Wow. Okay... 1. 50/50 - A perfect movie for the "millennial's." 2. Contagion - Steven Soderbergh offered a somewhat realistic portrayal of what might happen if America ever suffered a plague. 3. Hugo - Martin Scorsese's propaganda for the importance of film preservation. 4. Tower Heist - Even though this movie got no love whatsoever, mostly because of prejudice towards Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner, it did capture the heart of the "99% vs 1%" debate and created great fantasy out of it. I'm sure this movie will find an audience on television... eventually. 5. X-Men: First Class - How to safe a franchise without rebooting it.

My god, this is asinine. Ummm...
The Tree of Life: Future classic that seems to have inspired a new wave of directors inspired by Malick.
Bridesmaids: Allegedly broke the comedic glass ceiling. I don't necessarily think that's 100% true, but that's the narrative at the moment.
Contagion: Will probably be brought up every time the media is blowing an "epidemic" out of proportion, which is to say very often.
Melancholia: One of the more accessible films of Lars Von Trier's recent catalog.
Drive: I'm not a big fan, but it seems to have become one of the bigger cult films or recent memory and some of its stylistic tricks seem to have been adopted.

Eh. The hype went away for Bridesmaids. When it comes to women in comedy, Parks & Recreation seems to have stolen the thunder thanks to Amy Poehler and Aubrey Plaza. Name me 10 people you know, outside the Internet, who have seen it. Maybe. And that's a BIG maybe.

1. Drive: One of the most loved films in recent years.
2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two: Ended a massive franchise which defined the childhoods of a generation.
3. X-Men: First Class: Saved the X-Men franchise and the young cast seem to have been very successful since.
4. Rise of the Planet of the Apes: Amazing special effects, furthered the debate regarding motion capture performances, and made The Planet of the Apes franchise more respectable than ever.
5. Contagion: A realistic portrayal of a massive epidemic spreading, and it taps into very relevant fears.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 2 The end for this massive franchise, influenced an entire generation of readers and spawned so many imations (one if which was released this week).
Drive Striking and unique many ways, put Nicolas Winding Refn on the hollywood radar. This also burst the bubble on the Hollywood marketing machine with the first lawsuit for "false advertising".
Hugo A beautifully crafted love letter to the ingenuity and spirit of film itself.
The Grey you all might disagree but it was the sleeper hit of the year for me. Surprisingly complex in its sparsity. A great example of the survival genre. Proved Liam Neeson could still carry a drama with out the need for gunplay.
X-Man: First Class making the best of a bad situation and breathing new life into a franchise that has movies plans well into the future.

1. Drive: One of the most loved films in recent years. Really? I guess. As much as I enjoy it, I wouldn't call it "important." Yeah... maybe.

Drive is the one out of all these I'd say most deserves to be in there.
The BBC's most prominent radio DJ recently re-scored it using a whole host of bands and artists; it was screened on BBC3 on October 30th. Pointless, yes, seeing how near-perfect the original score was, but a sign of its continued effect on pop culture. I'm surprised Neverending, of all people, doesn't see that.

First off, I can't believe no one has said this:
A Separation Drive The Tree of Life Midnight in Paris Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Also I'd like to give a shout out to my favorite film from that year: Wuthering Heights

I'm surprised Neverending, of all people, doesn't see that. I can guarantee that in 50 years no one will remember that Drive even exists.

First off, I can't believe no one has said this: A SeparationI love A Separation, but it doesn't seem to have made too much of an impact. It's a fantastic movie, but it seems one only embraced by a limited audience. I can guarantee that in 50 years no one will remember that Drive even exists. Not like Tower Heist. That movie has staying power.

Drive has a far more passionate and hardcore fan-base than A Separation, which is mostly only loved by critical circles.
Neverending likes to use the "how many people do you know that have seen *blank*" argument. Well, I know a ton of people who love Drive. Many who have said it's one of their favourite movies.

Tree of Life without a doubt.
I guess Drive, but it already seems forgotten.
I can also see Hugo. Should Moneyball be considered? Man, this is hard. Sorry guys, I wasn't expecting this to actually pop up for quite a while yet.

I guess Drive, but it already seems forgotten. I couldn't disagree more. If you really don't think it's that important, which five would you put a head of it?
