I don't think "Gran Torino" is a great film, but it's very good and to me better than the other two options. Not all years have 5 "great" films, generally there's like 2 or 3.

I am not understanding this.... Remember, this isn't "good" movies. It might be easier if when you list the year if you also list the movies you have no intention of adding to the list. Unimportant movies. Those are ones I have no intention of adding. Unimportant movies.

No way Gran Torino should be here. At all. Nor should Milk. Maybe we should start by listing what we think are locks. The Dark Knight and Iron Man seem agreed upon. WALL-E also seems a reoccurring choice and people are starting to come around on Cloverfield.

I'd be much more willing to support 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days than Synecdoche.
I just can't see importance in Synecdoche.

I'll support Twilight. It's more important than Synecdoche.

What about The Wrester? I've said a piece for it already. The film was one of the most talked about and highly praised of the year and is the best sports film of the era.

I like the movie a lot and I'd support it over Twilight, but I'm not really seeing the case for it. If we're just going to throw in an acclaimed and popular movie Slumdog Millionaire might be the more logical choice.

Okay, so Dark Knight, Iron Man, WallE are in, Cloverfield we will say is in as well.
The Wrestler and Gran Torino are next, Twilight is also an option. If we did 4 Months in 2007 I guess that's out.

I never got the love for Wall-E. Boring movie, looks OK, my kids barely liked it.
If Twilight is put in over Gran Torino or The Wrestler I will have to retire from this thread.

Yeah there's no way in hell "Twilight" should be on here, the success of those films is more sad than important.

In regards to "Cloverfield", I enjoyed it when I saw it, but haven't seen it since and I'm not sure how well it'll hold up. I understand there was a ton of hype around it initially, but no one really talks about it anymore. If it's important for anything, it did have an excellent marketing strategy. Other than that, it's just a fun movie that utilizes a handheld camera technique already long established.

Exceptional marketing and ushered in the era of the found footage horror movie.
Also, in regards to The Wrestler, I know it inspired Danny Boyle, particularly in regards to 127 Hours. Beyond that, I just feel more and more people will come to embrace The Wrestler in the next few years. Most non-cinephile adults don't really want complex or abstract films (like Synecdoche, New York), but they do want genuinely good stories told with conviction and passion. The Wrestler is that film, and it's gonna be remembered as one of the greats of the 2000s.

I get what you're saying, but wouldn't "The Blair Witch Project" be more responsible for that?
And I totally agree about "The Wrestler", not just a really strong film but also one that's accessible for pretty much anyone.

I can't remember the last time anyone said anything about The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke's "comeback" didn't last very long. Has that guy been in any movies since The Expendables? And any good will that Darren Aronofsky built with The Wrestler and Black Swan was lost with Noah's Ark. I hear he's a film professor at NYU now.

Yeah I'd rather see "The Wrestler" in there than the other options.
