‘Spider-Man' Reboot Casting Update: Two Final Contenders For Peter Parker Role Revealed
The search for the role of the new Peter Parker in the “Spider-Man” reboot is reportedly down to two actors. Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland are said to be the only young stars left as contenders.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have reportedly narrowed down their list of possible young actors to portray the role of the web slinger in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Galactic News One noted Badass Digest writer Devin Faraci’s post on his Twitter page regarding the casting update.
A few days back it was reported that Asa Butterfield (“Ender’s Game”) was the main contender as Peter Parker. Now it remains unclear who among the two young actors will grab the role of Spider-Man.
Movie scoopster Umberto Gonzalez once said on his Instagram post that Asa Butterfield has been Marvel and Sony’s top choice for the role of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man since the beginning. Comicbookmovie likewise quoted a source who claimed that Butterfield may have been cast already since he's been Marvel's choice as Spider-Man “since day one.” However, per Gonzalez the actor’s agency offered no comment when asked for confirmation.
Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland (“The Impossible”) were among the five actors supposedly listed by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures as contenders for the role of the high school web slinger in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Natt Wolf (“The Fault In Our Stars”), Timothee Chalamet (“Interstellar”) and Liam James (“The Way Way Back”) were initially rumoured to have been shortlisted.
The Wrap had mentioned last week that these five young stars were not even given test offers. However, writer Jeff Sneider said that Marvel and Sony had planned to make the test offers then and that the result will be announced three weeks after the offers have been made.
The new Peter Parker will be making his debut through a cameo appearance in “Captain America: Civil War.” Spider-Man will be appearing in the May 6, 2016 sequel prior to starring in his solo film in July 2017. The “Spider-Man” reboot, which is rumoured to have been given the title “Spider-Man: The New Avengers,” marks the web slinger’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

‘Spider-Man' Reboot Film Details: Peter Parker's Story To Be Told In Four Movie Series
The ‘Spider-Man’ reboot is going to be made into four movies. According to a recent report, these four-part series will all explore the life of the high school Peter Parker as the web slinger.
Deadline on its exclusive report about the “Spider-Man” reboot claimed Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal “are planning an arc that will tell the Spidey story over three to four movies.” Writer Mike Fleming Jr. said each of these movies will explore a year into Peter Parker’s life. However, these series of films will not be an origin story, unlike the previous “The Amazing Spider-Man” series. Per Fleming by then the high school Peter Parker is already Spider-Man, since he’ll ”already have been bitten by the radioactive spider so we don’t have to see that all over again,” he added.
The four-part “Spider-Man” series will reportedly be a coming of age tale of how Peter Parker handles being a superhero. The reboot will reportedly have a tone reminiscent of a John Hughes humour and emotion, but mixed with all the superhero details needed for the film.
Spider-Man’s introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe involves a cameo appearance in the May 6, 2016 film, “Captain America: Civil War.” No details have been released yet regarding his role in the sequel. The web slinger will debut in the film before he stars in the July 28, 2017 “Spider-Man” reboot, which has reportedly been given the working title “Spider-Man: The New Avenger.”
The search for a young actor to play the high school Peter Parker is reportedly still ongoing. But Marvel and Sony may want to hasten the final selection. If Spider-Man is to make a cameo appearance in “Civil War,” then a young actor should have already been cast since per Screenrant, production on the "Captain America" sequel already started in April.
Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland were previously reported as the last two final contenders for the role of Peter Parker in the “Spider-Man” reboot. Badass Digest writer Devin Faraci shared the news on his Twitter page.
Asa Butterfield has been Marvel’s number one choice from the beginning, movie scoopster Umberto Gonzalez said on his Instagram post. Comicbookmovie likewise cited a source who claimed the 18-year old may have already been cast already since the studio has taken a special interest in him for the Spider-Man role “since day one.” However, it now remains uncertain if Butterfield will grab the part considering Tom Holland is said to be the next Peter Parker contender.

I can't help but notice that in most of these newer Spider-Man news leaks, there doesn't seem to be any mention of Drew Goddard still being at the helm of the project. There's been no leak regarding him leaving either, though.

There's been no leak regarding him leaving either, though. He might still be involved as a writer/producer. If Sony & Marvel want the movie released by 2017, there needs to be at least a rough draft of the screenplay by the end of the summer. So Drew Goddard might be locked in a room somewhere putting that together.

Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre? Oh please, give the directing job to Jared Hess I can see it now, Pete Parker grows up in a trailer park in Idaho with his Aunt May and moves to the big city in Mexico so he can buy food for his ailing aunt and the other orphans dead relatives left on her doorstep. In the city he is bitten by a toxic drunken Luchadore and then returns home in triumph to win the class election for Harry Osborne by wrestling everyone in school and giving Flash Thompson an atomic flying left handed wedgie.

