When people complain about the length of this movie, they always point to the China scene, but that section of the movie is great.

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Rachel is not in the mood for any of Alfred's bullshit.

If Christopher Nolan were more franchise minded, this would have been the ending of the movie. And it should have been! That whole boat shit is fucking stupid and Dark Knight Rises turned out to be garbage. End it here. The Joker won. Rachel is dead. Harvey is Two-Face. Perfect way to conclude the dark middle chapter. Pick up Part 3 with Two-Face. That would have been a great villain for Nolan. The guy that was supposed to save Gotham. The White Knight. Now he's the villain of the story. Meanwhile, the vigilante, the one living above the law, has to be hero of the story. It goes perfect with Nolan's true intend. Life isn't Black & White. It's grey. Instead we got this bullshit boat crap. Those people not blowing each other up doesn't prove anything. You can argue that people are inherently good but there's always gonna be bad seeds. How do you combat those bad seeds? A lot of times you can rely on the Jim Gordon's of the world. Jim Gordon is the real White Knight. Other times you need someone to get their hands dirty. That's where the Batman's come in. That's a greater theme than the whole Disney boat ending.

I don't wanna beat up on Dark Knight too much. It's 95% great. It's just that 5% that fucks everything up. That's why, ultimately, I gotta go with Tim Burton's Batman. That movie has its issues too but it's enjoyable from beginning to end and doesn't have any questionable themes. Even if fanboys get mad that Batman kills - so what? It works within context. Why WOULDN'T you want to kill The Joker, other than you wanna see him again in a sequel.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
