I'd be open to dropping Slacker for Thelma and Louise. Why? You guys fought to the teeth for Before Sunset, when Slacker is probably Linkletter's most influential film. Before Sunset has been more heavily copied and is more representative of Linklater's work. Slacker is... well I admire the moxy in making it but it didn't do much for me when I watched it and I don't know that many other movies like it have been made in its wake.

as far as micro-budget indie inspirations go, we already have El Mariachi and Clerks. Clerks wouldn't exist without Slackers.

My Own Private Idaho should be in, it was an important representative of the New Queer Cinema and Gus Van Sant should be represented. We already have Lion King in to represent the Disney Renaissance, let's ditch B&TB.

Nothing But Trouble - first film appearance for Tupac
My Girl - taught a generation to stay away from bees.
Highlander II: The Quickening - never happened
Cool as Ice - taught a generation to drop the zero, get with the hero
Hudson Hawk - seamless blend of comedy, action, live action looney tunes

We already have Lion King in to represent the Disney Renaissance, let's ditch B&TB. B&tB is the better film. It has the feel of a real theatrical musical, much better art, and story and songs. Plus it was FIRST in the Renaissance of Disney animation great films It's not a matter of representing, it's a matter of importance

The Silence of the Lambs Terminator 2 Boyz N the Hood Thelma & Louise Point Break
N.B. I loved Hudson Hawk when I was 11/12 years old, used to watch it all the time.

My serious four would be for
The Silence of the Lambs Terminator 2 Boyz N the Hood Thelma & Louise
Torn between Slacker or Red Lantern for the last one.

The Silence of the Lambs Terminator 2: Judgment Day Boyz N the Hood Raise the Red Lantern Thelma & Louise
Boyz N the Hood is a decent movie, but I'm leaving off much better for it like Slacker. And John Singleton's filmmaking career afterwards would prove me to be correct on that, but it's definitely an important film and has to be on there.

Wewll it looks like Silence of the Lambs and T2 are locks. Boyz and Themla are in also.
Last place is between Beauty and Beast, Slacker, Red Lantern (what is this one by the way?), and Idaho.
Thoughts? Arguments?

I suppose The Lion King can stand as the representative of the Disney Renaissance. Beauty and the Beast may have got the Oscar nom, but The Lion King has stood as the most iconic film of the era. I guess I'd go with My Own Private Idaho as one of the films at the forefront of the New Queer Cinema and for having some of the most significant breakthrough.

Little Mermaid probably should have gotten in over The Abyss.

My ranking of the remaining options would be:
1. My Own Private Idaho: An important film in the New Queer Cinema and a representative of Gus Van Sant on the list.
2. Raise the Red Lantern: A great representative of the Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmaking
3. Beauty and the Beast: If you must keep giving slots to Disney movies
4. Slacker: Need to revisit this thing, really didn't get much out of it the last time I saw it.

Reading up on the options, My Own Private Idaho does sound the most important legacy wise.
