That's sure to piss off the 8 people who are looking forward to it. This didn't age well.

Hey now, there are people who are pumped to see Avatar and then there are people like me who feel compelled, almost forced against their will to if only to be part of the conversation. I won't say the latter is in any way a majority but I think could constitute a sizable minority. Still, we buy tickets nonetheless.

I just don't see the hype surrounding this. Whenever Marvel so much as announces a release date for a movie the internet shuts down. When the trailer for a new Terminator movie people go crazy even though it looks like garbage. Star Wars, Batman v Superman, Bond, heck name any moderately popular property and people get excited. There's none of that with Avatar. 'Hey, we're going to have one...no, two....make that three sequels!' Society just goes eh, whatever. Maybe things will change when a trailer is dropped around 2036 but considering how it's the most successful movie ever made you would think there would be more (see: any) excitement from the movie-going public. Lmao. Classic Doomsday.

Believe it or not I still stand by all these. There are some people that care about Avatar and a lot of people who just want to see a popular movie. Like I said, we'll still buy tickets even though many people aren't overly impressed by the overall narrative.

Maybe the takeaway is that internet hype isn't worth nearly as much as it appears on the surface? Going by the vibes online, you'd never guess a Top Gun sequel would be the biggest crossover hit movie of the year, or that Avatar 2 would soundly crush Marvel and Batman, or that a Game of Thrones spin-off so close to the original's supposedly shitty ending would set record-setting numbers.

That's very true. I also don't know what the demographics are of the people who are the primary Avatar ticket buyers, I'd be interested in seeing where the cash is coming from.

I mean, Jurassic World and the Lion King remake are near the top of the all-time box office list, a lot of folks think those are pretty dumb. But again it might just be the circles I run in. I know a lot of people socially or through work, most of them have seen Avatar, most of those people have seen Avatar 2 and I don't think I know anyone who's like 'fuck yeah, Pandora!' Maybe it's these damn kids these days.

This is anecdotal, but Jurassic World and The Lion King remake are two of the only recent movies my normal family friends will talk about, along with Bohemian Rhapsody, Top Gun, and Avatar. Critics may not like all of these, smartass internet posters might think they're souless trash, but these are the movies ordinary people care about enough to see. Like, if you care about filmmaking, a photorealistic Lion King is a slap in the face of the og's amazingly expressive animation. But if you're a normie, it's "wow great graphics"
