You can learn a lot about filmmakers based on the movies they make. Let's begin this live blog with a movie that Chris Nolan made before he was famous. It's about an unemployed 30-something writer that stalks people. The Following from 1998.

Cobb?
Like the character from Inception?
So this movie is just a dream planted in someone's head.

Batman?! Oh, I see. The movie is autobiographical. It's about Leo DiCaprio planting in Christopher Nolan's mind that he should make a Batman movie.

If you haven't seen Following, it's about an amateur writer that stalks people to seek inspiration for his novel. He follows and ends up befriending a cat burglar. They join forces and one day break into the home of a woman he becomes infatuated with. He stalks her too and somehow gets into a relationship with her. She turns out to be the ex-girlfriend of a mobster. Twists and turns follow.
Made on 16mm film and on a budget of $6,000, Following is a home brewed thriller that showcased Nolan's talent and potential. The story is told non-linearly, which is a trademark of Nolan, but it's obvious he was just mimicking Tarantino. If there's a drawback to Following it's the obviousness that it was ripping off 90's indie films.
Up next: Memento

He can't create new memories but he can remember his wife was murdered and to solve the case. How accurate is this movie, medically speaking?

Memento is a great film. Hadn't seen it since college. It holds up incredibly well. The story is infamously told in reverse, but really if you think about it, it's told chronologically. Guy Pearce plays a guy with short term memory loss. He suffered a brain injury during an home invasion, which also resulted in the death of his wife, and he can't create new memories. The whole movie is about him searching for his wives killer, but it turns out that he found him a year earlier and this whole time was unknowningly working as a hit man for a corrupt cop. There's WAY more to it, but from a story perspective, that's about it. It's a worthy companion to that Se7en/Usual Suspects genre of movies.

Memento might still be my favourite Nolan movie. It's tough though. I switch a lot between Memento, The Dark Knight, and Inception.

Only Nolan could convince Disney and Warner Bros to work together... and Spielberg.

Welcome to Colorado Springs
Now that Nolan did his WWII movie, he needs to do a western.

If this movie took place in modern times it would be Eion Musk instead of Nikola Tesla.
