Thought I'd move this to its own thread so people can make their own nominations if you wish.
I'd like to nominate two cops for Asshat of the Year
Reserve Deputy Robert Bates who is 73 (along with the officials who let him play cop) and used his gun instead of his taser on a perp who was already on the ground being subdued by several regular officers.
And Officer Michael Slager, 33, who was charged with murder Tuesday evening. He was caught on camera gunning down 50-year-old Walter Scott after stopping him for a broken taillight Saturday. Scott was running away at the time despite the claim from Slager that he had grabbed his taser and he feared for his life. Slager is apparently seen on film picking up the taser and dropping it next to the body to support his story.
Also defendant Shayna Hubers who is on trial for the 2012 murder of her boyfriend. Although the incident took place years ago, she really did not set herself up in a defensible position for trial during her 911 phone call or interrogation by police. She claimed to have snatched his gun away from him while he was sitting down and shot him in the face. She said she was in fear for her life at the time and shot him in self defense. She then told the police she shot him again while he was on the floor "because he was still twitching" - she ended up shooting him 5 times in the face. The 911 operator asked her, "instead of shooting him again why didn't you dial 911 then when he was still alive?" "She replied, "Do what?" She also joked with the police that he wanted a nose job, so she gave him one. He was attempting to break up with her when the incident happened.
Which brings us to Jodie Arias' sentencing hearing - she spent half of it still defending her actions and saying how she didn't want a trial, but the family would not agree to two plea deals (which would have left Arias serving a much shorter sentence) so they forced it to go to trial - after blaming the family for the trial she had the nerve to tell the court she DOES remember the moment she slit Travis Alexander's throat and that he was still alive after the more than 20 stab wounds and shot to the face (which she said she did first) - funny how she "couldn't remember" those details when she testified in the trial (yeah).
I also nominate Texas Veterinarian Kristen Lindsey - She posted a selfie on Facebook bragging about shooting a "feral cat" through the head with a bow and arrow and killing it. The entry showed her holding up the arrow with the dead cat dangling off the end of it by the head - her caption: "My first bow kill, lol. The only good feral tomcat is one with an arrow through it's head! Vet of the year award ... Gladly accepted." The cat she shot was roaming around her neighborhood and was later identified as someone's house pet - a 6 year old tabby named Tiger. Lindsey also wasn't aware that she'd be fired on Friday. After the photo went viral, she reportedly posted to Facebook, "No I did not lose my job. Lol. Psshh. Like someone would get rid of me. I’m awesome!" Unclear if criminal charges will be leveled at her but I hope so - the owners have set up a site named Justice for Tiger.

The Last one is just disgusting. But there is a saying in my family if you can kill an animal without showing respect for the animal life then you can kill a human. What I mean is this people who shoot deer and leave it on the ground or people who purpose try to run down a dog cat or any animal on the road.

California Superior Court Judge M. Marc Kelly for trying to give Kevin Rojano-Nieto 10 years in prison instead of the mandatory 25 years because he considered it cruel and unusual punishment. Kevin Rojano-Nieto's crime? Sodomizing a three year old girl and holding her silent in his garage while her mother called out looking for her. Judge Kelly stated that "Sodomy of a 3-year-old child is a horrific crime, and imposition of harsh punishment will ordinarily not give rise to constitutional concerns," he said. "However, in looking at the facts of Mr. Rojano's case, the manner in which this offense was committed is not typical of a predatory, violent brutal sodomy of a child case." Kelly said the defendant "did not seek out or stalk (the victim)," and that he "inexplicably became sexually aroused but did not appear to consciously intend to harm (the victim) when he sexually assaulted her."
The case is being looked at for review by officials

Its proves Judges are idiots. Who gives a shit the intent the poor child was 3. Too me there is no greater crime then Crimes against Children and Abuse against Women. Sometimes as a Judge you gotta give someone the harshest penalty even if its not exactly known intent.

