I think Transformers needs to be considered. No it doesn't.

I think Transformers needs to be considered. It was the defining blockbuster of this era. Until next year with The Dark Knight, as well as Iron Man, which launched the MCU. Transformers may have launched a big series, but it's influence seems to be limited to that. Most of the films which seemed to have tried to imitate it have failed (G.I. Joe, Battleship) and the series very quickly devolved into a joke. These may make money, but virtually no one considers them good. So really, all the first one has going for it is that it was popular and had the somewhat iconic Megan Fox shot over the car. It may have made it in a lesser year, but 2007 has a lot more to offer. Supremacy established the style, but Ultimatum perfected it. Ultimatum is also the one that most people consider the best in the series.

BEE MOVIE - I have teenage siblings who were children in 2007, and surprisingly, Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie is a big deal. It was sort-of ignored at the time, but since then, it has developed a HUGE following. PG Cooper will deny it, probably out of embarrassment for his age-group, but he knows I'm telling the truth. THE BUCKET LIST - First of all, before this movie was released, I never heard anyone refer to a "bucket list." Maybe it's because I was in my 20's during 2007, but that phrase didn't enter my life till the movie came along. And secondly, it is the most rented DVD in Netflix history. That HAS to count for something. Netflix is too important to our generation for the most rented movie to be swept under the rug. GRINDHOUSE - Despite the financial failure of Grindhouse in 2007, it was still an interesting premise. Let's release two movies for the price of one with humorous fake trailers in-between. And the fact that Planet Terror and Death Proof are so different gave people a lot to discuss and debate. The experiment may not have worked but it definitely made an impression and people still bring it up from time-to-time. SPIDER-MAN 3 - Hate it or REALLY hate it, there's no denying that Spider-Man 3 has penetrated pop culture. 7 years later and people still can't stop talking about "emo" Peter Parker and that whole silly section of the movie. I think it's impossible to bring up Spider-Man without some smart-ass eventually bringing Spider-Man 3 into the conversation. SUPERBAD - Like PG Cooper said, it's the Porky's and American Pie for people - specifically males - who were teenagers in 2007. OTHER OPTIONS300 Beowulf The Bourne Ultimatum Enchanted Gone Baby Gone Juno The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters The Mist No Country for Old Men Sunshine Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street There Will Be Blood

300- Perfect marriage of visual narrative and bone crushing action.
Hot Fuzz - Walks the line between parody and homage perfectly.
Sunshine - One the first quality sci-fi to come out in some time.
There Will Be Blood - Because "I drink your milkshake."
Enchanted - It made live action fairytales relatable and marketable again.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days - Really kicked off the Romanian new wave. There Will Be Blood - Showcased the finest acting and directing film has to offer. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Seems to be one of those rare foreign films that's recognized by the academy in major categories that aren't just foreign language, even if it might not have won. Grindhouse - While it was a financial failure, there was really nothing like it on this scale. Enchanted - Feels like it was one of the first films to usher in this new consistently great quality of Disney movies. First film to bring Amy Adams to mainstream audiences.
And please..not Juno.

PG Cooper will never defend me, so I'll jump on the Enchanted boat. Forget I ever mentioned Bee Movie.

Of all the Edgar Wright movies, Hot Fuzz is the one people least care about.

300- you don't get cgi/green screen back drop trend
Sunshine- a rewakening of the grand, beautiful and terrifying space adventure. And the music is used in practically every trailer these days. There will be blood- do I really have to explain
Hot Fuzz- the installment that lands Edgar Wright on Hollywoods radar consistently enough to get, and subsequently lose, Ant Man after years of development, effecting the Marvel Movie timeline and causing the movie from going from anticapated to meer afterthought. Enchanted- four words. "Once Upon a Time".

SUPERBAD - Like PG Cooper said, it's the Porky's and American Pie for people - specifically males - who were teenagers in 2007. 1. I've never heard anyone refer to this film. I don't know how good or bad this is (never seen it) but it's left no impact on anyone I know. 2. Interesting about the Netflix thing, but it seems kind of inconsequential and I'm sure there were other factors that motivated that. 3. It's an interesting film, but it seems to be forgotten for the most part. Tarantino's weakest film (though still good) and Planet Terror is too middle ground for Rodrgiuez to really matter either way. 4. If we didn't include Batman Returns or Batman and Robin, we shouldn't include Spider-Man 3. 5. *High-Five As for some other films people have put forward. 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days: I can see it. Probably still the biggest film out of Romania and it speaks on a very relevant debate. 300: I like it, but it seems to be playing in the same ballpark as Sin City, which would be a better representation of this kind of style. Sunshine: Great film, but I don't think anyone outside of people on forums and other sites really care about this film that much. Enchanted: ...I guess I can see it, but I think there are better choices. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly: Great movie, but it didn't set a precedent and it hasn't been that influential going forward.

But Sin City is the film that got the ball rolling for the "extensive green screen to literally recreate a comic book" type films. 300 might be bigger, but it's building on Sin City's foundation.

Yeah that's true, but then we are both making the opposite arguments for the Bourne films.

I agree wiht you on Sunshine PG. But I think 300 is a far bigger film than Sin City. I would argue that the "super-stylized and noticably green screened comic book movie" was a pretty short-lived fad in the grand scheme of things so I don't know how important either film was really. If we were going to include one I would point toward Sin City.
