Okay, PG Cooper. Let's say it's 1984 and the director's cut of Once Upon a Time in America is released in the United States and is a success and gets nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Are you rooting for it or are you still in favor of Amadeus, the movie that did actually win Best Picture? And why. |

Okay, PG Cooper. Let's say it's 1984 and the director's cut of Once Upon a Time in America is released in the United States and is a success and gets nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Are you rooting for it or are you still in favor of Amadeus, the movie that did actually win Best Picture? And why. I mean, my write in vote would be for This is Spinal Tap, but between OUATIA and Amadeus, I'm going with Leone. Amadeus is fantastic and one of the better Best Picture winners of the 1980s (and maybe ever), but I just love the epic sweep and narrative of Once Upon a Time in America. Plus, its self-reflective genre critique that I've yammered on about is really rewarding. Granted, I haven't seen Amadeus since high school, whereas I've studied Once Upon a Time in America in-depth so I probably owe the former a revisit. Plus I often am biased towards movies I've made videos on and given OUATIA is at the cusp of being my most successful video that's probably weighing in its favor. |

Amadeus still extremely watchable. Had it on a few months ago and just got lost on what I was doing and boom 3 hours were gone.

There are a lot of great gangster movies, but not many great classical composer games. Also there isn't a bunch of weird uncomfortable rape stuff in Amadeus.
