Bad boys - The Esai Morales/Sean Penn version or the Martin Lawrence/Will Smith one? Kind of liked both The (1995) next to the title kind of gives it away. not if you copy it from a different post and never look at the original

I didn't see the other two but Field of Dreams was always a sappy melodramatic sob story.

Green Zone - Rewatched this last Friday, and wow, was it better than I remembered. I agree with Dracula in that it manages to be an effective action film set in Iraq, but I still find The Hurt Locker to be better overall between the two. This not only cements that Paul Greengrass is a great action director, but a great director in general; he creates a relentless -- but not tiring -- pace and he and screenwriter Brian Helgeland craft an interesting take on some real events. I'd say this is as awesome as The Bourne Ultimatum.
****/****
Field of Dreams - Whoa, whoa, whoa! What's with all the negativity? This is a classic! So heartwarming and magical, and this is coming from someone who doesn't give a shit about baseball.
****/****
Bad Boys - The characters are annoying, the story uninteresting and the action only mildly entertaining. But at least it's not as horrendously awful as its sequel.

The very phrase "heartwarming and magical" makes me groan.
At least we agree on Bad Boys.

Oh I'm perfectly happy, but I really don't care if Kevin Costner gets to have a catch with his Dad or not.

1. The Bridge on the River Kwai: Masterpiece. One of the best films ever made. Great performances, incredible scenes, and a real sense of weight. I love it. A+
2. Beetlejuice: I don't know if I've ever seen this the whole way through.
3. Reservoir Dogs: This used to be one of my favourite movies, but I've recently come to see how flawed it is. The film sort of falls into the main characters endlessly yelling and swearing at each other. It's still a very entertaining film, with some great dialogue and memorable characters, but Tarantino evolved a lot between this and Pulp Fiction. A-

The Bridge on the River Kwai: Brilliant movie that played a pretty big role in my current love of cinema. ****
Beetlejuice: I don't think I've really seen it recently enough to talk about it intelligently. It's probably alright. N/A
Reservoir Dogs: It's a very cool movie, but you can tell that it's the work of an inexperienced filmmaker. I certainly enjoy watching it but I don't necessarily hold it up too high as a brilliant piece of work. ***1/2

The Bridge on the River Kwai - Excellent. David Lean is awesome.
Beetlejuice - I dont know that I've seen the whole thing through. Just bits and pieces. Not my kind of thing.
Reservoir Dogs - I like the banter and the unorthodox storytelling timeline. Its quite good.

Never seen TBOTRK.
Beetlejuice is a comedy classic with near unlimited replay value.
Dogs remains my favourite Tarantino movie and had a significant impact on my movie-watching tendencies after I first saw it aged 10 or 11.

Bridge on the River Kwai is a classic although I prefer Lawrence of Arabia.
Beetlejuice is...different. I enjoy it although it's not really funny considering the cult status it has as a dark comedy.
Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino, I think his only movie that felt 'real.'

The Bridge on the River Kwai - Great film. Intense and riveting while making sure every character is developed and sympathetic; a classic.
****/****
Beetlejuice - I'm not quite sure how strongly I feel about it; I flip back and forth a lot on it. The story honestly feels a bit thin, but the comedy is pretty great, as is Keaton, and the movie is also great to look at.
***/****
Reservoir Dogs - It's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember enjoying it even if Tarantino's amateur qualities of filmmaking at the time were evident. Good, but definitely a lesser work in Tarantino's filmography.

Moving on...
1. Spider-Man (2002)
2. Jurassic Park
3. Taken

Spider-Man (2002): It obviously influenced its genre heavily and also set up a great sequel, so it's got that going for it. It also does have some solid stuff unto itself, however, I don't think it holds up tremendously. There are just a lot of little "wtf" moments that bring it down. **1/2
Jurassic Park: Solid blockbuster that obviously played a big role in the incorperation of CGI into film. That said I do think it's a step down from other Spielberg blockbusters like Jaws, Close Encounters, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Minority Report. The characters are a little stock and I also don't think its finale is as climactic as it needed to be. ***1/2
Taken: A forgetable mediocrity. **

Spider-Man: It doesn't really hold up, but it's a fun movie with some heart. B-
Jurassic Park: Pretty awesome blockbuster, but I don't love it as much as most, mostly for reasons Dracula provided. A-
Taken: It's a decent action film made solid due to an intense turn from Liam Neeson. B-

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't understand the love or even mild enjoyment of any Spider-Man movie. They are so, so bad. Jurassic Park is great. Taken is the definition of switch the brain off action movie. Nothing I'll watch on my death bed but I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least somewhat entertained.

Spider-Man: Entertaining and serviceable enough, but hasn't held up all that well years later; a more mild entry into the genre.
**1/2 /****
Jurassic Park: A very strong and exciting blockbuster, but not great due mainly to a cast of stock characters. Still, it's a great time.
***1/2 /****
Taken: Parts of it are fun and Liam Neeson is intense, but this is a mostly mediocre movie at the end of the day.
