I was the definition of a student who could have done better in school but didn't work nearly as hard as he should have. Most of the reason was because I refused to do 2-3 hours (or more) of homework a night. Are you saying that if I study for 8 hours a week when I get home on any particular subject I'll get an A but if I do a fraction of that I'll get a B? Shit, give me the B. I don't mean that was the right thing to do, that was just my logic. I think more and more people are latching onto the idea that some homework is okay, mountains of homework is useless.
On that topic, I also hated summer reading. For every book I read that I thought was halfway decent there were 6 that I thought sucked. Not only that, you strip the joy of reading from tons of otherwise curious students who have a thousand other things that could occupy their time, then we hear these teachers complain that 'kids don't read as much anymore' and act completely shocked. GTFO.

I was barely a C student in high school. I didn't have good studying skills until I took a course on it in College. Part of my problem was procrastinating, and another was looking out the window and daydreaming (I got sent to the principal's office in third grade for that one). My best classes were usually chorus and band (I made it to the All State Chorus 3 out of 4 times and played coronet in band and jazz band). I was also in all the school plays and musicals, and kept score for sports. I did get good marks in Spanish I had a failing grade in Chemistry, and needed an A on the final to pass - I stayed up and studied the night before the final and aced the test

What Drac said, but 40 years is an absurd sentence for that crime if they decided to go for it.

Nobody is going to prison over this. Some kids will get kicked out of school, some school faculty members will lose their jobs, some parents will pay fines that won't put a dent in their bank accounts, some lawyers will make a lot of money, Hulu and Netflix will produce competing documentaries, and that will be the end of it.

Been 20 years since Columbine. Anyone have thoughts they wanna share? Memories? Sadly, there have been so many mass shootings at schools over the past couple of decades that they all tend to blur together. I'm just glad that most of these incidents haven't been worse that they were. I remember not liking going to math in High School because of the way the math building was set up. It was basically a kill box for any lunatic armed with a high powered rifle and a large magazine.

Been 20 years since Columbine. Anyone have thoughts they wanna share? Memories? At some point over the last week, I heard one of the news outlets describe Columbine as "the day the changed everything." The only thing that really changed is how commonplace mass shootings have become over the past 20 years and how okay with it we've become as a society. Is that the change we wanted?

I was a Freshman in HS, and it's the first major shooting I remember.
Not as bizarre as 9/11 senior year, but close
