Not defending the movie because of being a loyalest to all things Tolkien and Jackson. I just feel people are being way too Star Wars crazy about the Hobbit movies. I think people expected LOTR repackaged in a nice little copy. And what got was a different movie thats more fantasy then LOTR too me. Not as good ofcourse its not nor was it going to be. Once people except that these movies were never gonna be rings great the allot better they will be but heck its too late for that. Hobbit is gonna be this generations Prequal Star Wars which really was not bad films by Lucus just not as good nor was they gonna be as 4,5,6. Cant beat original release of a good movie. Sure you can make worthy cool sequels or prequels but recapturing the right Magic can seldom be done.

No this was just terrible. Horrible conclusion, nothing significant to report it was Terrible. Not because I'm comparing it to lord of the rings.
I never was, it was just bad movie as a movie.

I'm surprised that the pricing is the same where you live. For some reason ticket prices in Brooklyn were a lot better.

I live in Queens. There are cheaper tickets here too though not by much and the theaters are...not as nice. I usually see things in Manhattan because I actually don't spend that much time in Queens unless I'm sleeping.

It's not all bad. Its got all the necessities but it's much more residential than Brooklyn and Manhattan, not as trendy. Cheaper rent though. And way more convenient than the Bronx or Staten Island. I'll live in New Jersey before moving to Staten Island. *shudder*

I know lots of people from New Jersey. From all parts too. It's not the people. It's the easy of transport. I can get into NYC from parts of Jersey by one bus or train. Staten Island, unless you have a car or live by the ferry (which can cost almost as much as Manhattan), requires a bus, a ferry and then a train to get there you going. No thanks.

Its peoples own fault in comparing LOTR to the Hobbit or rather using it as a guide. Just because The Hobbit is not LOTR people have hated it just because it was not equal or better then a masterpiece. I long ago seperated Hobbit and LOTR as 2 two trilogies that take place in middle earth. Sure Jackson wants us to think there are a parts of the same puzzle but no Hobbit for me is the hobbit and LOTR is LOTR. I hope down the road people just enjoy them differently and put down the hater cool aide.

They ARE part of the same story. Same world, universe, whatever. Of course they are going to compare it and rightly so. Same writers, same director, same effects company. Making a trilogy with characters pull directly from the original LOTR trilogy. If it doesn't measure up, its not the audiences fault for comparing the two.

Stop acting like it's all due to comparison to the LOTR trilogy and that you're some paragon of fair judgement.

I'm just saying i dont see the hobbit movies as being bad movies just not as good as LOTR but as a fan of the hobbit book i was and am pleased with Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and felt he was better then all 4 hobbits put together. All the hobbits have great courage but Freemans Bilbo seemed so much like boss bad ass too me. Point am trying to make is i think comparing them to rings is why people give the movie less a chance. I myself felt like the hobbit movies cannot out do the lotr so why not just enjoy what have been given.

Freeman would've made a good Frodo.

I have gone on for a while in my reviews about how bad the pacing is, how inconsistent the tone is (one of the most crucial factors for making a good movie), how the story structure suffers from being stretched into three movies, how pandering to the fans and the other trilogy distracts from the experience, character development problems with Bilbo's absence and coping out on Thorin's tragic element. There are many other examples of just low quality film-making period. And so we can compare them to LOTR, or any other movies for that matter, in which all these film-making aspects were done very well.

So for you guys who have seen all three movies, where do you think the fault lies in these being less successful? PJ? The writers? Studio intervention?

Granted I haven't seen this yet but with all the appendices material they wanted to add, two moives might have worked. But from what I've seen in the first two, its been very paint by numbers and much too choreographed. Action scenes are like watching someone play a video game and the dialogue is bland though the actor really try to breath life into it.
I blame ego.

I don't know. Kevin Smith has lots of ego, but you don't see him rolling in Peter Jackson money.
