- The first filmmaker to get more than one film on the list is Ian and I's favourite, Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood). Since then, only two other filmmakers have achieved getting two films on the list; Stanley Kubrick (Dr. Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket) and Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers and RoboCop). Ummm... I think the first filmmaker to get more than one was Alfred Hitchcock (The Man Who Knew Too Much and Rear Window). You're also forgetting about Frank Capra (It Happened One Night and Mr Smith Goes to Washington), Victor Fleming (Gone With the Wind and The Wizard of Oz), Leo McCarey (Make Way For Tomorrow and The Awful Truth), and Jean Renoir (Grand Illusion and The Rules of the Game).

As for the year eligibility stuff... maybe we should just say that all of these movies are eligible in both of the years they span but only allow them to make the final list in one.

Right...thanks. I guess that's what I get for haphazardly posting stuff as a means of procrastinating.

But surely there was some fabulous movie in 1926 that made people say "You know, we deserve more congratulations for this stuff."

We really need to lock down a release date criteria. I think films should just fall under whatever year they're released in their original county.
Also, I think The Pianist should probably be considered a bit more, what with the Polanski stuff and everything, yet still being embraced by a large majority of Hollywood.

I strongly considered/am considering 28 Days Later because of the current zombie obsession, but that didn't seem to kick off until well after 28 Days Later's release.

If 28 Days Later is eligible I'd knock The Two Towers off to put it in.

If 28 Days Later is eligible I'd knock The Two Towers off to put it in. The Two Towers pioneered motion capture technology. It's too important to knock out.

I really don't see the significance of Minority Report. Its "gritty blockbuster style predicted the Nolan wave in a way, also a freaky number of the technologies in it seem to be coming true.

I haven't read the short story it's based on, but was the technology lifted from there?

I think Bourne needs to be recognized, especially since ultimatum missed the cut.

Bourne definitely influenced a bunch of films after it.

Bourne definitely influenced a bunch of films after it. Did it though? The original Bourne seems like a well made but fairly standard spy movie to me. Supremacy, with its shaky cam, seems like the influential one out of the trilogy to me.

Yeeeeah, I was hoping we wouldn't bring Supremacy up.
Call Bourne ordinary if you'd like, but I seem to remember it leading to many more movies of similar plot and style. And as much as it pains me to say it, it influenced the umpteenth rebirth of James Bond.