Marvel's New Cinematic Spider-Man Will Be "a Non-Stop Wit," Says Kevin Feige
"There are so many things that are integral to his character in the comics that haven't been explored yet," says Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
It's been a couple of months since Marvel and Sony announced that they'd be working together to reboot the Spider-Man movie franchise, and bringing the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That seems just about long enough for Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to start teasing what fans should expect from the next big screen web head.
"It's a testament to his character that there have been five movies made already over the last — however long it's been, 13 years — and yet, there are so many things that are integral to his character in the comics that haven't been explored yet," Feige told IGN when asked about what would make the next Spider-Man different from his predecessors. "That's what most exciting."
He went on, "Batman was the same way; there had been four Batman movies, and then Batman Begins was able to do something unique and tap into something that hadn't been seen before in the movies. It's a similar thing, obviously tonally completely different from Batman, but we're very excited about any number of things about Spidey and his standalone adventures."
In particular, Feige suggested that fans should expect more of the character's comic book comedy in his next incarnation. "When he puts that mask on, in the comics, he has a non-stop wit that's almost as troubling to the bad guys he fights as his webs and agility. We feel we haven't really seen that yet."
When asked whether or not we'll see a third movie take on the classic Spider-Man origin, Feige gave the answer I think most were hoping for. "I think people are very familiar with that origin," he said, laughing.

What the fuck is he talking about? Andrew Garfield was "non-stop wit" too. Garfield was far more witty than Maguire, but still not as much as the comics version. The second movie was close in a couple of places, but the first one of Garfield's only had the banter and taunting a couple of times.

Garfield was far more witty than Maguire, but still not as much as the comics version. You're never gonna duplicate the comic book without destroying the rhythm of the action scenes. Imagine the best scene in the Spider-Man franchise being interrupted by Spider-Man saying witty stuff every 5 seconds: What works in a comic book isn't always gonna work in a movie.

Every five seconds would certainly be too much of a good thing. Film has a very different rhythm than comics, but there is a middle ground that Amazing Spider-Man 2 achieved a few of times. They just need to work on delivering that sort of thing on a more consistent basis. It requires extra effort on the part of the writing team. More specifically, it needs comedy writers and action writers working together to bring the source material to the screen.

It needs comedy writers and action writers working together to bring the source material to the screen. No. It's about choosing the right tone for each scene. You can have scenes with Spider-Man goofing around and you can have scenes with Spider-Man fighting for his survival, but having both at the same time wouldn't be effective. Spider-Man isn't Deadpool. Underneath the mask he's just a regular person with regular problems. That's what fanboys forget sometimes. For every scene in the comics where Spider-Man is making a villain look like a fool, there's a scene where he's trying to defeat a villain as quickly as possible because Aunt May is at the hospital. On paper you can blur the line between the two but on film that's gonna work against you. If Marvel wants a movie where Spider-Man is witty most of the time then they're gonna sacrifice all the emotional scenes that are also key to what makes the character great. Basically, they're gonna give him the Iron Man treatment. In the comics, Iron Man is an alcoholic and has had his dark moments in life, but you wouldn't know that by watching the movies. The same way that they've downplayed Captain America's isolation. In the comics, Captain America feels like an outsider cause he's in a different time and place and has lost everyone he loves. In the movies that bothers him for like 5 minutes. Marvel, despite their success, have never made great adaptations of their characters. They're all flawed adaptations in one way or another. To think they're gonna "rescue" Spider-Man is silly. There was no reason to get rid of Andrew Garfield and reboot everything for a second time. Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a mess because they crammed two movies into one, not because there was bad ideas. They could have redeemed the series with future installments and Garfield fits in with the other Marvel actors. Garfield, Robert Downey Jr and Mark Ruffalo would have made a great trio. Instead they're gonna bring in a 12 year old who'll look awkward with everyone else.

I Don't think it was a mess, but I agree with a lot of what you are saying. Yeah Spidey does a lot of banter because it makes his opponents mad and they start making mistakes, but also because he is in such danger. While there are some times where you are too preoccupied to talk, he also does it to keep his shit together.
One villain asked him why he cracked so many jokes while fighting and he said because if I didn't I'd probably cry lol

I guess they are trying to get a real young look. I wish they would just bring Andrew Garfield back, but I know that's not going to happen.

I wonder if there ever has been a reboot with the same actor... The James Bond reboot kept Judi Dench as M. I hate when people say that. The James Bond franchise has a soft reboot with every actor. Unless you believe Pierce Brosnan played the same James Bond who was battling Spectre and Goldfinger in the 1960's. So if you wanna get technical, the old guy who played Q was there for almost 40 years and 5 actors playing James Bond.
