Similar to Ian's thread focused on TV shows, I thought it only appropriate to have a companion thread for it, this one dedicated to movies, obviously. So, like the other thread, I will list three random movies at a time and all you have to do is leave your overall opinion of each. When it seems like any and all conversation has been exhausted for the current trio, I'll post a new set and so on and so forth.
Now then, let's get cracking!
1. Psycho (1960)
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off
3. Quantum of Solace

1. Psycho: Deserves its classic reputation. Possibly Hitchcock's best.
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off: Overrated. It's an alright movie but I don't get the hype.
3. Quantum of Solace: I don't hate it like some Bond fans do, but it's not very good.

1. Psycho - B
While the build-up is nice, the theme and nature of the character is laid on really thick in the end. Didn't leave an impression on me, nor was I really all that intrigued by the character (who seems paper-thin), though I did enjoy myself.
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off - B
This is still a fun film. It's not a great one by any measure, but it's entertaining. There really isn't that much more to say.
3. Quantum of Solace - D+
Thematically this is a very interesting film. It's not very good, though. Disjointed, uninteresting, and a little lazy.

1. Psycho (1960): Awesome movie that was way ahead of its time. Was doing big twists before it was cool and has two of the greatest set-pieces of Hitchcock's career.
**** out of Four
2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off: It is a moderately enjoyable movie. That is all. Nostalgic 80s people who claim it's a "classic" are delusional.
*** out of Four
3. Quantum of Solace: Terrible. One of the worst Bond movies ever. Needlessly abandons many of the series' traditions and offers nothing in return to make up for it. Also just a mess of a story and a very poorly edited action movie.
*1/2 out of Four

1. Psycho - Awesome stuff. Unorthodox story structure and very creepy scenes. 9/10
2. Ferris Bueller - A movie that seems to be more for other people than myself. I still like it though. 7/10
3. Quantum of Solace - Very... blah. I'm not really a Bond fan, but even I thought the things that make Bond Bond were severly lacking here. 5/10

Psycho - it's Psycho, great movie.
Ferris Bueller - fun movie, I don't admire it like some people do but it's a cool movie to watch from time to time.
Quantum of Solace - yeah, I don't hate it either. It has some fun action sequences and although it's not a great film it's not the worst thing either. My opinion has tempered a bit since my first viewing but it's still not awful. Also, there are a few Bond films worse than QoS.

Psycho - Watchable but ultimately ineffective as a horror movie in modern times
Ferris Bueller - Gave up halfway through as Matthew Broderick's face was annoying me
Quantum of Solace - Never bothered

But is it really that good? Even by John Hughes standards he made way better films.

Psycho - never watched
Ferris Bueller - fun movie, but not one I feel the need to watch again.
Quantum of Solace - Did not like. Some of the action sequences were fine, but in the end their fighting over **Spoilers** water **end spoilers**. I understand that is important, but at the time it just struck me as really stupid. I am planning on watching it again to see if my opinion changes.

Psycho
Fantastic; one of my Ten All-Time Favorite Films. Hitchcock's natural panache for creating suspense is at its best here; the tension is just great. The story is gripping, too, even on re-watches. A prime example of both the horror and thriller genres.
****/****
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
It's fun and entertaining, but yeah, that's about it. "Good, not great," certainly applies here.
***/****
Quantum of Solace
I liked this movie initially, but further viewings haven't done it any favors. The story isn't nearly as compelling as the ones in Casino Royale and Skyfall, and Marc Forster feels almost too preoccupied with cramming as many action scenes into the short 108-minute running time as possible. Daniel Craig is excellent as Bond once again, but mostly everything else is pretty sub-par.

I'm glad the old forum didn't live long enough to witness this blasphemy. Let us take a moment to remember the good times.

Didn't you know? You can't say anything bad about anything that came out of the 80s with Neverending around.

It's your fault our old home was shut down. Even you have to admit this underwhelming response to a beloved movie is very troublesome. Especially when you have Dracula calling people delusional. For example, you know very well that I think Ridley Scott's Alien is a boring movie, but I would never say it's NOT a classic and call people delusional because they think it is. So yes, this attitude is a reason why the CS! forums shut down. Imagine you, as a science-fiction, going to a message board and the first thing you see is someone say, "anyone who thinks Galaxy Quest is a classic is delusional." You would probably never visit that message board again. So now that we have a new home, let's try not to be jerks about things that have been around for many years and mean something to people.

I calls it like I see it. Then you're the one who's delusional. If a movie has been relevant for 28 years, longer than you've been alive, and is beloved by millions - then yes - it IS a classic. Just because you, personally, don't care for it doesn't change that fact. I, personally, don't care about Citizen Kane but I'm not gonna deny its place in movie history and start calling people delusional.

1. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron BurgundyI'm not a fan, but I've grown to appreciate it. Classic. I liked it when I watched it, but I don't remember much about it except it being a waste of time at the end with that eye-rolling twist ending.

1. Anchorman: Fun little film, but all it offers is some goofy laughs and it gets old quick. B-
2. Predator: Love it. The cast is great, the action awesome, and the creature design iconic. Beneath all the bravado (which is itself a lot of fun) there's also some great action filmmaking and a clever script. A
3. The Game: The script is a bit wacky, particularly the twist, but I love the visuals and Michael Douglas. Great example of how Fincher's direction can elevate material, but still minor in his overall filmography. B+

Anchorman - Awesome comedy. Lots of laughs to be had, Ferrell is hilarious. I don't praise many comedies, but this is one or the more recent ones that I will. 8/10
Predator - Also awesome. Great jungle setting, great premise, lots of cheesy action movie stuff in a good way. Predator design is kick ass, and his one on one battle with Arnie rocks. 8/10
The Game - Its a neat mystery, but pretends it has more substance than I think it actually does. 7/10

Anchorman: Not my thing. C-
Predator: Fun action movie with some very cool moments, a well designed monster, and some very memorable (if cheesy) dialog. B+
The Game: You have to get past the fact that it is very unbelievable and unrealistic, but if you can just accept that it's a very well crafted and enjoyable thriller. B+

Anchorman
I'm not normally a fan of Will Ferrell's schtick, but some reason, I went for this one. It's goofy, inconsequential, but most of all, it's funny and that's what matters most in the end.
***/****
Predator
Pretty awesome. It's a very well-made action film with genuinely exciting action sequences and another fun performance by Schwarzenegger. I especially love the climax, which is essentially dialogue-free but still compelling; I love touches like that in movies.
***1/2 /****
The Game
The filmmaking from Fincher is great as always, but the story and storytelling aren't anything really special. Maybe it was because I watched the movie already knowing the ending and thus couldn't truly invest myself in anything that was going on, but I still feel like even if I hadn't known, I probably could've guessed and been just as indifferent.
