Chicago is good. Maybe great. On a musical kick, are we? Anyway, yeah. It's good. With some great musical numbers.

Saw the Nostalgia Critic review. That was enough for me. Don't let that be the final word, and I say that as someone who doesn't like Moulin Rouge.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll give it a watch, then. Lindsay Ellis has basically said that her take in the video of it being a guilty pleasure was what Doug told her to say and not at all reflective of how she actually feels about the movie. Not to say that makes the movie great but he definitely slants things in an unfair way. I remember noticing his review of Temple of Doom being a very poor appraisal of the actual movie.

There's definitely a bias that comes through in his videos whenever he reviews something with another person -- yeah, his Temple of Doom one isn't one of his best -- which is why those First Viewings videos he's been doing the past year and a half or so I feel are actually more honest representations of his opinions without the heightened quality they take on with the NC character. That said, his Moulin Rouge review is still one of his best. But I have disagreed with him quite a bit in the past, so we'll see.

Six Days Seven Nights, the 1998 Harrison Ford/Anne Heche movie, would be a Netflix film these days. Except it’d be cheaper, shot on shitty digital cameras and lack charm and sense-of-humor. Or worse. It would be a broad Adam Sandler style comedy.

Moulin Rouge sucks.
Okay, well, maybe not "sucks", cause that would imply I had a particularly strong reaction to it. But apart from my mouth hanging slightly agape from the sheer madness of the editing, camera angles and severe overacting -- sort of like Cats, there were times in this movie where I thought I was having a bad acid trip -- I was largely unmoved by this movie. Nothing of any great interest or significance happens in it.

The Abyss is...kind of mediocre. It’s certainly well-made, though. The first half of the movie has good atmosphere and establishes a claustrophobic feeling that works. But the pace is a bit sluggish (I watched the theatrical cut, not the Extended) and the characters aren’t very compelling. They’re pretty cookie-cutter and reestablishes my opinion that James Cameron is a better director than a writer. And then when it transitions into the more heavy science fiction elements, what it has to say doesn’t seem all that profound. It’s a movie that’s made up of interesting things, but those things never really fully come together.
A mild thumbs down, to quote Siskel and Ebert.

The extended cut is where it's at. Didn't know this was a thing. Gives the Aliens more characterization, also adds a really cool effect. Was added digitally post T2 when Cameron had the ability. Like T2, the CGI in the Extended Cut holds up better than 90% of everything else in 90s.

Most underappreciated Rocky music The training montage from Rocky II? Nah, bro. It's the best one. Rocky II is an inferior movie but it has the best montage, the best Rocky running up the steps and the best boxing match. Basically, it has the best 3rd act of all the Rocky movies.
