news.yahoo.com/5-old-boy-days-away-172740628.htmlI'm at the point where I'm ready to say 'Fuck you' to just about anybody who owns a pitbull. Enough is enough. We're focused on guns and gun deaths and gun violence but what about this? Every day you can find a new article about someone being mauled, attacked, killed by a pitbull or packs of pitbulls. Why do people own them? Why would you ever buy one? This is a breed of dog that accounts for a huge majority of dog attacks. Was the pet store out of golden retrievers? Labradors? Cocker spaniels? Jack Russells? You just had to get a pitbull, a dog bred to highlight aggressive characteristics? I've heard of select districts in the US that have tried to ban pits and mastiffs. Good. Not only that but we should make it illegal to breed them. I won't be cold-hearted enough to say that they should be destroyed however I would happily sign a bill that says that it's illegal to breed them for any reason. In 10 years pitbulls would thankfully be a distant memory. In a way pitbull owners are like drunk drivers. They say 'no, it's fine, everything is under control' then when shit goes down somebody else has to pay the price, many times with their lives. There are hundreds of breeds of dog, pick another one you in-bred assholes. 'But Doomsday, it's not their fault, it's the owners.' Oh really? So I guess every daschund, dalmation, chow and King Charles owner is fantastic. Only pitbull owners are terrible, is that what you're saying? We all know that's bullshit so it has to have something to do with the breed. That kid would almost surely be alive today if the owners of those dogs picked literally any other breed. It's 2015, it's time to get pitbulls out of circulation.

People want them because they're some sort of status symbol - and yes it is a dog that the owner has to devote a lot of time and training to - under the right circumstances they can be a good pet. People just don't have enough time or pay enough attention to them. Any breed can bite - bites from bigger breeds are usually more devastating, but anything can kill you - last year someone died after being bitten by a squirrel. It bit an artery

That's true that anything can kill you but odds of being killed or bitten by a pitbull are much, much, much, much, much, much, much higher. Just buy another dog and you won't have to worry about it. When I'm king I'm banning the breeding of pitbulls. I won't kill them straight out but it will be illegal to breed them for any reason. In a decade we won't have much to worry about on the pitbull front anymore.

German Shepherds can be pretty vicious too. Dobermans? St Bernards? Huskys? Rottweilers? All potential killers if not handled properly
Ever watch Pit Boss? www.animalplanet.com/tv-shows/pit-boss/ If a little person can successfully own and handle pitbulls, I think other responsible owners can do it safely. Perhaps the owners need training and a license too to show they can handle it correctly

It's not so much whether they're handled properly or if they have good owners. I'm sure there are plenty of golden retrievers who have terrible, neglectful and abusive owners but you never heard of them busting through fences or roaming in packs mauling women walking to work or children playing in their own yards. Pitbulls specifically were bred to be aggressive, to lock their jaws and injure/kill. We don't need that in society especially when there are dozens of other dog breeds that you can choose from.

California believes that the porn industry isn't trying hard enough to prevent blood born pathogens from entering the body so they are pushing for mandatory condoms and eyewear for all performers.
I mentioned this news story in a safety briefing last week. The following day our topic we had to discuss was eyewear protection. It did make the meeting more entertaining and difficult to hold a straight face while reading some of the statistics.

