All I've seen is the Director's Cut and I think it's brilliant. Olrando Bloom is kind of lame but otherwise that movie is awesome.

Interesting, the theatrical cut was so bad it's amazing to think a different cut could be so drastically better. I'll have to give it a shot.

The DC is really good. Just for the record, I didn't like the theatrical cut at all. If that helps you.

And is everyone rating "Kingdom of Heaven" based on the Director's Cut? I'm the only one with a bad score for it, and I've only seen the theatrical so maybe the director's cut is worth viewing after all. My rating was based on the director's cut, but I don't hate the theatrical version the way some people do. It's been a very long time since I saw it, but I did like it at the time.

I saw the theatrical cut on DVD when it came out and was very excited for it and remember being disappointed, haven't seen it since. Guess I'll have to give it a shot.

I really need to rewatch The Gold Rush. It was the first Chaplin film I saw and wasn't really accustomed to silent films.

The more I reflect on The Gold Rush, the more I like it. Same here, it's one I need to revisit because I think I'd enjoy it even more. That cabin scene where the guy imagines him as the chicken or whatever is hilarious and wildly ahead of its time.

For me, City Lights takes a hit for the most sappy ending of all time.

I'm a little behind but this:
Blade Runner (1982) - 9.5/10 Alien (1979) - 9/10 Gladiator (2000) - 9/10 Legend (1985) - 8/10 Thelma & Louise (1991) - 8/10 Hannibal (2001) - 7.5/10 Prometheus (2012) - 7/10 Matchstick Men (2003) - 7/10 Robin Hood (2010) 6.5/10
He may have had hits and misses but those hits will be remembered in film lore for as long as recorded time:
"Like tears in the rain."
"I will see you again."

I have no comment on Chaplin, except to say that the fact that he parodied Hitler with this fake moustache makes his a god of comedy by default.
And RDJ in 'Chaplin' is truly incredible.

Time for another classic autuer, Mr. Jean Renoir!
I'm going to skip listing his silent films because, other than maybe Dracula, I don't think anyone's seen them and most of them have less than 200 rating votes on IMDB. But if you've seen them, please post your scores and I will grace you with impressed praise.
Filmography:
La Chienne (1931) Night at the Crossroads (1932) Boudu Saved from Drowning (1932) Chotard and Company (1933) Madame Bovary (1934) Toni (1935) The Crime of Monsieur Lange (1936) The Lower Depths (1936) The Grand Illusion (1937) La Marseillaise (1938) La Bete Humaine (1938) The Rules of the Game (1939) Swamp Water (1941) This Land is Mine (1943) The Southerner (1945) The Diary of a Chambermaid (1946) The Woman on the Beach (1947) The River (1951) The Golden Coach (1952) French Cancan (1954) Elena and Her Men (1956) Picnic on the Grass (1959) The Elusive Corporal (1962)
Renoir made a ton of films, there's like 10 or so more I could've included.

I remember thinking that it looked beautiful and had some interesting observations, but I couldn't really get into it. I probably need to see it again.

Well, that's pretty much where I stood with it as well. The narrative about the ugly little girl that loved the much older captain was really corny and uninteresting and is essentially the core of the film. When Renoir is focusing more on Indian culture and the cycle of life that the river is supposed to embody, it's terrific. Visuals and Renoir in color is dazzling for 1951 and the ending is great, but the narrative itself isn't nearly as interesting as I had hoped.
I dunno, I'll rewatch it at some point, but for now I'm confident with where I stand on the film. Very good, but not great.
