That's because his movies blow. Quentin Tarantino has a lot of ego too, but he's not rolling in Peter Jackson money either. These Hobbit movies are shit, but they're making good money internationally. Plus, there's blu-ray sales and TV rights. Everyone benefitted from this being three movies instead of one.

Money and ego aren't mutually exclusive concepts here.

I liked the movies fine character wise but do hate how PJ makes Gandy look weak magic wise in all adaptations. PJ is good at casting but i think he tried to hard to make it better then lotr And he listened to James Cameron too much and went cgi character orcs.

I don't know. Kevin Smith has lots of ego, but you don't see him rolling in Peter Jackson money. Kevin Smith also hasn't been relevant for 10 years and hasn't made anything really worth seeing since 1999. He also made "Cop Out" which makes "The Lovely Bones" look like a masterpiece.

The problem is a general lack of passion. It all feels so tired and uninspired.

And it's hurt by the fact that it takes place before Lord of the Rings, a more epic story in every way. Which is why one movie to return to the franchise would have been just fine.

Hopefully, J.J. Abrams directs the next one so we can forget about this awful trilogy.

They don't have the rights to make any other Tolkien book into a movie.

I always felt the hobbit should have been made seperately from Jackson and given more a fantasy look too it and have a different vesion. I always felt Gore Versbinski or David Yates could have given a more Hobbit Kids and adult like vision. I am greatful for the films for Freemans performance alone has been worth each film.

What are you going on about Vader, nobody is telling you not to like the movie. Just because someone has a different opinion, doesn't mean they are attacking you

Gore Verbinski? Because he made one good "Pirates" movie? He's done nothing but overly bloated blockbusters since ("The Lone Ranger" anyone?) and would do even worse with these movies.

I do have one movie complaint i saw the movie in 3d and felt it looked very strange. A question i have does the movie look better in 2d without glasses. Cause at times it looked like a play and nothing like any of the 5 other movies.

Looked the same to me, I saw it in the 48 fps for the first two and found it distracting because the images are way too crisp and don't blend as well with the CGI. I went 24 fps in 3D this time and it looked great.

I think it's funny just how much energy Neverending puts into coming here and bashing a movie she's never seen.

How visually crisp this trilogy looks really bothers me. It's almost too glossy.

LOTR, the first one, is on TBS right now. It's funny how it has a classical feel to it. If you remove the CGI, it's a movie that could have been made in the '70s and '80s. You can't say that about The Hobbit. Like Doomsday said earlier, these Hobbit movies look and feel like video games. It's the fundamental thing that prevents The Hobbit from living up to the LOTR. Even if you re-edit all three Hobbit movies into one, it wouldn't have the magic of LOTR. You can't undo the fakeness.

Why is there so many extreme close-ups in the first LOTR? Not even Sergio Leone had this much in his movies. And why does it take 2 hours to form the fellowship? And why are the Hobbit's so gay? I hate to agree with Kevin Smith, but Star Wars is WAY better than this shit.

Lotr and Star Wars are 2 great trilogies.
Ones scifi opera other is fantasy.
Both have core fans.
I particularly love both of em for different reasons, no reason why smith wants to compare them.

Or here's a better question: why can't Star Wars and the LOTR trilogy be more like this trippy, yet undeniably disturbing masterstroke?

I hate to agree with Kevin Smith, but Star Wars is WAY better than this shit. Kevin Smith also has no room to talk since he's had one of the more disappointing careers in recent memory considering he hasn't made anything worth seeing in almost 20 years. He's not nearly as good a writer as he was projected to be and resorts to the same tricks direction-wise that grows tiresome after you've seen more than 2 of his films. So yeah, Kevin Smith should just keep his opinions to himself because the guy is honestly not any good at all. If it wasn't for "Clerks" and "Dogma" I'd write him off completely.

Chasing Amy was the only movie I liked by Kevin Smith. All of the other ones are completely forgettable and stupid.

Yeah, probably. But still, I don't think he should be putting his opinion on much. If we spun it onto his films we could discuss what the bigger piece of shit is, "Jersey Girl" or "Cop Out". He's a has-been that really never was, the guy is only still relevant to comic book nerds and that's about it. Even "Clerks" is heavily borrowed from "Slacker".
