He was curious about whether it was better than Ryan Reynolds' remake.

Josie and the Pussycats (2001)One of SnoBorderZero’s spank bank favorites, Josie and the Pussycats finds the trio going up against an evil record label that’s using their music as subliminal messages to make teenagers waste money on junk. The film is a bit on the nose but it’s goofy and fun and has a pretty decent soundtrack. It’s certainly cheaper than spending $20 on Scoob.

Idiocracy (2006)
Idiocracy is a comedy that's achieved cult status over the years since its release as an almost eerily prescient movie, given our current President and political climate, etc. I actually first saw this movie roughly a decade ago in a Politics class I took in college, and honestly wasn't all that crazy about it back then. But I figured given its new cult status and the state of our politics now, it was time for a re-watch. Well...my thoughts on this movie are still exactly the same. I can see what Mike Judge is going for here in terms of the commentary he weaves into the comedy, and to that degree, he's successful in getting his point across. The problem, though, is that at the end of the day...this is still a movie with some pretty stupid comedy, which it leans into too much. And that's ironic, because by doubling down on the tone he's going for, Mike Judge makes a lot of the comedy too...well, dumb. Idiocracy definitely has something to say, but the problem is that it recycles the same jokes/humor over and over to say it, and after a certain point, it just becomes one-note and frankly tiresome. The movie isn't without its jokes that land, however, but those are pretty few and far between for me. Terry Crews gets some decent lauhs as The President, but Dax Shepherd is frankly annoying in his role. Big surprise, right? I can see Idiocracy working as an episode of a comedy television show, but even as an 84-minute film, the premise feels like it reaches its maximum mileage even before the halfway mark.

Didn’t the movie get butchered by the studio?

I don't know about that, but it was pretty much screwed over by the studio. Given the bare minimum of screens needed in order to say they fulfilled their contract, but absolutely zero marketing. It all mainly stemmed from the fact that companies like Starbucks and Costco, who are portrayed poorly in the movie, obviously weren't thrilled about how they looked in it, so Fox just decided to cut their losses.

I recall the studio heavily re-editing the movie. I don’t know if there’s a director’s cut that people are watching, but the theatrical version is pretty shitty. Even Mike Judge doesn’t like it.

All I see out there is the 84-minute theatrical cut.

I know a lot of people are huge fans of Idiocracy. I tried giving it a go a few years back, made it about an hour and didn't follow through with the rest. I'll give it a full spin one of these days, it is Mike Judge after all, he's pretty brilliant.
Where do we all land on 300? I've seen it a few times and I still find it entertaining and fun although I know a lot of people hate it for some reason or another. Is it because it has the name Zak Snyder attached to it?

Six years ago when the sequel or side-quel or whatever the hell it was was coming out, the theater I went to at the time showed that trailer with literally EVERY movie I went to see from like the October before right up to its release in early March. If I hadn't already had no interest in seeing it, that would've turned me off completely anyway.

I saw it with friends, liked it in the moment, and had my good opinion of it shattered in the parking lot when my gay friend said it was the "most homoerotic major release in recent memory"

I have zero memory of this MovieBuff801- SnoBorderZero 300 feud. But that’s likely cause I was having my own feud with Dracula over Grindhouse.

My recolection isn't so much that it was recut so much as it was just buried. It was in theaters for like a weak, got the contractual minimum of advertising, and then basically went straight to video. I think they were really concerned about the fact that it used real brands like Wal-Mart and Gatorade. Where do we all land on 300? I've seen it a few times and I still find it entertaining and fun although I know a lot of people hate it for some reason or another. Is it because it has the name Zak Snyder attached to it? I liked it a lot at the time... from memory I probably stand by that opinion for the most part, though I may find some of its aesthetics a bit less to my liking. I kind of had this whole theory that, because it was being narrated by that one guy before a later a battle, a lot of its over the top accesses make a little more sense in so much as its being told by an unreliable narrator and looked at that way it's a bit more interesting. I saw it with friends, liked it in the moment, and had my good opinion of it shattered in the parking lot when my gay friend said it was the "most homoerotic major release in recent memory" You say that like it's a bad thing. It sparked quite the debate between SnoBorderZero and I -- especially since it was around the time At World's End came out. I'm surprised you of all people don't remember that. I have zero memory of this MovieBuff801- SnoBorderZero 300 feud. But that’s likely cause I was having my own feud with Dracula over Grindhouse. History has more than proven me right about that. People might still debate the merits of Death Proof, but no one gives the slightest fuck about Planet Terror anymore.

I like 300. It's stylish fun and a neat exorcise in myth-making. Also gave us an early Fassbender appearance.

a neat exorcise in myth-making. That was my opinion at the time too. Although I didn’t care for the grainy-ass cinematography.
