I think it was obvious they wanted Raimi back when Amazing Spider-Man 2 went back to the style of his movies.

I for one am glad that this isn't likely to actually happen. Sam Raimi lacked any imagination when it came to the Spider-Man franchise. The suits at Sony Pictures may have been pushing him regarding characters, but it was Sam who was responsible fore the story. Three movies in a row with the same story is beyond lazy. The only things than really changed were the increasing number of song & dance numbers per film. By the third movie he was up to five musical numbers. If he were to take the reigns again, we would end up with a full blown musical.
These leaks have made it crystal clear that Sony Pictures is sorely lacking in leadership and direction when it comes to the Spider-Man franchise. They're just stumbling around in the dark. Hopefully this summit meeting they're having which was also leaked will allow them to figure out precisely WTF they're doing.

www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/12/13/exclusive-sony-hack-reveals-studio-planning-another-spider-man-reboot.htmlExclusive: Sony Hack Reveals Studio's Detailed Plans For Another ‘Spider-Man’ RebootA leaked document unearthed by The Daily Beast outlines a plan to reboot the web-slinger with a new director at the helm, possibly exploring the superhero’s years as an adult. A detailed 8-page document outlining a plan to reboot Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, dated November 13, 2014, and was sent by Jeff Robinov, head of the Fosun-backed Studio 8 (which has an output deal with Sony), to Pascal. The first two pages of the 8-page attachment gushes about what makes Spider-Man such an indelible hero, saying, “To argue that there’s plenty of other superhero movies with levity in the marketplace, so why make more Spider-Man movies, would be akin to saying there’s no room for James Bond films because of all the espionage films and franchises that have come out over the years. There will always be room for this beloved, iconic hero.” Then, under the bold headline “Rebooting Spider-Man,” Robinov describes a broad vision for the future of the franchise. “ In the next Spider-Man movies, we can’t go back to his origin story. Think of the 25 films in the James Bond franchise; just because a new creative team comes aboard, and breathes new life into a classic property, doesn’t mean the origin story has to be retold.” What follows is “a list of filmmakers that come to mind” to helm the Spider-Man reboot, and they are: Brad Bird, Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee (Frozen), Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), Joe Cornish (Attack the Block), Glenn Ficarra & John Requa (Crazy, Stupid, Love), James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Don Hall & Chris Williams (Big Hero 6), Phil Lord & Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie), Joachim Rønning & Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki), Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), Edgar Wright, and David Yates, of Harry Potter franchise fame. As for the storyline, Robinov says that instead of coming up with it himself, he’d like to sit down with the filmmakers and embrace how they’d like to approach it—but also discusses some potential plots to tackle. I might suggest looking at what is widely thought to be the most beloved Spider-Man storyline of all time – “Kraven’s Last Hunt” – which ran across Amazing Spider-Man #293-294, Spectacular Spider-Man #131-132, and Web of Spider-Man #31-32. (In fact, Comic Book Resources polled their readers in 2012, and this storyline was voted as the single greatest Spider-Man storyline of all time.)
In it, Kraven the Hunter tracks down Spider-Man, shoots him repeatedly, and leaves him for dead, buried underground. He then dons a Spider-Man costume and savagely starts attacking criminals.
What makes this story resonate with fans is that it proves it takes more than just the costume to become “Spider-Man.” No matter what he’s wearing, or what predicament he’s facing, Peter Parker is sensitive, passionate, and connected to those he’s interacting with in a very powerful way. It’s not Peter’s powers that make him special – Kraven, and every other superhuman in the Marvel Universe, all have powers. Peter is special because of his values, because of what drives him, because of the lessons he’s learned from Uncle Ben’s death, and because of his love for Mary Jane. I’ve pasted a few pivotal pages from this book so you can see just how intense this storyline is.
We also get to see how Mary Jane deals with Peter’s disappearance, and how she would react if Peter ever died in action.Another angle Robinov suggests as a possibility for Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a franchise reboot tackling Spidey as… an adult. Another side of Spider-Man that might be interesting to explore in a reboot is seeing him as an adult. Spidey hasn’t remained a teenager over the 52 years he’s been around. He’s moved in with his girlfriend, gotten married, and in some storylines, even became a science teacher at a high school.
It might feel fresh to see Peter Parker juggling with adult issues. He’s done so in the comics for decades, and kids still found this fun to read.

