On the old site we have a thread for podcast recommendations, but I dont think it got carried over. So here it is.
I wanna throw two out there right now. If you are a history buff check out Hardcore History. The older episodes aren't available unless you want to pay for there, but there's about 10 or so still available for free download. They're awesome. Start with the series on Genghis Khan.
Another I just discovered is called Lore. Its a short podcast, about 20 minutes, which tells spooky stories from history.

I've heard of Hardcore History. I was really interested in the Punic War episodes until I found out I had to pay for them. Lore sounds awesome.

I remember in previous board that Film Junk Podcast was mentioned. It is a great podcast and listen to it every week. Another podcast thats worth mentioning is The Best Show with Tom Scharpling. Random callers call in to Tom and some can be quite funny and entertaining. Ill provide links to both below. Film Junk PodcastAnd Best Show with Tom Scharpling

Film Junk is starting to lose me. It feels like they are just trying to stretch out their episodes as long as possible without having content enough to do so. Also, Jay's arguing is getting annoying. That Krampus bs almost killed it for me.

So, what's everyone listening to now?
There's a few that I listen to religiously: Lore (stories of the paranormal, unsolved mysteries, etc--really recommend this one), The Partially Examined Life (accessible philosophy), WTF with Marc Maron, Welcome to Night Vale (told in a newscast format; the love-child of X-Files, The Twilight Zone, and Stranger Things).

I've mostly been sticking to the stalwarts
For movies I listen to Battleship Pretension, Fighting in the War Room, Film Junk, The /Filmcast, Filmspotting, Filmspotting: SVU, Mark Kermode Podcast, The Next Picture Show, and Silver Screen Snobs.
Plus a few other ones about current events and other stuff: Fareed Zakaria GPS, Hardcore History, On the Media, The Giant Bombcast, Reliable Sources, This American Life, and Serial
I listen to podcasts and audiobooks on headphones more or less all day at work so I can afford to have a large rotation of stuff to listen to though I tend to intentionally keep a few weeks behind on the movie podcasts so I have time to see stuff before I wade into the conversations about stuff.

I just started listening to Night Vale, its rather funny.
Thinking Sideways is one which analyses a bunch of unsolved mysteries, I like like it. I also listen to Startalk for my science fix, but after a while you realize they talk about the same things a lot of the time.
For movies, I've started listening to F This Movie, which is really really good. The hosts are insightful without being snobs.
I've also been listening to The X-Files Files with Danesh from Silicon Valley.

So I'm 5 episodes into Lore
Is this guy's voice always this grating? I like the stories and storytelling, but can't stand his voice.
It's supplanted Dan Carlin's pronunciation of "again" as most grating to my ears currently.

I bit the bullet and downloaded/paid for some old Dan Carlin episodes, but I can't open in Stitcher.
Any recommendations for mp3 players for Android, built for podcasts? I zone out from time to time and really enjoy the 30 second rewind feature of Stitcher for that.

IanTheCool JibbsThere's also a new podcast out by the Ringer called Binge Mode. They're rewatching and discussing all Game of Thrones episodes from the beginning, with the benefit of seeing all of them to date, and reading all the books and side material. They just dropped Season 1 last Monday and will release Season 2 tomorrow. I recommend it for commutes.

Give it 2-3 episodes, a half hour each, and let me know what you think.

What are some good film-related podcasts out there that people would recommend? I'm looking to start listening to more podcasts and the topic I figure I'm most likely to gravitate to is movies. I tried out Filmspotting a few years ago but only made it through a couple because I quickly found the hosts irritating after a while. I'm currently going through How Did This Get Made?, which is really entertaining, but I need to balance it out with other podcasts that aren't just about either bad movies or so-bad-they're-good movies.
Anybody have suggestions?

I've been on the WWI section for a while, it's deep and I gotta be in the mood to sit and listen but it's really good. I always had kind of a gripe that American students don't spend a whole lot of time learning about The Great War (I hear there's a much greater focus in Great Britain) and this podcast is great to use as an introduction at least.

Also, if anyone likes comedy Norm MacDonald just started doing new episodes of his podcast. He has all sorts of guest comedians he interviews, some funnier than others but the funny ones are really good.
Also, one of his sponsors his first season was the Mangrate. They cancelled their sponsorship because he continuously made fun of the product on air.

Sometimes they focus on horror films more than I like, but otherwise they have good insights. its the same host but a different cohost every week, from a recurring cast.

I downloaded it intending it to listen to it later and am now listening to it all over again.
