The cat my family has now has his claws intact and so far, knock on wood, scratching hasn't been an issue. He DOES, however, like to nip at toes and fingers sometimes, but it's playful and he's never broken skin doing it.

I didn't realize how traumatizing declawing could be until it was too late. My first cat went from sweet but derpy to crazy violent attack mode without any sort of trigger. I'd be cuddling with him then the next thing I know he would bite down and latch onto my arm. Looking back on it now I can easily say that I deserved what I got for declawing him. I have the scars to prove just how badly declawing can effect some kitties. We were able to find a new home for the cat and I have since adopted Pirate Jim and Lady. They're both special needs cats (he has 1 eye and she was pretty abused when she was found [the vet removed a BB from her neck and belly and she also lacks a tail... just sort of has a little corkscrew with some puff on it]), but both have all 4 claws. Since MM has been re-homed our home has been a lot less tense now that we don't have to be afraid of the cats. It's kind of weird to think about how much less intimidating a cat is with all its claws than one that had been declawed.
So basically what I'm trying to say is that some cats are well adjusted after a declaw and others turn into raging assbags. Now that I know more about the process I wouldn't ever do it again to another cat.
I feel like a jerk for subjecting a cat to that sort of treatment. If I had done some research I would have never done it. That kind of thing weighs heavy on my conscience and I still feel like garbage about it to this day.

I've declawed all my cats. They're fine. It's also extremely common.

It makes sense to declaw a cat when you have young children. They don't respond well to a toddler being a toddler in my experience. I've never seen repeat incidents outside the first time with dogs.

RANT #3 - LEAVE BILL COSBY ALONE
Can the VERY hypocritical Hollywood leave Bill Cosby alone? You guys give Oscars to Roman Polanski and put Mike Tyson in Hangover movies. So calm the fuck down and continue business as usual. There's no need to cancel stand-up specials, development deals and reruns of his old work. In 6 months, people will move on and you'll look ridiculous going back to the Cosby money train. And people of the Internet, once again, take a chill pill. For starters, these allegations - yes, allegations - happened over 30 years ago. Legally speaking, the time has past. Nothing is gonna happen. It's too late. So you're bitching for the sake of bitching. Secondly, the man is 77-years-old and NOT in the best of health. He'll die soon. So again, you're wasting your energy. If you hate him that much, he'll be gone soon. So... relax. And finally, some of these allegations were settled out of court many years ago. So these 14+ women accusing him of stuff, including model Janice Dickinson who made Sylvester Stallone believe she was carrying his baby back in the 1990's, are just looking for a payday. So don't believe the hype. Whenever there's rich people involved, especially in Cosby's level, there's always gonna be exaggerations and lies just to get some cash. Look at Tiger Woods. Look how many women popped out of nowhere just to feed their bank account. If Bill Cosby raped any women, and he probably did, that was already taken care of many years ago. Cosby even has a former mistress and love-child he had to settle things with a few years back. So what we're seeing now is just the media putting the spotlight on people trying to make some extra cash for the holidays.

He's a scumbag for sure as are most people in Hollywood but I won't entirely disagree with you. And this is stuff we've known for 2 decades, it's nothing new.

RANT #4 - FERGUSON IS ANOTHER REMINDER OF HOW EXTREMIST AMERICA HAS GOTTENRemember in August when there was wild allegations that Darren Wilson shot and killed Michael Brown because of self-defense? The "official" story was that Darren Wilson was beat to near unconsciousness by Michael Brown. Well... here's a photo of Darren Wilson on the day of the incident: Now, look, I understand that cops need to protect each other. They do a thankless job. Let's not kid ourselves. But at some point you need to draw the line. There was no need for the Ferguson police to go through such extremes to protect this guy. Even if they're super racist and are secretly glad of what Wilson did - again - you have to draw the line somewhere. This dude should have been in jail 100 days ago. And now for the other side of the coin. Going into hysterics on social media was probably not the correct strategy because it turns a murder case into a pissing contest. What we saw last night - Wilson officially not being charged with anything - will go down as the most ridiculous thing of 2014. And it happened because the grand jury wasn't thinking of murder. They were thinking of "winning." People on the Internet have spent the last 100 days attacking everything from the police to the government to white people in general. Two extremes are never gonna lead to anything good.

yeah no neck brace or arm in a sling? No doubt the kid attacked him - but he overreacted and killed him while he was several feet from the vehicle where he was attacked

Flashback to Watts Riots 1965 (and actually you can go back at least as far as 1829 for race riots in America - although that one was whites against blacks ) Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. - George Santayana

Flashback to Watts Riots 1965 (and actually you can go back at least as far as 1829 for race riots in America. True. But I was referring to the technological age. In the Rodney King case there was actual videotape footage of cops beating him up, and yet, they were still set free. It's this level of "blind eye" that makes people furious and want to set a city on fire.

Oh yea, the 1960's BT (before Technology) Yeah we didn't see anything like the King beating on TV (Oh wait, TV is Technology - I meant smoke signals)

That's what I don't understand in this whole situation, it has just turned into a political issue with 'he was shot because he was black' on one side and 'the cop was totally within his rights' on the other side. I wasn't there, nobody commenting in my facebook feed was there, no reporters were there, nobody knows EXACTLY what happened. There are several conflicting reports as to what happened and who instigated the entire situation but suddenly everyone is an expert as to what really went down that day.

Not to mention some witness statements were recanted.
Yeah only the three of them were actually there from beginning to end - but it still sounds hinky either way - somewhere in the middle is the truth.Things should have turned out differently that day but hindsight is 20/20

Ultimately people are using this issue (as they use any issue) to further their own political agendas. It's a shame that someone died in these very questionable circumstances however BOTH sides are doing nothing now but drawing the lines of division deeper.

That depends on the conversation. If it's about racial injustice and police brutality then that's certainly a conversation....we just aren't sure if that completely applies to this since everything surrounding the Michael Brown story is conjecture. It's a sad state of affairs but to label it one thing or the other, either 'racism!' or 'Wilson is a great man!' is irresponsible.

Don't worry, Doomsday. Darren Wilson just gave an exclusive interview to ABC News. You'll hear his side of the story.
