Eleven years for a sequel is a bit much. The Chinese won't care, though. They love that #### so much that the China Film Group is reportedly co-producing these things. What isn't China co-producing these days?

James Cameron is, like, 80 years old. He's not gonna live to 2025. Doomsday will have to take over and finish these movies. He's 62 as of right now. He'll be 72 in 10 years. He'll be okay.

Kate Winslet Joins James Cameron’s Avatar Sequels Kate Winslet, who can be seen in The Mountain Between Us this weekend, is reteaming with her Titanic director for the Avatar sequels.
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career,” Cameron told Deadline. “I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
It is unclear who Ronal is or how many of the four sequels the character will appear in.
Returning from the original film are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver. Cliff Curtis and Oona Chaplin are also joining the sequels. Cameron recently explained that Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch is coming back for all four sequels and will be the main villain throughout the story.
Filming officially started on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 on September 25, 2017. Shortly after, James Cameron announced young cast members for the sequel, which include the Sully family and children from the Metkayina Na’vi clan who live near ocean reefs, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis). The only actor who will appear in live-action playing a non-CGI character is Jack Champion as Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teen born at the Hell’s Gate military complex seen in the first film.
20th Century Fox and Lightstorm Entertainment previously announced release dates for the four Avatar sequels. Avatar 2 will be coming to theaters on December 18, 2020, and will be followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021. Filming will then begin on Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, which will be released on December 20, 2024 and December 19, 2025.www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/892653-kate-winslet-joins-james-camerons-avatar-sequels

Does anyone else miss just numbered sequels? When the story only makes sense if you watch the films in order, I miss them. When the movie stands on it's own, regardless of how many films have come before it, I don't mind.

Wooo Avatar movies.
In all seriousness though I know a few people working on 2 and 3. I asked them if they'll be any good and they said at the very least they'll look incredible.

Avatar 2 - December 17, 2021
Avatar 3 - December 22, 2023
Avatar 4 - December 19, 2025
Avatar 5 - December 17, 2027
Bro... we're gonna be in our 40's by the time James Cameron finishes this series. IF he even lives that long. We might have to brace ourselves for posthumous Avatar films.

I think we can all safely assume whenever "Avatar" is mentioned in a headline that the rest of it reads "Has Been Delayed."

Reports are surfacing that Avatar 2 has been delayed by a year. So... 2017 instead of 2016. That's literally 8 years after the original. Good luck, James Cameron. Not that you need it. Let's revisit the very first post in this thread. Just for kicks.

So the plan is to have a Star Wars movie and an Avatar movie filling those December time slots every other year. That'll give Disney a hold on the holidays for some time to come.
If the original reports are true, that Disney was hesitant and wanting to see how 2 and 3 do first before officially moving forward with the last two, I'm going to take this as a good sign. That whatever Cameron has shown them has impressed them enough that they just planted these dates to alternate with Star Wars now.

That's sure to piss off the 8 people who are looking forward to it. They will soon live in a world in which Avatar isn’t the highest grossing movie of all time.
