Isn't Fast Five the one that kicked off the current iteration of the franchise and its success?

Isn't Fast Five the one that kicked off the current iteration of the franchise and its success? 7 is the culmination of all that insane unpredictable success of the restart. A true high water mark - and this series will be around for the rest of our adult lives. In one way or another (various tv shows will happen). And it remains the most diverse pieces of major media that anyone can really point to with long term success.

It's been rumored as a Criterion release for a long time, likely waiting on this restoration to get finished.

The 70s tournament reminded me that I should bring this back.

Moonlight - Still feels seminal. As a piece of Queer cinema, Black cinema, as a work of filmmaking writ large.
Elle - Not exactly a movie that reflects the specifics of a MeToo movement, but a bold reckoning with sexual violence against women.
Deadpool - It sucks but it made the R-rated superhero film a box-office hit and helped pave the way for Logan. Also marks a moment where the genre becomes more openly irreverent.
Your Name - Just seems like a movie that will (and already has) spawned a very dedicated fanbase who'll cite it as an influence in their own art.
La La Land - Theater kids need something to watch.

The Witch Moonlight The Lobster Zootopia Deadpool Forgot about The Witch given it's sometime listed as 2015. That should definitely be on there. New list: Moonlight Elle Deadpool The Witch Your Name

The Witch is listed as 2015 though. But if we're counting it, I'll definitely add it to my list if we're moving forward with that.

Ghostbusters (2016) — Too important to outrage culture.
Jungle Book — Paved way for the Volume.
The VVitch — I guess it introduced a new voice to cinema.
Deadpool — Perhaps?
Arrival — Meh?

The Witch Moonlight The Lobster Zootopia Deadpool Zootopia? Eh, list was a first draft. Seems like real product of the time though, feels like it will age... interestingly. The Witch is listed as 2015 though. But if we're counting it, I'll definitely add it to my list if we're moving forward with that. It played some festivals in 2015, was not given a real domestic release until February 2016

Eh, list was a first draft. Seems like real product of the time though, feels like it will age... interestingly. Problem with Zootopia is that its been completely overshadowed by Moana in cultural relevancy.

Yeah, if a Disney movie makes the 2016 group, I feel it should be Moana.

I don't see an argument for Moana beyond it's popular. You already have Frozen for 2013, we don't need this too.

The nice guys is the ultimate in buddy cop flicks though. Must be represented.
There is an argument for terrifier just because it's a new franchise horror villain but beyond that it's not really breaking new ground.

I don't see an argument for Moana beyond it's popular. You already have Frozen for 2013, we don't need this too. We’re evaluating “important movies.” What has Zootopia impacted? Where is its influence? Bear in mind, it hasn’t even been a decade yet. Maybe in time it will. But right now? Nah. Moana at least has Lin-Manuel Miranda who continues to prove the naysayers wrong. Moana showed that Hamilton was more than just a fad. Miranda and his corny rap-musical-hybrid songs have staying power. Would Terrifier be important for horror? There is an argument for terrifier just because it's a new franchise horror villain but beyond that it's not really breaking new ground. I thought about it, but I’m not sure. I feel like Terrifier 2 is the more notable one. The fact that had a successful theatrical run is quite a feat. But sure, Terrifier 1 paved the way.
