RANT #2 - STOP PUTTING WOMEN IN PRISON FOR SOMETHING STUPID!
Every year there's a female high school teacher going to prison for having sex with a male student. There has literally been 3 in the past month. Is anyone else getting tired of this? Can we, please, stop filling our prisons with stupidity? I hate to burst your bubble, but these teenage boys are NOT victims. There's nothing on this planet that's more horny than a teenage boy. These boys having sex with their teachers are enjoying every second of it and will be bragging about it till they die. Then they'll go to the after-life and continue to brag about it. Guys will put their dick's into anything that's attractive. It's in their DNA. Calling a guy a victim of consensual sex is ridiculous. So, please, stop wasting taxpayer money on putting these women in prison. And stop ruining these women's lives over something stupid. Who knows, maybe they're amazing teachers and that's more important than who's dick they're sucking after school. Oh, and you teenage boys need to shut the fuck up and stop bragging. You're the ones causing this mess. News flash: female students have sex with male teachers. But do you hear about that a lot? No. Why? Because girls do not brag. So learn your lesson and enjoy your pussy in silence.

I'm sure you guys in England don't worry about this stuff. Isn't 16 the legal age?

Yes. It happens over here relatively regularly too but I don't recall it ending with a jail sentence, not for women anyway. A high profile case quite recently resulted in a 30 year old male teacher getting sent down for being in a relationship with a 15 year old student and running away with her, or at least attempting to.

Rant #1 needs to be posted everywhere, and it definitely applies to more than just young people. There are many older people who don't have a clue about that stuff as well.

I'm sure you guys in England don't worry about this stuff. Isn't 16 the legal age? 16 is the age of consent in a lot of places, including a majority of U.S. states. It doesn't matter though, a teacher is considered to have a different set of responsibilities and has a different power dynamic with their students and as such the law covers them differently in much the same way a prison guard can be convicted for having consensual sex with a prisoner. And no, we shouldn't be punishing female teachers engaging in this behavior differently than male teachers just because of some ridiculous gender stereotypes about horny teenagers.

And no, we shouldn't be punishing female teachers engaging in this behavior differently than male teachers just because of some ridiculous gender stereotypes about horny teenagers. What stereotype? It's the truth. In none of these cases has a guy EVER been the victim and their lives have NEVER been ruined by it. Guys are wired differently than girls. It's a fact and we've lost sight of that. In America's quest to become "politically correct", we've forgotten about nature and biology.

In case you haven't heard, California is going to do away with plastic grocery bags come July 1. Several counties and cities have already implemented the ban which means you either bring a tote (or several) OR you can buy a brown paper bag for 10 cents each. I get that people are trying to make a cleaner environment and all that, but some initial thoughts:
1) Didn't we introduce the plastic bag so we wouldn't kill trees making the paper bag? 2) There are thousands, literally thousands of uses for the plastic bags that they use to bag groceries. That's why many people like me keep them in steady supply under our sinks. We can get rid of dog/cat mess. We can store things, carry things, line trash cans, create second-hand gloves, double bag with ice if you don't have a cooler, the list goes on. So in an effort to help cut down on plastic usage, we're banning the one plastic item that has the most uses. What?!? Well that just leads me to my next point... 3) Go look around the store. How many items are wrapped in plastic? Oh maybe 98% of them. Are we banning the plastic on those things? Are we banning the plastic that we stick our fruit in? The plastic that surrounds our cuts of meat and fish? No, that would be inconvenient. Instead we're banning the plastic that we DO reuse. All the other stuff goes straight to the landfill instantly. 4) I've read a couple times how bacteria-ridden tote bags can become. People keep produce or meat in there for too long, it gets moldy or rotten and people just keep using them without washing. Then they bring those same bags back into the grocery store for all of us to breathe in. Good times.
So yeah, if you're going to ban plastic then go all or nothing. Don't ban the things that people actually reuse you effing idiots.
What's hard for you guys to grasp is that I'm actually SCREAMING this at my computer while online it looks composed and calm. This is one of my crusades, to stand up to the anti-baggers. Plastic bags and pit bulls, those are my missions in life.

I do keep most of my grocery bags as well, unless they were ripped badly on the way home. Use them for cat waste, to carry miscellaneous things to and from work, to pack my wife's lunches now and again, and to line my small waste bins in the bathrooms.

