MoviePass has started to remove select AMC theaters from their app as they have now passed 1.5 million subscribers.

Bigger markets that charge way more than 10 bucks a ticket. I don't like how they didn't tell anyone being kinda shady with that and I would be majorly pissed.
Mine still works though at every theater. Absolutely love the service and have the cheaper rate now.

I always feel like I'm getting screwed by technology, everything that would excite me comes out just weeks after I'm unable to use it. I met my now-wife about 3 weeks before I'd heard of Tinder which all my friends started raving about. Now people are cleaning up with Movie Pass which I would have gone crazy with had it came out a little earlier. Bah!

Topic change/rant:
Every once in a while, one of the main theaters I go to gets into a...trailer rut, where they seem to show literally the same four trailers with almost every movie. It happened early last summer where one of the repeat trailers was The Dark Tower and it's been happening again with: Tomb Raider, Rampage, Alita: Battle Angel and A Wrinkle in Time. And the annoying part is most of those are still pretty far away, so if they keep this up...ugh. But I hope they change them up soon. My last few theater visits have been to ones apart from this particular theater, so that's been a reprieve, but has anyone else ever had this problem? I know people probably get at least one trailer endlessly, but four is just downright ridiculous.

What really annoys me is when the show the same advertisement before the trailers over and over again. There was a period where I saw the same Stella Artois ad in front of every movie I saw for a solid year, and I think I've seen the same MPAA disclaimer with the PG13 super hero and the PG13 Mardi Gras guy in front of everything for longer than I can remember.

And the M&M commercial about silencing your phone. I think most people have gotten the message to turn their phones on silent by now. It's the people that think it's okay to sit and play on their phone that bother me. I might not be able to hear it but you basically have a torch shining in your face and mine. It's distracting! Put it away!

That might be what tips me into getting one of these damn things. Something like half the movies I go to are at Landmark theaters.

The two nearest Landmark theaters to me are both an hour away.

There's only a couple Landmark theaters in Los Angeles. The high-end chain out here is Arclight which I think it also located in San Diego, Chicago and Washington DC. They were originally known as the theater chain where you could 'reserve your seats in advance' but nowadays it seems like every Regal and AMC does the same thing, the difference is Arclight charges about $6 more a ticket. They only have a couple previews though and 0 commercials which is very nice, every movie starts about 5 minutes after the lights go down.

Landmark, at least the one here, isn’t “high-end.” It has reclining chairs and a bar, but what AMC doesn’t these days? The beauty of Landmark is its size. The one here is only 6 screens. It’s an intimate environment. Compare that to the AMC’s and Regal’s with 20+ screens and thousands of customers per day. I’m just not in the mood for that shit anymore. I hate looking for parking. I hate long lines. I hate strangers sitting right next to me. I want a quiet stress-free moviegoing experience. If MoviePass fucks this up... man...

Landmark theaters tend to vary pretty widely by location. In my city there are three of them: one has six rather small screens and doesn't appear to have been remodeled since 1982, another as four rather large screens but looks like it hasn't been remodeled since 1995, and the other is a one screen theater that was built in the 1910s but was remodeled a couple years ago to have a bar and seats that wouldn't eat the customers. In short these are all theaters that are unified more by the kind of movies they play than by their amenities, and that's fine by me.

MoviePass switching to only 4 movies per month. It’s only affecting new customers at the moment, but it’s only a matter of time till they force it on everybody.

Link? That's only the ihesrtradio shit at the moment. Dont be so alarmist. But it does make sense, and for me, I would still keep my sub. Although I'm locked in until December regardless so ...

There doesn't appear to be any other option at the moment. $30 for three months is now the only subscription model you can choose. If you scroll down to the bottom of their site, it does still say "See a 2D movie every day", but when you click on it, it brings you back to the $30, 4 ticket, iheart subscription. Guess that needs to be updated.

Theaters might not be hurt this summer... But during the winter months if moviepass fails I think they will feel it.
Although honestly at 4 movies a month I'd still buy it at ten bucks a month.
But all this doom and gloom about it sounds like hit pieces from the movie industry ala Netflix original movie coverage too.
