Nah. It was not the first movie to use stop motion by any means and few people seem to go to bad for it's qualities as a film.

It's pretty good. A dinosaur roams around Burbank, California at the end.

1. Lawrence of Arabia: A grand epic with massive influence.
2. To Kill a Mockingbird: An American classic with an interesting perspective on race relations.
3. Jules and Jim: One of the major films of the French New Wave and a highly influential work.
4. Dr. No: Launched one of the most major film franchises of all time and established a lot of the series' key elements.
5. The Manchurian Candidate: A brilliantly constructed thriller which captures the political anxieties of the era. Feels very ahead of its time and the brainwashing plot has been re-appropriated elsewhere.
Honourable Mentions:
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: Ford's final great film and a pretty bold in its revisionary depiction of the west.
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?: A classic which started off a minor trend of similarly themed films.
Harakiri: Epic film.
Lolita: Even hindered by censors, this is still bold for its day.
Carnival of Souls: Low-budget horror which has inspired a lot of other filmmakers working with minimal resources.

Lawrence of Arabia Manchurian Candidate To Kill a Mockingbird Liberty Valance Cape Fear - Mitchums performance is iconic and it's influence alone makes this films argument.
Leaving Dr. No off. Bond wasn't good until the third movie. Putting something in for being the first movie in a franchise is how we end up with shitty movies like the first Harry Potter.

Lawrence of Arabia Jules and Jim To Kill a Mockingbird The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance The Exterminating Angel
Skink is right, this is an incredibly tough year. There's a lot of ways you can go for 1962 and you wouldn't be wrong. I think the only absolute no doubter is Lawrence of Arabia.

Basically. I use the Top 1,000 list to sort by year, but the better way to go is Letterboxd which is what I think most people us.

You're ditching Harakiri but keeping Ride The High Country? To me Ride the High Country is important because it's a sort of finale to the Wayne/Ford variety of westerns.

Okay, Lawrence is in for sure.
Next choices are Mockingbird, Jules and Jim (what is that by the way?), and Manchurian candidate.
5th spot can still be debated, Liberty Valence is frontrunner right now.

Okay, Lawrence is in for sure. Next choices are Mockingbird, Jules and Jim (what is that by the way?), and Manchurian candidate. 5th spot can still be debated, Liberty Valence is frontrunner right now. Jules and Jim is an important French New Wave movie with some iconic scenes. Ever wonder why Samuel L. Jackson's character in Pulp Fiction is named Jules? It's because his friend played by Quentin Tarantino at the end is named Jim. It's a coded reference to Jules and Jim. It's looking like my Ride the High Country vote is going to be wasted so I'll switch it over to Harakiri, which seems to have a lot more support. Alternately I might be willing to get behind Liberty Valance if only for the "print the legend" line. Also, just throwing this out there... how important is To Kill a Mockingbird really? The book is certainly important, not sure that the fairly straightforward (if well done and popular) movie adaptation is all that important in the grand scheme of things.

I was kinda thinking the same thing Drac. The novel is what seems most important.
