Blade is not a movie that needs to be analyzed this closely. It's a movie about a cool dude stabbing vampires while wearing sunglasses and a sick leather jacket, that delivers on everything that description implies and nothing more. Also, this approach of looking at this as some kind of entry in the history of comic book movies is misguided. This isn't really a Marvel movie and isn't a superhero movie any more than Road to Perdition or something. Well, it IS the first Marvel Production. That company, or subsidiary, is now reduced to just the X-Men but it is what started the modern superhero genre. Whether you want to give the credit to Blade, X-Men or Spider-Man is ultimately irrelevant cause they're all produced by Avi Arad.

Kick-Ass > Deadpool > Kick-Ass 2 Jim Carrey alone makes Kick-Ass 2 better.

As much as I adore John Hughes, he is overrated. Ferris Bueller is the only genuine top 10 teen movie he made. I know you guys hate Ferris Bueller cause you're comedy haters, but it is an amazing movie. Sixteen Candles. Breakfast Club. They're good, but not great. Weird Science is a very silly movie. It's fun, but silly.
Then you have his competitors, who were doing some great stuff. Fast Times, I think, is still the gold standard of teen movies. Footloose is a fucking great movie. Revenge of the Nerds is hilarious. There's a lot of gems from that era. If you go further back, there's American Graffiti. People don't think of it as a teen movie, but it is. That one is great too.

I don't care what Doomsday says. Grudge Match is a good movie. I've seen it like 4 or 5 times. It's a lot of fun.

In the past, I may have been too harsh on the 1976 King Kong. There's a lot to like. But having King Kong walk like a human still pisses me off. It ruins the whole illusion. You're just watching Rick Baker in a monkey suit.

Call me crazy, but John Carpenter's The Thing is nothing more than a well-shot body horror movie. Then again, gross-out/body horror isn't a sub-genre I'm particularly into to begin with.

The difference being, I actually cared about the characters in Alien, plus that movie didn't lose a lot of its impact and suspense after the first half hour.

The various creature effects in the second half of The Thing are awesome and highly creative. Also I think the characters work pretty well. They're simplistic blue collar types, but...so are the characters in Alien. I think the performances in both make them work.

Alien and The Thing are just really, really entertaining movies. Well-crafted and re-watchable as hell.

I'm not knocking the creature effects at all -- in fact, they're one of the best parts of the movie. For me, it just comes down to a pretty significant lack of investment in the story on my part. The first half hour was honestly pretty great and gave me hope...but I found that after we see the creature transform for the first time, a lot of the novelty was lost.

I can't decide if Silverado is a good or bad movie. It looks great. It sounds great. Good actors are in it. But the screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan (Star Wars) is over-indulgent. There's like 3 or 4 plots going on at the same time. There's no lead character or even a true ensemble. It's as if Kasdan had various ideas for a western and made it into one movie.
I'm actually thinking a bit about The Empire Strikes Back. But that movie works cause Luke and Han/Leia were split up. It's just two stories going on at the same time.
Once you get into 3 or 4 it gets confusing and difficult to care about any one particular character.

Balls of Fury is one of the top 5 comedies since 2000. It's great.
Walk Hard is up there too.
