we could likely move backwards No one seems to care anymore. Numbers are spiking and no one’s noticing. We’re re-opening, my man.

No idea on the rest of the stuff, but this would piss me off. "Yeah there's some kids taking a night class, so the 15 MPH is intact." Fuck that, if we had to show up to school early as fuck in the morning these shitty Tik Tok loving kids are going to also.

I kinda doubt that a bunch of Republicans who are up for re-election are going to have any interest in being tied to a bill that defunds education. Most of the GOP are trying to distance themselves from Trump at the moment. Trump thinks colleges are full of liberal professors because they teach students about real facts, and as we all know, reality has a strong liberal bias!

I noticed, but it's hard to stay angry at someone who not only winds up marrying the boy, but stayed together until just last year. She did her time and got on with her life.

My childhood town FB pages are all up in arms. This will be how states approach COVID vaccine, in order to return to school. Prepare yourselves to know that america is much dumber than you already think.

I just listened to a podcast the other day in which someone was lamenting the fact that laser effects are no longer an option available for school pictures. Clearly, they were still an option a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

While she's not wrong, it still bugs the hell out of me. All sorts of options to get student loans forgiven began popping up as soon as I finally managed to pay mine off. Twenty years of harassing phone calls, nastygrams and confiscated tax refunds. Nobody should have to live that way, but since I did, how about a little something for my troubles if you're handing out money?

At the end of the day though it will likely provide a strong boost to the economy since the newly debt free freeloaders will now be able to buy a bunch of stuff and that will hopefully be a good thing for all of us. Would prefer if they found a more equitable and fair way to do it, but the Republican bastards are probably going to have an easier time blocking a lot of the rest of those.

We should be investing in trade schools. Pointless to waste 4 years of college and then there’s no jobs waiting for you. You work at WB/Disney. Whatever happened to “starting at the mail room” and working your way up? There needs to be more incentive for on the job training and trade schools affiliated with certain industries.

In film and tv being a production assistant is basically the 'mail room job.' Many or most PAs have degrees but it's certainly not necessary, everything is on the job training. I think you'll see a lot of companies start doing this more and more, hiring people as interns or temps straight out of high school or community college to learn the trade rather than just looking for a BA and hoping it works out.

I think you'll see a lot of companies start doing this more and more, hiring people as interns or temps straight out of high school or community college to learn the trade rather than just looking for a BA and hoping it works out. The Brothers Warner has spent the last month hosting word-of-mouth screenings for In the Heights. They target the drama/music/dance departments of high schools and colleges. You don’t need a 4-year marketing degree to rent out a movie theatre auditorium, put together a screening and create “social media buzz.” And on the flip side, you don’t need a 4-year business degree to be an exhibitor/booker/programmer and create a relationship with the studios that would make your location(s) a desirable place to host special event screenings. These are all skills you can learn through on the job training. So instead of forcing college on people, the government can create incentives for businesses to have career development programs for young people.

A lot of this has a certain "old man yells at cloud" vibe, but I do agree with what I think is the core point here: that colleges/universities operate as a business. Inflating tuition costs (which is also an issue in Canada despite our rates on average being much lower) is the most obvious thing, but textbook companies also buy into the grift. That students pay for a course and are then expected to pay hundreds of dollars for the mandatory course readings is an absurd con that's just accepted as normal.

I graduated in 2007 and while you could hopefully obtain used textbooks online back then it wasn't what it is today. I usually was forced to buy the $400 textbook I barely had to use over the course of the semester just so I could sell it back to the bookstore for $30. It's an insane racket.