Popeyes Restaurant in Channelview, Texas receives the next nomination. The manager fired pregnant employee Marissa Holcomb after she was held at gunpoint late last month in an armed robbery. There was apparently about $400 in the register that the robber got away with and the manager told Holcomb she would have to reimburse the restaurant for the money stolen or be fired. Keeping that much in the register is against company policy but it was a busy day, and Holcomb refused to pay it after being terrorized with a gun in her face. There was a Gofundme page supporters put up for her that unfortunately was taken down - Holcomb, who's firing came at a very bad time, continues to look for a new job every day

The manager comped her for a free burger so she came back later and they once again forgot the bacon on her burger - so she pulled a gun out and started to shoot up the building - police got her phone number from the manager and arrested her at home.
Judge Dorothy Vaccaro and two psychologists for releasing Michael Shepard a sexual predator pedophile who spent 15 years in prison for molesting two little boys and one little girl. One of the psychologists was against the release but waffled in court on the topic, and the other stated she did not believe that he would re-offend. So Shepard was set free - he lied to his neighbors about what sent him to prison and got access to their children - baby sitting and so on - and now after only year and a half free, is up on fourteen more charges of molestation of children. There's justice for ya.

The as of yet unnamed caregivers of 82-year-old Barbara Beam of Greenville , S.C. who left her unattended in a chair for six months, until she died. Beam lived with her sister and nephew. The sister told police that Beam refused to eat a few hours before her death and they watched a soap opera together in her bedroom before she went to the kitchen. When she returned, Beam was slumped in her chair and the sister and nephew could find no pulse, police said. Beam died from a blood clot in her lung. She also had deep vein thrombosis, which are clots caused by sitting for long periods of time, and a serious infection that started in her kidneys, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office.
I bet they had no problem continuing to cash her Social Security checks for those six months - that's my guess. Horrible people.

Triple nominees
Elvis Rhodes, 55,Christopher Rhodes, 28, and (to a lesser extent) Elaina Rhodes, 34 - Elvis took two beers from a porch cooler at his son and daughter in law's and they got into an argument over it. Elvis them walked to the store to buy two beers to replace the ones he took, but when he got back, found they locked their door and would not let him into their house - so Elvis went and got his pickaxe to rip the door down, and Christopher responded with a shotgun - forcing Elvis to retreat and go call police. Elvis Rhodes was arrested for burglary and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Hooray Beer!
Darwin Award
Hunter Ian Gibson while tracking an elephant for a rich client, he approached to measure the ivory tusks and was promptly trampled to death by the animal he was hunting.
Group nominees
looters of 2015 - people who use peaceful protests as an excuse to go crazy and damage and steal property of those who are innocent of any wrong doing. And specifically those who disrupt the daily business of public services like the storming of the police department.

Next nominee (man, they're coming fast and furious)
American Freedom Defense Initiative founded by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer - a bunch of paranoid asshats who call themselves a "human rights organization dedicated to free speech, religious liberty and individual rights."
They were stupid enough to hold an event which included cartoons of Mohammad - everyone by now knows that to draw an image of the prophet, even a respectful one, is blasphemy in Islamic religion. They baited and provoked extremists to react on purpose like the idiots they are. If they didn't get a Darwin Award for stupidity this time, they at least deserve an asshat nomination.

Another cop who needs to be fired...
Undercover Officer Philippe Archer was caught on tape in 2013 arresting a drunken belligerent model Megan Adamescu, who was too drunk to produce her identification, and started hurling racial epithets at the black officer for going through her purse to find out who she was. Andrew Mossberg, a passerby, thought he was witnessing a mugging, called 911 and stepped in to intervene and ended up with a swollen face for his troubles - meanwhile, in the middle of this distraction, Miss Adamescu gave the officer a weak little drunken kick in the leg. Officer Archer responded by Giving the handcuffed woman a right hook to the face followed by a left kick very close to her face - leaving her with a black eye and a concussion.
This officer has a history of altercations and leaving suspects with various bruises, but all he's gotten so far is an unpaid suspension for four weeks - and he only has to serve that over several months two days at a time. Mossberg and Adamescu are set to sue the city of Miami Beach - this officer has already cost the city $60,000 from a previous lawsuit where he beat someone up on the job.
Archer is appealing the suspension calling it "unfair and inappropriate"
Pull the other one Archer you jerk

This is a great thread, my money is still on the lady who shot up a McDonalds for not putting bacon on her burger. Though to be fair, they did it twice and didn't even offer her a McRib.

