And I wanna vote for The Thin Blue Line in 88. Given that this is Ian's baby though, I'd say he makes the call.

Ian worked at McDonalds. You work at McDonalds. Super Size Me is about McDonalds. The ball is in your court, Cooper. If documentaries will be allowed, this is the moment to make it happen. Talk sense into your fellow Canadian.

I think docs are perfectly acceptable if they are indeed important works of filmmaking. Key word: filmmaking. Not important works of propaganda. Fahrenheit 9/11 might not have single handedly sunk a presidency (as if any movie could), but it did get people talking in a way that very few documentaries do and it caused a major stir. It won a Palme d'Or at Cannes and it was about as widely seen as any doc ever would be and it (along with Moore's other films which this will sort of represent) set the template for the "crusading documentarian putting himself at the center of an investigation" form which has influenced many other topical documentaries including Morgan Spurlock's.

Seven Up might have been in for 1954 if that was the case

The Incredibles. I get that the film was an improvement in computer animation, but it seems more like a logical step than a leap forward. Without this step you would still be watching movies about anamorphic talking animals or creature features. Logical? Yes. Simple. No? I'm willing to recognize the influence Passion of Christ had. I think Fahrenheit 9/11 is overrated.

I don't particularly like Fahrenheit 9/11 either, it's probably my least favorite of Michael Moore's films, but it's the one that captured the zeitgeist and became a phenomenon.

Here's the flaw with your argument. Michael Moore's documentary style began with Roger & Me in 1989. It's the documentary that created public awareness for how the auto industry destroyed Detroit and Flint. It put Moore on the map and it's currently preserved by the U.S. government. Plus, the box office success of Fahrenheit is a direct result of Bowling for Columbine. Moore got so much attention for that documentary that his follow-up was always gonna be high-profile. And the fact that Farenheit was released in an Election year and Moore went on every political show to criticize Bush added to that. But ultimately, like I said, Fahrenheit accomplished nothing. It was all hype. Super Size Me, by contrast, forced a Billion dollar corporation to change its ways. Or at least pretend it did. It's obvious Super Size Me is more important than Fahrenheit.

I'd rather not bring docs into it, but what we could do is have a documentary honourable mention or something when necessary.

In that case, my revised list:
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2. The Bourne Supremacy 3. Collateral 4. The Passion of the Christ 5. Shaun of the Dead

Fascinating. Oh well. Ian can double check and do his own tally, but it looks like Dracula sealed the 5th spot for Saw.

Anything but Passion of the Christ. It wasn't popular with anyone outside of religious sects. Watching a guy get tortured for two hours is not groundbreaking. It was only mildly interesting because they spoke in Latin, Aramaic, and other dead languages.
