Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7, 2017)

Nat Wolff – The actor is most well-known for playing Issac in last year’s summer hit “The Fault In Our Stars.” The producers liked his performance so much that they cast him as the lead in their next John Green novel adaptation, “Paper Towns,” which is due in theaters on July 24. The 20-year-old has played snarky and funny characters, which is a perfect fit for Peter Parker. He also has a Marvel actor campaigning for him to get the role. Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk in “Daredevil,” has tweeted that he wants the Wolff to play the web slinger.

Tom Holland – The Brit’s small resume isn’t overly impressive. He’s done a couple films, but nothing that’s even half as huge as a Marvel movie. The actor, who will turn 19 in June, has gotten to work with some major talents on small projects. He co-starred with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in “The Impossible,” and he worked with “Lovely Bones” actress Saoirse Ronan in “How I Live Now.” He also starred in “Billy Elliot the Musical” on London’s West End. The role required him to be a dancer, so that training could help him with some of Spidey’s movements.

Timothée Chalamet – The 19-year-old has been making a name for himself in smaller roles in high profile projects. He played the vice president’s son on Showtime’s “Homeland” and a younger version of Casey Affleck’s character in “Interstellar.” The New Yorker also attended LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, the drama school that the 1980s film “Fame” was based on. He clearly has the training and preparation to pull off a leading role, but the “Spider-Man” producers will have to decide if he is Peter Parker material.

Asa Butterfield – The English actor just turned 18 this month, making him the youngest thespian in the running to play Spider-Man. Butterfield boasts a small but impressive resume that includes many leading roles in critically applauded films. He played the titular character in “Hugo,” which received five Oscar nominations, and he played a lead character, Bruno, in “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.” He also nabbed the starring role in the adaptation of the sci-fi classic “Ender’s Game” in 2013, and he’ll soon be seen in the highly anticipated “Peregrine's Home for Peculiars.” With such an established career, the young actor could probably handle playing Peter Parker easily.

Liam James – This is yet another 18-year-old with an impressive resume. James played the flashback version of Shawn Spencer in “Psych” for four years, and then he went on to play Jack Linden on AMC’s “The Killing” for four seasons. In between TV gigs, the Canadian has taken several film roles, including the lead role of Duncan in the critically acclaimed film “The Way, Way Back.” Just like the actors he is competing against, he has a strong career, and it seems like he could easily step into the famous red and blue suit.