66 year old Sylvia Driskell filed a lawsuit on May 1 with U.S. District Court of Omaha, and in a handwritten, 7-page document she lists herself as the “ambassador” for the plaintiffs “God and his son, Jesus Christ.” The defendants are listed as simply “homosexuals” – presumably, every single one of them – which would make for quite a full courtroom. She is suing all gay people, because she thinks homosexuality is a sin, and she wants the law to finally acknowledge it. Who wants to bet that'll get tossed out of court. Court time is wasted enough without stuff like this

Someone who clearly has his head jammed up his own ass
Brandon Hoffman, 20, was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault and other offenses in the death of 18-month-old Bryson Shoemaker.
Police said Hoffman was performing wrestler The Undertaker's "The Last Ride" move at his Jersey Shore apartment Tuesday and had intended for Bryson to land on a bed. In the move, depicted in many online videos, the wrestler gets the opponent on his shoulders in a sort of reverse piggyback, then throws him to the ground.
He had earlier performed another wrestling move that also involved dropping Bryson onto the bed, authorities said.
Hoffman told investigators he tried performing CPR and took Bryson to the hospital instead of calling 911 because he feared getting in trouble.
What kind of idiot puts wrestling moves on an 18 month old? He must be a special kind of stupid if that's the real story behind the injuries

This is one sick puppy
Texas State Representative Matthew Ray Schaefer
In April 2015, Schaefer authored a bill that would require pregnant women who are 20 weeks pregnant to carry the embryo to full term even in the case of severe and fatal birth defects. This includes any fetus that is deceased, which in many cases would also lead to the death of the woman carrying the fetus. When asked specifically about policies that would only promote suffering, Schaefer replied, "That's part of the human condition, when sin entered the world, and it grieves us all."
And here's a politician who said (Along with 37 others) use dishonesty to your advantage
Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker who, when he was a Representative in 1997, introduced AB 538
According to the bill’s text:
This bill creates an immunity from a wrongful birth or wrongful life action for a person who commits an act or fails to commit an act and that act or omission results in the birth of a child because a woman did not undergo an abortion that she would have undergone had the person not committed the act or not failed to commit the act.
In other words, the bill would make it legal for pro-life doctors to withhold information from patients. Walker and 28 colleagues tried again in 2001, re-introducing the same legislation with AB 360.
I don't know about you all, but I want to hear the truth from my doctor.

Now steering away from politics and back to the lighter side of Asshattery... I nominate David Menzies. David went on a test ride with a new jeep - more like a joy ride because he wasn't planning on taking it back to the dealership. David had the bright idea of using it to smash and grab a bunch of stuff from a sports shop he'd cased earlier. He smashed out the front glass and began loading bicycles and sports clothing into the jeep when the business owner next door came to see what the commotion was about. When David scoped out the store acting like a customer the previous week, he wasn't really paying attention - next door was a place called Hammerfist Krav Maga - maybe he thought it was an exotic restaurant or something - nope. Hammerfist Krav Maga happened to be a dojo - the entire self defense class held poor David until the police came to rescue him from his own stupidity.

Former Korean Air Lines executive Heather Cho - the Daughter of the Chairman of Korean Airlines had nut rage when she forced an entire A380 jumbo jet (approved to carry as many as 850 people) to turn around and go back to the gate at John F. Kennedy Airport in NY.
The reason: She wanted to expel the Crew Chief because she was handed a bag of Macadamia nuts instead of a bowl of Macadamia nuts while sitting in first class.
She was sentenced to a year in prison in a Korean court for her disruption, and spent 5 months in there until an appeals court reduced the sentence to 10 months suspended.
+++++++++
Don't know, but I'm tempted to add the Duggars. Michelle made a robo call message while there was a vote about the Arkansas Anti-Discrimination Bill. The bill was designed to handle complaints from Fayetteville residents who have suffered discrimination pertaining to housing, employment, and other public accommodations
Her message (targeted against transgender people) said: "Hello, this is Michelle Duggar. I’m calling to inform you of some shocking news that would affect the safety of Northwest Arkansas women and children. The Fayetteville City Council is voting on an ordinance this Tuesday night that would allow men – yes, I said men – to use women's and girls' restrooms, locker rooms, showers, sleeping areas and other areas that are designated for females only. I don’t believe the citizens of Fayetteville would want males with past child predator convictions that claim they are female to have a legal right to enter private areas that are reserved for women and girls. I doubt that Fayetteville parents would stand for a law that would endanger their daughters or allow them to be traumatized by a man joining them in their private space. We should never place the preference of an adult over the safety and innocence of a child. Parents, who do you want undressing next to your daughter at the public swimming pool’s private changing area?"
All this while their own son had violated 5 girls (which they hid from law enforcement).