www.flickeringmyth.com/2014/12/details-sonys-spider-man-plans-sinister-six-venom-carnage-potential-new-reboot.htmlMore details on Sony’s Spider-Man plans: The Sinister Six, Venom, Carnage and a potential new rebootEarlier in the week it was reported via leaked emails from Sony that the studio received an approach from Marvel about adding Spider-Man to the cast of 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, as well as sounding out the possibility of bringing Sam Raimi back into the fold, an animated movie from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo offering to take over as producers on the series going forward. Well, more and more details are now emerging, this time concerning The Sinister Six, Venom, and how Spidey would have fit into Marvel’s plans, had negotiations between the two parties been successful: – Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach would like to have Venom (or Carnage) as the main antagonist in The Sinister Six, as he doesn’t feel the symbiote can hold his own movie (so bye-bye Venom: Carnage, by the sound of it). And should Venom end up featuring in The Sinister Six, Spider-Man would wear his black suit in the film before tearing it off after being mocked by the Sinister Six over his new look, leading to the birth of the antagonist. – Had Sony agreed to allow Spider-Man to feature in Civil War, it would have been as a cameo, with Marvel Studios replacing Andrew Garfield with a new actor. Sony’s Michael De Luca was keen for the deal to happen, hoping it would renew interest in Spider-Man movies and allow Sony to skip The Sinister Six. De Luca also suggested the possibility of rebooting the Spider-Man series once more, albeit skipping over the character’s origin and potentially using Venom, Carnage and Hobgoblin as the villains. So, at this point, it looks like Sony has absolutely no idea how to proceed with the Spider-Man franchise, and all of the previously announced plans such as The Sinister Six movie seem to be completely up in the air. Not good news for fans of the wall-crawler, but you have to wonder if there’s ever going to be a better time for Disney and Marvel Studios to make a play for the rights… UPDATE: Even more details are emerging about internal Sony discussions regarding Spider-Man, including: – Suggestions that Andrew Garfield has effectively been fired as Spidey following his negative comments about The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and his absence at a corporate dinner attended by Sony CEO Kaz Hirai.– Amy Pascal suggesting that if Spider-Man appeared in Civil War, Sony would want script approval, casting approval for Spider-Man and Aunt May and approval of the new costume, as well as wondering whether the third Captain America movie could set up a new Spider-Man series without the need for The Sinister Six, and if it would be possible for Sony to use Marvel Studios characters such as Captain America in their own future Spider-Man movies.

Honestly an adult spider-man would make the most sense since we have seen 5 incarnations of Spider-man as a high school/ and college years.

Ironically, that's where things were headed in Raimi's Spider-Man 4. I think Peter was supposed to be Connor's teaching assistant. And they obviously would have progressed the whole engagement storyline.

Here is my proposed idea. At The Begin of Spiderman 4 Tobey Wakes up in a cold sweat to reveal the other two movies were a bad dream or it was a delusion and garfield peter was and alternative world spiderman and the 2 spidermans team up and we have a madam web story arch but Sam Raimi controls the story and Raimi takes over Garfield Spiderman cause they need to let him cast the Sinister Six.

Fourth option. They don't have to give the rights back completely (although that would be ideal). Let them produce and distribute (and market if they want), so they still have a piece of the pie, but they need to allow Marvel to step in and start actually making them (writing/directing/casting).
I would also be fine with them wishing to overlook the script and casting for approval. At this point I can't imagine them arguing too much.

Nah.
In newer leaks, it became apparent that Marvel had bad ideas as well.
Just bring back Sam Raimi, as a producer, team him up with Jeff Robinov's production company, and get Edgar Wright to direct.

The most likely result of the Spidey Summit is that Sony will go it alone rather than team with Marvel Studios. It's not what I prefer, but it's a realistic outcome. A certain amount of damage control is to be expected as well.
The leak that I found the most odd was the animated feature film. I can't help but think that was just someone spitballing ideas, because I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't have the rights to an animated version of Spider-Man. Even if they do, it's still a bad idea, since kids can already see an animated Spidey at home on Disney XD and parents won't be as likely to take them to a theater to see what they've got at home.

I've only read the reports of the emails and not the emails themselves, so I guess it's possible that they're either dated from the days when Sony did have the rights, or someone was under the mistaken impression that they still held the animation rights. Spectacular Spider-Man was a co-production of Sony and Marvel Studios. Since the current series Ultimate Spider-Man is not associated with Sony in any way, the animation rights would seem to have lapsed.

Spectacular Spider-Man was a co-production of Sony and Marvel Studios And not a very good one. I know that show has its fans - who bitched when Disney cancelled it - but it was an awful show. And one of the reasons I'm not gonna get too hyped about any Sony-Marvel partnership. They couldn't even beat the '90s cartoon with the lazer guns.

I'd prefer it as well, but even if Sony changes their mind in January and allows Spidey to be featured in Civil War, it may be too late. Civil War is being released in May 2016, so they'll have to begin filming fairly soon. From the way Civil War was discussed at the big Marvel Studios press event, they made it sound like they've already settled on how they intend to move forward without Spider-Man. I guess it just depends on Marvel's willingness to alter their plans.
