Terminator, The Ghostbusters This is Spinal Tap Stranger Than Paradise Gremlins I considered Gremlins for creating the "small monsters terrorizing" genre but thought that was a little too small a legacy. However if we need a representation for the coming of PG-13 then I'll drop Nightmare. |

Temple of Doom lit the PG13 fire two weeks before Gremlins, just saying True, but that's basically Temple's only claim to importance. Gremlins also inspired it's own sub-genre and, as Drac pointed out, is a pretty famous example of how to make a film with that kind of tone. Plus, we already have Raiders. |

I had it ahead of Gremlins at first, but Drac's argument swayed me. Famous as it is, I think Halloween can stand in for the slasher movie craze and we also have Scream listed already.