A major supermarket in the UK did away with plastic bags once, back in around 2008/9. Suffice to say, it lasted around 2 months before they were back and normal business was resumed.

I'm less than surprised something ridiculous like that is happening in California. I heard rumbling about the same thing, but I doubt KS will ever be so 'progressive'. The day I don't have plastic grocery bags is the day I start mailing cat turds to whoever was behind such ridiculousness.
I'm not an old man, but can I rant and say how ridiculous I find HAES and the whole tumblerina 'fat acceptance' movement? (lol movement). Fat acceptance has turned to skinny shaming and fat logic makes me want to slap someone. No, your body isn't enormous because of your genes or some sort of condition, it's because you prefer to eat tasty garbage and don't work out. I have gained weight recently and I can't point my sausage fingers at anyone but myself for the way my body looks. I have always been incredibly out of shape (even when I was thin) and now that I weigh more I wouldn't dare kid myself that I could be healthy without exercise and (gasp!) weight loss. Sure, there are fat people who are in decent shape, but 'healthy at every size' is NOT reasonable.

I have pretty pointed opinions on the subject. Much of that is because a couple years ago I worked with a guy who was 24 and over 400 lbs. Super nice guy, funny and great to be around. He had sleep apnea which we knew about because he would fall asleep at his desk. When he would use the restroom it was like someone was beating him with a bat behind the stall. I came to work one Monday to hear that he had died of a heart attack over the weekend. At 24. All of those things were related to his weight. And there are people out there who would look him in the eye and tell him ‘don’t worry about how you look, you’re perfectly fine. You’re a great person regardless, don’t let your weight define you.’ That advice kills people. People die because of it. If asked I might say to someone ‘eh, you might have gained a few. Maybe put down the Dr. Pepper and go walk for 30 minutes when you get home.’ At worst my advice might hurt someone’s feelings. The ‘you look great no matter your weight’ line kills people. I know I know, my friend was 400 lbs. and there's a difference between obesity and morbid obesity but the idea in general is the same.
What we as a society need to stop doing is talking out of both sides of our mouths. On the one hand we say ‘we have an obesity epidemic’ and try to ban soft drinks, demonize fast food and press everyone to go vegan. On the other hand we tell those same people ‘you’re beautiful no matter how you look. Go ahead, gain 80 lbs. and walk around in a bikini, we support you!’ Then when those same people can’t find a boyfriend/girlfriend, can’t get a job and begin suffering from depression and diabetes we blame everybody else BUT the person who’s overweight. ‘They have a thyroid problem’ or some nonsense. We’re very afraid to shame anybody nowadays and it’s not for the best. I’m not saying we should stand on the streets and throw rocks at fat people but we shouldn’t tell them that being fat is good let alone healthy. I’m more than happy to tell people close to me (not just anybody) when they’ve noticeably gained weight and I have done just that on a number of occasions. I might look like a jerk but I’m trying to prevent them from dying. Just like my co-worker. Sue me.

Some days I feel like it's only a matter of time before it's a crime to hurt someone's feelings.

It's funny we're discussing cat turds and how ridiculous California can be. Then again they are the ones that have outlawed landlords requiring cats be declawed to live in an apartment. For that matter, declawing in general is outlawed entirely in most of CA's major cities.
I suppose some may find that ridiculous as well, but it's something that has driven me nuts whenever I have to try to find a new apartment.

I'm not a cat person... but why would you do that to a cat? It sounds like a traumatic procedure.

Most people do it for convenience (or the perception of such). Being able to avoid being scratched and having scratched furniture, and no need to take the time to train them or clip their nails. That sounds good and all, but those who have the procedure done on their cats don't know better. It can change their personality and behavior, leading to a more aggressive demeanor and biting. It can also lead to them doing their business outside of their litter box, which most cats do if something is wrong (illness/discomfort/pain). Ironically, that can cause even more damage to your home, which is the whole reason some landlords require it.
Then there's always the possibility the surgery can backfire, leading to improper growth (think an ingrown toe nail, but worse) and infection.
It's a messed up procedure. They're essentially amputating the front of their paws. Like cutting off your fingertips at the first knuckle.

Weird. The cat my family had when I was a kid was declawed and I never thought anything of it. Didn't realize it was some kind of controversial practice at all.
