Spider-man - well, it was a thrill to finally see an adaptation that made me forget the rope webs and cheesy sfx of the Nicholas Hammond TV series but yeah the Raimi movies had their flaws too
Jurassic Park - I think I saw it 4 times in the theater
Taken - I liked the intensity

I remember my dad taking me to see Jurassic Park when I was 8 years old. He and my mom were arguing in the driveway because she thought I was too young to see it and it would give me nightmares. My dad won out though because he's a man and it was awesome.

Spider-man - its good despite some really cheesy aspects. 8/10
Jurassic Park - Masterful. 10/10
Taken - A fun time which pretty much wins people over with the awesome phone call scene and has them hooked from that point. 8/10

Spider-Man - My favourite of the Raimi films, still. None of them have much replayability for me though. 7.5/10
Jurassic Park - I remember it as a stone cold classic but I don't think I've seen it for a good 10 years or more. 9/10
Taken - Did exactly what it said on the tin. Enjoyable, forgettable fluff. 7/10

1. Planes, Trains, & Automobiles: It is an amusing movie. B
2. Office Space: Also an amusing movie. B
3. V For Vendetta: This movie came out when I was eighteen, enjoyed comic books, and was wildly angry about George W. Bush, so I was in pretty much the perfect place to love this movie at the time. Now, I don't know how well it would hold up. I also don't necessarily think it's a wildly good action movie. Still, I do sort of respect that it was made when it was made. B

Right now I'm imagining Dracula with a monocle and a pipe.
1. Planes, Trains, & Automobiles - Still funny to this day. B
2. Office Space - Hilarious. One of my favorites. A-
3. V for Vendetta - Granted, I haven't seen it in awhile. But I loved it back then. I can't imagine my opinion changing that radically. A-

Planes, Trains, & Automobiles: A nice break away from the typical teen fare for John Hughes and it's definitely an entertaining movie. Nothing special but nothing really wrong with it either. 7/10
Office Space: Funny, well written, and a nice cast. Always makes me laugh and it's held up well over the years. 8/10
V For Vendetta: Kinda on the same page as Drac, I haven't seen it since its release but it's a well made film and a lot better than anything the Wachowskis actually directed since the first Matrix and had some pretty fun sequences. It's a movie I need to revisit and see how it holds up, but I remember scoring it a high 7/10.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles - Classic comedy starting two of the best actor comedians.
Office Space - A cult classic of sorts that despite its limited plot focus, lead me to think about bigger things like the meaning of life in a world where offices are where many people live the majority of their lives in unhappiness.
V for Vendetta - Just okay. Bald Portman was weird.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles - Really funny comedy featuring two highly entertaining performances by Steve Martin and John Candy, both of whom have great chemistry to boot, as well as a very well-done pace. Mostly lives up to its reputation. ***1/2 /****
Office Space - I like it, it's good, but I just didn't see it as any kind of comedy classic. ***/****
V For Vendetta - This one's grown on me quite a bit over the years. Terrific performances, a very interesting storyline and script, and effective use of action when necessary (who cares if it's not action-driven?). One of my Top Ten Superhero/Comic Book Films. ****/****

Planes Trains and Automobiles: It's been a while. I remember it being funny, but I'd need to revisit it before grading.
Office Space: Some funny stuff. Not great, but fun. B
V for Vendetta: Loved it in high school. Will probably revisit this soon.

Looks like it's time for a new set.
1. The Deer Hunter
2. Kindergarten Cop
3. The Bourne Identity The Deer HunterBeen meaning to give The Deer Hunter a rewatch, I remember it having some very strong moments, but also being kind of long and a bit on the slow side. Then again I was pretty young when I watched it, so I might have just missed some of the nuance. B+ Kindergarten CopIt is what it is I guess. It has some amusing moments, don't know that I'd call it hilariously funny or anything, but it pretty much does what it sets out to do, probably the best of Schwarzenegger's comedic phase. C- The Bourne IdentityA very well made but not overly remarkable spy thriller. Honestly, I'm not sure why it caught on like it did, but I guess I'm glad it did because Paul Greengrass turned it into something pretty special with the sequels. B

The Deer Hunter- Slow moving but very effective Best Picture winner from 1978. Does an excellent job of setting up characters so when the real stuff starts going down in Vietnam it makes the horrors of war much more effective. Plus the Russian Roulette scene is one of the most famous in film history. A very strong 8/10.
Kindergarten Cop- Funny, but doesn't always know what it wants to be. It starts out with violence, drugs, etc. and then shifts awkwardly to Ahnuld and the kids generating laughs. There's some suspense as to who the kid is and the climax is decent, but tonally it's a bit of a mess despite having some pretty funny stuff in it. 6/10
The Bourne Identity- The one that started it all. Very good despite being easily the weakest of the three. Nice introduction to the character, though plot-wise falls short in comparison to its improved successors. 7/10

1. The Deer Hunter: I loved it when I first saw it, but it hasn't really stuck with me too well. Certain scenes are etched in my brain but the whole is a bit fuzzy. Will have to rewatch at some point. A-
2. Kindergarten Cop: Haven't seen it since I was a kid.
3. The Bourne Identity: My favourite of the Bourne series. Great action, an intriguing story, and a certain feeling of importance and sophistication. I love it. A

TDH - An all-time classic. An emotional kick rarely equaled.
KC - Been too long, can't remember anything beyond Arnie telling a load of brats to STFU.
TBH - My favourite of the trilogy, too. Great fun, constantly engaging and responsible for the origin of one of the naughties' most memorable (hey-oooo) heroes.

The Deer Hunter: My recent Letterboxd review:
Wow. Just wow.
The Deer Hunter is such tour de force, unrelenting filmmaking, yet sheer raw power comes not from aggressive or fancy direction, but just the opposite: from director Michael Cimino's blunt and confident storytelling that delivers the film's effectiveness like a blow to the gut. This film runs just slightly over three hours and devotes much of the first sixty to seventy minutes to a Russian orthodox wedding and its buildup and aftermath, yet there's not one boring moment to be found anywhere in the 183-minute running time. The real beauty of that first hour, though, is that it establishes its main characters in such a vivid way that when the transition to the horrors of Vietnam occurs, seeing the toll that it takes on their lives from there on out has as much impact as possible. During that whole Vietnam sequence is what has to be one of the best and most tense scenes ever put on film: the Russian roulette scene. Robert De Niro gives what has to be one of the best performances of his career as Michael, an already-tough guy whose experiences hollow him out and Christopher Walken is equally tremendous as Nick, who goes through the same transformation, but with much more tragic connotations. The final scenes between those two are riveting and heartbreaking at the same time. We've obviously seen many great war films by now, but The Deer Hunter distinguishes itself by dealing more with the aftereffects of the violence rather than the violence itself. It's an incredible piece of filmmaking and one not to be missed if you haven't seen it already.
****/****
Kindergarten Cop: It's cute and pretty fun, but bookended by a First and Third Act whose grittiness sort of clash with the rest of the film. ***/****
The Bourne Identity: A good franchise start, but it still feels like a rather plain action film, especially in comparison with the superior sequels. ***/****
New set:
1. ...And Justice For All
2. The Lives of Others
3. Ocean's Eleven (2001)

1. And Justice for All: Pretty solid Metallica album, though the bass is barely audible and this is definitely a step down from the near perfect trifecta of Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets.
2. The Lives of Others: Engaging and thoughtful exploration of a surveillance state and just an all around great, subtle film. A
3. Ocean's Eleven: So much fun. A-