The Silent Majority
In 1968, Richard Nixon became President by appealing to the silent majority. Back then it meant the conservatives who were tired of the progressive movement. I don't know if that's still true today - or if it EVER was true. As I head into the 4th Presidential election of my voting life, one thing has changed. I'm not "angry" anymore. I've never been an extreme liberal, but I have joined forces with that group for the greater good. Now... I can't be bothered. I'm a proud centrist. I ain't signing any petitions. I ain't protesting anything. I ain't getting into arguments on social media. All I'm doing is going to a voting booth in November. Why? Because that's all that matters. Voting and putting the right people in power is the only way to accomplish change - positive change. So in essence, I've become part of the silent majority. I'm not going to Bernie Sanders rallies. I'm not wearing a Hillary Clinton t-shirt. I'm just voting. So that has made me wonder: what the fuck IS the silent majority? I can't imagine it representing one specific group. It wouldn't surprise me if "undecided voters" are part of the silent majority. Right now, if I'm not mistaken, like 20% of registered voters are undecided. I don't know how that's possible in an election where the other candidate is Donald Trump, but that's not the point. 20% of people can make a difference. Right now, Clinton and Trump are almost tied. These 20% of undecided voters are gonna choose our next President. So, again, who the fuck are these people? My guess is they're just centrists like me, BUT they'll vote based on either their interest or their conscience. If you're a rich person or a racist or both, Donald Trump may get your vote. If you vote with your conscience, Hillary may get your vote. I think that's what ultimately decides elections. It's a battle between personal benefits and doing the right thing. Who wins comes down to the social climate. Sometimes, we desperately need progressive change. Other times, we're doing fine and are just looking for a good deal. That statement may anger some people because we always need progressive change, but you have to remember to pick your battles. During the Great Depression, people weren't gonna focus on civil rights. During the civil rights movement, people weren't gonna focus on gay rights. Unfortunately, that's how it is. There's a time and place for everything. So, my guess is, the silent majority isn't a political ideology. It's just a mirror of the social climate. If Donald Trump becomes President, we have to ask ourselves, what the fuck happened. Clearly, people weren't voting with their conscience. What did Trump offer the silent majority? Immigration reform? Trade embargo? Lower taxes? Gun control? Nuclear annihilation? Or is it just a simple "fuck you" to the progressive movement? That can work both ways. Hillary Clinton can be a "fuck you" to the Trump crowd. Really, there's no way to know right now what the social climate is because there's too much noise on both sides. And the defining trait of the silent majority is... silence. So until November, we won't know what people really think - or feel. It's one of those elections.

I had a thought while reading your paragraph then you answered your own question which I agree with; the silent majority is a mirror of the social climate. I'm right there with you in that I'm not an angry twenty-something who screams at rallies and hangs posters of politicians above my bed but I never really was that person. I've always had my opinions but I never thought to wave them around like a flag. In fact even in college all the people who cried when Kerry wasn't elected seemed pretty pathetic to me. Now that I'm in my 30s and still see people my age typing paragraphs about Hillary Clinton and how Trump is literally going to blow up the earth makes me want to hit someone. Like you said, just vote. Also of note, I love how passionate the young people are about politics yet they're the ones who hardly vote in the first place. If they came out in 2010 and 2014 the way they did to polish Obama's knob in 2008 and 2012 we wouldn't have a Republican Congress right now.
As for Trump. I think I can speak to this seeing as how I was raised in a pretty affluent, white conservative area and know the mindset. Most, I'll say most conservatives/Republicans despise Trump. They don't like him, they think he's a buffoon, they think he's going to cost them an election that has been handed to Republicans on a silver platter and they're right to be frustrated. They just hate Clinton more than Trump just like liberals don't like Clinton but they'll take her over Trump. But Trump isn't a product of a 'huge, racist, xenophobic' section of our society. You can spin it that way if you choose but Trump is a product of the past few years of (mostly white) people being told that everything bad in society is their fault, they all have 'white privilege' i.e. they didn't earn anything they have and it was all handed to them, they're racist even at an unconscious level that they don't realize, and that any opinion they have is tainted by their whiteness. 'You're white so you can't comment on immigration.' 'You're white so you can't say anything about racial tensions, you just can't relate.' Compounding that is constant media coverage of students on college campuses and even high schools nationwide saying how 'racist' the colleges are and need the 'safe spaces' and 'mandatory diversity seminars' and a certain percentage of the faculty and student body being minorities. Finally, add the Black Lives Matter movement that has helped draw racial lines even deeper than they were already regardless of the original intent. So with your average working class white person seeing all that on an almost daily basis they've collectively gone 'fuck it, I'm done. I'm tired of being told I'm a bad person because of my race (which is somehow not racist), I'm tired of being told I don't deserve what I have and haven't worked hard for what I've earned, I'm tired of being told that I'm a bigot for having an opinion on just about anything and I want someone who's going to change that.' So here comes Donald Trump, a household name with a ton of money (meaning he won't be tied to lobbyists, theoretically) and says he's going to take a hatchet to all of this. He won't but that's what he says he'll do. That's appealing to all these people who are tired of being told that we live in this hugely racist society when most Americans are anything but racist.
At least that's where I think Trump-ism has come from and I think I'm pretty dead on. Are there some racists who back him? Sure, but 98% of them aren't motivated by racism, they're motivated by a sense of wanting to change things that they think are taking us on a downward spiral. Not saying I agree with all of it, just merely my observation.

