The Newsom recall just hit the 1.5 million signature threshold, there will be an election later this year. Now Newsom is talking about easing lockdown, trying to get people back to school part-time, just to take some of the tension off. He'll probably survive any recall election baring some disaster but still, not the place you really want to be at the moment.

Just what California needs in the middle of a pandemic, a distracting and chaotic recall election. I'm sure that's a smart and productive thing to be doing.

Newsom's term is up next year. If people want change, vote for it then. The whole recall process we have is really stupid. I mean yeah it gave us Arnold as governor. But it also gave us Arnold as governor.

If that one seat is Tom McClintock, then this is a huge victory for California and thus the world.
(I know that it isn't but I can dream)

California's population falls in first-ever yearly decline www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57033417California's population fell between 2020 and 2021 in the first yearly decline ever reported since officials began counting the figure. On Friday the state's Finance Department said the population now stands at just below 39.5 million residents, - a drop of 182,000. The reasons are varied but involve the pause on migration due to the pandemic, officials say. It comes after the once-in-a-decade US census recorded slowing state growth.

Didn't one of these 'lists' also name New Jersey as the best state to live?

At most though Elder would be governor for a year until 2022 when he'd go up against a presumably competitive Democrat. For this recall the Democrats misjudged how sick and tired people are of Newsom and the they failed to provide a viable alternative which could turn out to be a mistake. Now it's basically Newsom vs. a bunch of Republicans who are going to hit him any way they can. Naturally there are a lot of Republicans in the boonies who are fired up but there are also a lot of moderate Democrats who are really pissed about the businesses and schools being completely shut down for the past year not to mention the ever worsening homeless problem, the housing problem and everything else that's been plaguing California for a while. There are a lot of people on both sides of the aisle who just want something to change.

They're estimating it will hit $6 by the end of the year throughout much of southern California.

A) there are a few stations around the country tht have artificially jacked prices that always get circulated. They aren't representative of prices, and more affordable options are usually a couple blocks away.
B) the doofus righties that think that sticker is clever are morons. But so is the general voting public, and i fear that shit will work in what it's trying to convince. Anyone with basic understanding of economics knows there little to nothing a president can do to control inflation that is gripping not just our countries but others.
The fed needs to raise rates asap, but even incentive tax cuts to the supply chain aren't going to bring inflation down anytime soon. Righties will say drill, keystone, etc. We are still a net exporter of oil, and OPEC sets the price.
Jesus that sticker is fucking stupid.

Gas station on my way home last night was $5.59. I'm wondering if people will start doing WFH again solely because of gas prices. I'd be down.

I worked for Fry's for 14 years up until 2013, started in sales and ended up managing a few stores around Southern California before I left. Lots of good and bad memories about that place. Scanned that video and he clearly has no idea regarding the decline of Fry's. Fry's started losing $$$ around 2008 when the VP of Marketing, Omar Siddiqui, was embezzling millions of dollars to feed his online poker habit. The IRS raided the home offices in San Jose and arrested him. He became known as "Sneaky Siddiqui". Soon after, Fry's faced a class action lawsuit for unpaid overtime that went back several years. Most of the sales team were on commission only, and it wasn't uncommon to work 12 hour days in the early 2000's. This ended up being a very costly settlement. Soon after, Dave Fry, who managed the financials of the company, gave out the order to hold payments to vendors until all their product sold, sometimes not paying the vendors at all, or forcing vendors to fund promotions if they ever wanted to get paid on goods Fry's had an outstanding balance on. At first, most vendors played ball due to Fry's reach into the gaming and IT customer base, but as online competition began gaining steam around 2010, vendors considered Fry's less of an asset and eventually more of a financial burden. Fry's began to lose credit from it's vendors one by one, which eventually caused the empty shelves and its inevitable collapse. This is the real story of what happened to Fry's.
