Okay, lets move on then.
Next year:1967
This is said to be one of those turning point years, so lets find out why.

Bonnie and Clyde (No Brainer) The Graduate (No Brainer) The Dirty Dozen (Machismo classic) Point Blank(Some very innovative editing in this one) Sidney Poitier made In the Heat of the Night, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and To Sir, With Love. Pretty sure we should pick one of them to make it. In the Heat of the Night is probably the better movie, but I think Guess Who's Coming to Dinner is probably the bigger symbolic landmark.
BTW, IMDB has The Producers listed as 1967 but it looks like that was just one screening in Pittsburg, opened everywhere else in 1968

Bonnie and Clyde without a doubt. One of the most influential movies ever. The Graduate yes. I agree with Guess Who's Coming to Dinner over In the Heat of the Night.
Drac, can you tell us more about this Pointe Blank movie?

The Graduate Bonnie and Clyde I am curious (yellow) - this started the mainstream porn film craze of the 60s-70s Good Bad and the Ugly - released in Italy on Dec 16th 1966, but relaeased in US 12 months later. If this counts, it should be in. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Honorable Mentions: Wait Until Dark - great movie but I'm not sure if it's important. In the Heat of the Night - Guess Who is the more important Poirier film. Cool Hand Luke - see Wait Until Dark.

1. Bonnie and Clyde: The film code had been pushed and challenged previously, but this obliterated it with a vengeance. The final scene is also all kinds of iconic.
2. The Graduate: Iconic and progressive. Has to be here.
3. Cool Hand Luke: A very entertaining and successful film which is deeper than it seems, one that really spoke to its audience. The film also has one of Paul Newman's most iconic performances and continues to be loved today.
4. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?: Very progressive in its depiction of race relations. There's also something to be said how it's the old generation of acting (Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn) working with the new (Sidney Poiter).
5. Le Samourai: French crime-noir which had a huge influence on a number of films, including: Drive, The American, The Killer, The Driver, and Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.

The Graduate Bonnie and Clyde Guess Who's Coming to Dinner The Dirty Dozen In the Heat of the Night Playtime? Yeah, we should look at Playtime as well. Also, I've always thought of Good Bad as 66

I'm on the fence for Cool Hand Luke. What's your argument for it, Neverending?

If you need someone to explain Cool Hand Luke to you, then your Film Buff license should be revoked.

I wasn't asking for an explanation. I was asking why you view it as one of the top five important movies for the year.

I'm on the fence for Cool Hand Luke. What's your argument for it, Neverending? A wise man once described it as, "A very entertaining and successful film which is deeper than it seems, one that really spoke to its audience. The film also has one of Paul Newman's most iconic performances and continues to be loved today."

If you need someone to explain Cool Hand Luke to you, then your Film Buff license should be revoked. You should really consider dialing back a bit. You're going to find it rare where people ask you nicely for your opinion after a response like that.

Didn't realize Le Samourai was 1967, that should probably get in.

The Graduate Bonnie and Clyde Guess Who's Coming to Dinner The Dirty Dozen In the Heat of the Night Playtime? I like this list, but I would be okay swapping out Heat or Dirty 12 for Point blank or playtime.

Drac and I have also both endorsed Le Samourai. Yeah, I think that movie sort of set the template for the methodical assassin on a mission and set a sort of standard for the cool killer that would be picked up by the likes of John Woo and Quentin Tarantino.

Alright, then I think that this is probably our 5. The major omission is Heat of the Night, but I think most are in agreement that Guess Who takes its spot as the significant Poitier film. Any major objections?