Yeah, that's what I meant by a "fuck you" vote. The women's liberation movement went through a similar thing in the 1970's. Radical feminists attacked housewives and that cost them elections and laws. Roe v Wade is, really, the only major accomplishment by feminists of that era because it was supported by men as well. Don't let Christian fundamentalists fool you, men love abortion rights as much, if not more, than women. Moral of the story is, don't turn politics into a pissing contest. Most functional adults are centrists. They can hear both sides and vote on what they feel is best for the country at the moment. But if you attack people, you're gonna very quickly force centrists to choose the other side. Many of those working class white people probably do hate Donald Trump but will vote for him as a middle finger to the haters. Just like housewives in the 70's voted against the greater good cause radical feminists called them traitors to their gender.

They do in 100 degree weather. How can you be hot when you look so cool? I don't know why, but I've never had a problem when it comes to hot weather and my legs. Maybe my legs don't sweat as much as most people's, or maybe something is wrong with my sweat glands down there. Hmm... or maybe my jeans are loose enough to keep them well ventilated? I don't know, but I wear them year-round without much issue. Then again I ride with full protective gear on, regardless of the temperature, so maybe I've just gotten used to it.

Fuck La Z Boy and Synchrony Financial. I've been dealing with these idiots since January and they still can't get their shit figured out.
January 8 - I buy the furniture I want.
January 15 - The furniture I want doesn't exist so I have to come in and buy something else.
February something - 4/7 of the furniture I order arrive. More was supposed to come, but it was damaged in transit and I didn't get notification until the delivery drivers called to say they were on their way.
A couple weeks later - I'm up to 5 pieces of furniture I ordered. I'm still missing my coffee table. They can't say how long it's going to be so I ask to cancel the coffee table and return the end table since I won't have anything else to match it. After half an hour on the phone I convince them to cancel the table, and they will refund the end table when they pick it up and deliver my couch.
Another couple weeks later - Couch finally arrives. All is well until I notice that the corner of my rug is coming apart. I call the store and they ask for documentation of the damage and they'll send it off to get another opinion and get back to me.
Weeks go by. I hear nothing. I call, and they can't tell me anything.
More weeks go by. I call and dispute the charge with my credit card company because I didn't sign up to buy scratch and dent garbage.
I call the store again and they tell me that they will generously waive the 30% restocking fee if I want to pick out another rug. I don't want another rug that's going to start falling apart. I want a refund. If I wanted defective, disposable furniture and shitty rugs I'd have gone to Ikea and spent half the price.
BofA sides with me in the dispute and refunds my deposit. It's not the full amount of the rug, but it's a start. I dump the rug in the unfinished area of the basement and wait for La Z Boy to schedule pickup of the rug. Again, I hear nothing.
Months later I get a notice saying that I owe a balance to the store. I call the store and they can't tell me what balance I owe. A couple days later I notice a charge for $940 on the account I financed my balance with. I didn't authorize a charge, so I dispute it.
A month later the dispute is resolved in my favor. The benefit of 0% APR is not worth the headache, so I pay the balance and close the account. I also notice that my card was refunded the $940 twice. At this point I'm not about to tell them to charge my account anything else because neither La Z Boy or Synchrony have done anything to prove that I could easily trust them to charge me once and everyone be made whole.
Today, less than a week after closing my account I get a letter from La Z Boy telling me that I owe the $940. I understand that I do owe it, but the letter also claims that they have previously contacted me and if I don't pay in a few days it's going to go into collections. That's some bullshit right there. If they reached out to me the must have been using smoke signals because I never got any messages or mail about it.
I tried to make this as short as possible, but with so much headache it's hard to condense the story. Please share your nightmare customer service stories and make me feel better!
