Good work. I like how you chose that scene instead of the over-analyzed restaurant scene. This scene was always one of my favourites of the film.

Thank you The scene really jumped out at me on a recent viewing. People tend to characterize directors by the big scenes but I remember marveling at how strongly Coppola was able to express character in a deceptively simple exposition scene.

I will receive flak for this.
From my boy Cooper, especially.
Confession: I didn't check the title of the essay. But I was gonna watch it anyway (cus I got chu).
Second confession and initial realisation: I ain't ever seen any of The Godfathers. I know.
Yes, I KNOW.
Deflect your disdain from me now, for I know the burden that I carry.
And carry it I shall, until the time cometh.
Mayhap that time draws near... I plead it is so.
For now, Cooper, Dear Cooper! I cannot consume your latest creation.
But I will click and afford thee a view nonetheless.
If anything, this has given me the motivation I need to finally commit.
My apologies, my liege.
And to all ComingSoon patrons.
I have failed you.
(Also, I've never seen 2001. Best to get it all out now.)

(Also, I've never seen 2001. Best to get it all out now.) That was moving. I did know you hadn't seen The Godfather (and 2001 for that matter). I admire your adherence to avoiding spoilers (and I also appreciate the view all the same). Hopefully when you do see the film, my video will be of worth to you. Alternatively, it would also be pretty funny if, after seeing the film, you thought my video was shit and completely disagreed with my argument. Time will tell I suppose.

If 'shit' is my final judgement, so be it.
Definitely won't be. Just a hunch.

Can we request videos for you to do? Or can you throw out some topics and we can vote on which one you'll do next?

I don't mean that to sound rude or condescending, I just wanna make sure I have something of interest to say. I can also say that my next video will revolve around a Kubrick film (I'll keep which one a secret to make things interesting). It's a video I've wanted to make since before I even started making videos, but I wanted to build up my skills a bit before tackling it. It's another theme analysis like The Graduate but the topic is a little more broad and the video will go beyond just the individual film. But yeah, I do want to turn things to all of you. Are there any video topics you'd like to see? Neverending has suggested a few, but I suspect they were somewhat in jest.

You could do a theme breakdown of emotion vs. cold logic in the Maltese Falcon.

Unless he's suddenly upped his scores for them...nah, I'm good. I like the first one. A video essay on Stephen King adaptations. With the disaster of Dark Tower and the potential success of It, it's a timely topic.

Nice essay. I find Barry Lyndon to be a masterpiece for several reasons, most notably its cinematography and Kubrick's writing. But I did enjoy Barry Lyndon the character as well. I thought it was a lot of fun watching him worm his way up through the ranks of society. Like you mention, he doesn't catapult himself to grandeur by means of typical protagonists of epics. He doesn't kill a tyrant, wasn't born into nobility, didn't free an enslaved group of people. He's just a selfish jerk who feels slighted by the nobility he aches to join. I've always felt that the notion of a character needing to be likable or relatable is complete nonsense perpetuated by viewers who constantly need someone to root for in a film. But you make a good point displaying the protagonists of A Clockwork Orange and The Shining, who are not relatable but are likable despite their horrible actions because of the charm and fun they exude while doing so. Good work Coop. I'll go back and watch your old essays too.

Can't wait for the Eyes Wide Shut video essay. I do have a somewhat interesting idea about Eyes Wide Shut that I could maybe do, but I'd need to rewatch the movie to flesh it out. Nice essay. Good work Coop. I'll go back and watch your old essays too. Thanks, Sno. I appreciate that The stuff about protagonists is something I actually think about often, why some hateful people are endlessly watchable and others are less so. If I hadn't been able to explore Lyndon I might have made a specific video just on what makes a protagonist engaging.

You have shown how it is genre-defying, but I can't help but think: so what? Simply defying genre convention doesn't necessarily make an interesting movie.
Once again, good analysis.
