Someone needs to stop this guy. I mean really, there are struggling filmmakers out there with good ideas and people are still giving Kevin Smith money.

I truly hope this is the nail in his filmmaking coffin. Dude sucks, has for a long time. Some people have questioned Kevin Smith's sanity. Why didn't he just make the Canadian Clerks? Why is he making Teenage Girls vs Canadian Nazi's? WTF is he smoking? Speaking of which, and Doomsday can add to this since he listens to Kevin Smith on the radio, but rumor has it that Seth Rogen ruined Kevin Smith. Rogen got him hooked on the good weed during Zack & Miri and he hasn't been the same since then.

Hmmm, interesting. He constantly talks about being high but I never heard the Seth Rogen story. Frankly it wouldn't surprise me, I mean look at his movies post-Zack and Miri vs. pre-Zack and Miri.

Hmmm, interesting. He constantly talks about being high but I never heard the Seth Rogen story. Frankly it wouldn't surprise me, I mean look at his movies post-Zack and Miri vs. pre-Zack and Miri. He followed Zack & Miri with Cop Out, a studio comedy. Looking back, he should have stuck to that. The right script may have come along. Then he did Red State, which he tried to get made with the Weinstein's for a number of years. I remember hearing about Red State as far back as 2006. I think he wanted Red State to be his follow up to Clerks II. After Red State, that's definitely when his career took a nose dive. He mostly does podcasts and his movie choices are questionable at best. I think what really happened is that Kevin Smith tried to go indie and it didn't work. His career with the Weinstein's was very stable and Warner Bros. were happy with Cop Out. But Red State was just... a mistake. It was all hype and quickly vanished as soon as people saw it. He has never been able to recover and probably burned a few bridges thanks to all the shit talking he does in his Q & A specials. That was tolerated while Harvey Weinstein paid the bills, but as soon as he talked shit about Bruce Willis, I'm sure Warner Bros stopped returning his phone calls.

So the key is for Kevin Smith to smoke crappy weed? As far as I know, he was a casual user before meeting Seth Rogen. I doubt Jason Mewes has A-list drug dealers. He probably gets the same shit high schoolers smoke. But after Rogen, Smith has become a frequent pot smoker and that decreases his productivity. He rather talk shit on a podcast than spend 14 hours on a movie set.

Hell, he could use some weed to help with the creative element. This new film by him is just pathetic. If he doesn't have any heart for filmmaking anymore, then don't make any. Simple as that. Like Doomsday said, there's plenty of aspiring filmmakers out there with way better ideas than Kevin Smith. Step aside so we can see those movies, no one cares about Kevin Smith anymore.

Like I said, in hindsight, Cop Out may have been the best thing that ever happened to him. Studio film. He didn't write the script. Mid budget. Did okay at the box office. Is constantly on cable TV - meaning good royalties if he was smart enough to get it on his contract. But he had to talk shit about Bruce Willis. No major studio is gonna tolerate that. He could have spent the last 6 years on Warner Bros' payroll and a few New Line comedies. That would have been better than the shit he's doing now.

I thought he loved Bruce Willis. That was during the making of Die Hard 4, which he just acted in. Willis liked Smith too. They're both Jersey guys. But during Cop Out, it was obvious that Smith, despite 15 years in the business, was a total amateur. He was letting the DP make all the decisions. Willis got mad because he wanted an authority figure, not someone shit talking with Tracy Morgan and Sean William Scott all day long. So Willis called him out on set, which may not have been totally professional. The movie wasn't suffering. They could have discussed any issues in private. But since Willis made a scene in front of the crew, Smith used it as an excuse to call him an asshole in one of his Q and A special and turn it into a bit - similar to his Jon Peters and Prince stories, but it just didn't fly. It wasn't really that funny and I'm sure Willis complained about it to Warner Bros.

Well I don't blame Willis for that at all. As a director, you need to be calling the shots and have the answer to every question. That's why they get paid the big bucks and get the glory. Smith knows better than that (or should) and instead of badmouthing Willis should hold himself accountable for screwing around and not being a leader on set. I'm 100% on Willis' side, even him calling out Smith in front of everyone. If Willis noticed, you know the rest of the crew did as well. That story actually makes me respect Kevin Smith even less.

Clerks III is no longer happening, and is unlikely to ever happen according to KS today in his Fatman on Batman podcast/YouTube series. The Mallrats TV series that was in the works is also being set aside. He is instead looking to make another Jay & Silent Bob movie at some point.
