I'm currently reading this book called Tales From Development Hell -- fascinating read, by the way -- and one of the chapters covered the years-long process of finally getting KOTCS made. A lot of people have said how there was a Frank Darabont script that Spielberg and Ford loved, but Lucas rejected. Well, according to this book, Darabont's script (Indiana Jones and the Red Scare) was actually not all that different from what we got. It contained the same basic overall story and a lot of the same scenes (the opening was pretty much the same), but David Koepp just reworked it slightly to where Lucas finally signed off.
So, as long as Koepp can either come up with a solid story or be given one to work with, I have no problem with him writing the fifth.

Agreed, Koepp is a capable screenwriter and he does have a good resume on that front: Jurassic Park, Carlito's Way, Spider-Man. Yeah, he has some meh ones as well, but to me with Lucas out of the picture here I think we can have some optimism that this will be a major step up from Crystal Skull.

I think that one huge critic video nailed it, the main problem being everyone involved being OK with mediocrity and a family film. Indy use to shoot people and dark shit happened; Crystal Skull was a goofy gag-fest.

Strange, you mention it, I look it up on youtube and notice that it was published exactly 2 years ago today. Anyways, the first thing I noticed about KotCS is that it's so watered down. He (sort of) kills one person in the whole movie when he kills several people in each other movie. It's just one example of many but it's a solid one.

I was kinda ok with the overall Plot of the Movie. The Crystal Skull and Aliens were interesting but f think on it. In the 50 time frame aliens was a big thing. Shia being Indys Son was greatest crime.

I think Disney should request that Spielberg only Produce the movie. I would love an Indiana Jones movie if lets say someone like a Joss Whedon or a Jon Favrou could direct and give us a really fun movie.

One thing they should really do this time is forget the CGI overload and actually go on location. Real exotic locations is essential for Indy films - have your sets, but don't just phone the whole thing in this time.

For the first time, Spielberg is getting a producer credit for Indiana Jones and he insisted on George Lucas tagging along.

That means there's still plenty of time for Lucas to fuck the whole thing up! From what Spielberg said, Lucas and him will be executive producers and Kathleen Kennedy (with Frank Marshall, I guess) are the actual producers. So it's possible that Lucas will attend a meeting or two and that's it. I don't think Disney wants Lucas around and Lucas definitely knows that. You should watch the Charlie Rose interview from December. Disney and Lucas don't really have a relationship. I think they're just being accommodating to Spielberg cause Kennedy and him have a 35+ year relationship.
