JBond Overanalyzes the MCU

I have a feeling what #1 might be however the one I’m thinking of is more silly than the rest so it might be in the 2 or 3 slot.

OK, so I'm probably already taking a break from this thread because I figure I might as well get "Thor: Love and Thunder" into my other lists. (But otherwise, my lists are pretty much done, so it should go quicker after that)

I would have picked Guardians 2 for number one.

Eh, I feel like this one was trying too hard. 

Top 15 Post Credit Scenes


Honorable mention - Thor: Love and Thunder (2nd) (Spoiler free)

Obviously I will not speak of it so close to the release date, and it's certainly too fresh to be able to rank it, so I'll just say it's very interesting.


15. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (1st)



Yeeeah, it's a little silly. But the switching of seriousness of how their "lives will forever be changed" to a shot of them singing Hotel California will always be very funny to me.


14. Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (1st)



A very intriguing scene and it's probably too early to fully judge it. This is also my way of sneaking in the weird end-movie twist of Doctor Strange having a third eye - a reveal that is technically NOT post-credits, but pre-credits.


13. Iron Man 3 (2nd)




I feel like it's the way he also ended Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but it IS a pretty funny scene.


12. Captain Marvel (2nd)




Unique, for sure.


11. Guardians of the Galaxy (2nd)



It's such a WTF moment. I always felt that they told themselves "Look, this is the only time we'll be able to get away with this joke."

9. Spider-Man: Homecoming (1st)



There's some crap set up in here that never comes up again, but that's not what I love. Adrian Toomes is a fun villain in that he really doesn't care about superheroes or being evil, he's just OK being a criminal to make money for his family. Not only does he try to just scare Peter Parker off in the movie, but here in a post credit scene he gets the chance to get revenge on him but flat out refuses. Why should he rat him out? Doesn't help now and it would lead to the death of a teenager. I liked that.


8. Avengers: Infinity War (2nd)



Did Captain Marvel end up saving the day? Well, kind of. She found Tony Stark and he obviously had a big part in it. Having said that, in this moment, pushing a button just before you don't have any fingers is kind of a bad-ass and unique moment. A moment that came right after we watched half of the world turn into ash. 


7. Thor: Dark World (1st)



I had forgotten just how important (and early) this little scene was that was hiding at the end of the not-so-great second Thor film. Probably because I didn't know what Infinity stones were at the time. Certainly chilling now to see it.


6. Spider-Man: No Way Home



This is just a really clever and fun to watch scene, and I've never seen Venom. This idea that he was a part of this multiverse snafu but has been just getting drunk as he waits it out. Hilarious. Good setup, too.

5. Thor: Ragnarok


"I just, I gotta say. I'm proud of you all. This revolution has been a huge success. Yay us! Pat, pat on the back. Pat on the back. Come on. No? Me, too. 'Cause I've been a big part of it. Can't have a revolution without somebody to overthrow! So, ah, you're welcome. And, uh, it's a tie."

This is funnier every time I see it. Goldblum's style is perfectly used here as he tries to weasel out of a very bad situation. "It's a tie."


4. Spider-Man: Far From Home



If you were ranking post-credit scenes by how vital they were to the story, this one would have to be at the top (followed by the next one). In a movie that seemed over, Spider-Man's identity was revealed to the world (as a murderer) and we got back our old friend J.K. Simmons to do it. Great.


3. Ant-Man and the Wasp (1st)



There was this unsettling and weird space of time after Infinity War came out but before Endgame did where we were given a couple movies knowing full well the world was going to be half wiped out. Most of us assumed there would be SOME reference to "the snap" at the end of this movie, but the result still managed to deliver to our expectations.

This was of course followed by one of the WORST post-credit scenes: the ant playing Rock Band.


2. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2nd)



Hell, this was funny enough to go on my "Funniest moments in the MCU" list coming out later, but it will likely be omitted. We were wonderfully trolled. (Wow, lot's of Spider-Man late in the list)


1. The Avengers (2nd)



I hope I'm not alone and leaving everyone shaking their heads on this one. I truly find this to be the best one. Part of this might be in context as there still weren't that many MCU movies at this point, and they smartly went with a chill one. When do we ever get to see the cool down after saving the world?

Yes! My pick was #2, I'm on the board baby!

30. Guardians of the Galaxy - Happy Groot


*Groot takes out a half dozen enemies at once in a gruesome manner, then turns around* 

Funny enough that even my mom laughed out loud when I showed it to my parents the first time. (She's typically quiet.) It was just so unexpected and yet in line with his personality. He was like "Groot do good?!"



29. Iron Man 3 - Here's the brain


Killian: Regard the human brain.

*Large, colorful hologram fills room*

Killian: Oh wait, hold on, that's the universe. My bad.

*Shows similar, but correct hologram*

Killian: THAT'S the brain.


Classic switcheroo humor done to perfection.


28. Guardians of the Galaxy - Rocket needs a leg



Pretty self-explanatory.


27. Avengers: Age of Ultron


Pietro Maximoff: [speeding off with Wanda] Keep up, old man!
Hawkeye: [Draws his bow and points it at Pietro's back] Nobody would know. Nobody. "The last I saw him, Ultron was sitting on him. Uh... yeah, he'll be missed. That quick little bastard. I miss him already..."

Very well done. And it helps we agree with him.


26. Iron Man 3 - "Because we're connected"


Tony Stark: Wait, you're guilt tripping me aren't you?

[Harley buries head in coat]

Harley Keener: [Innocently] I'm cold.
Tony Stark: [Mimicking Harley] I can tell. You know how I can tell?
Tony Stark: [Sarcastically] Cause' we're connected!

[Tony drives away]


I could make a whole list of great moments between these two, but for now, we'll go with this.

25. Avengers: Endgame - "Him or a tree"


Gamora: [as Nebula walks up] This is the one? Seriously?

Nebula: The choices were him or a tree.


I love how they basically tear apart the Peter/Gamora relationship in one line.


24. Spider-Man: Far From Home - Nacht Monkey



I doubt anyone finds this part as funny as I do, but guess what, my list. And I thought it was a perfect callback, made all the funnier in German.


23. The Avengers - Around the table


Thor: Have a care how you speak! Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard and he is my brother!
Natasha Romanoff: He killed eighty people in two days.
Thor: He's adopted.


OK, so this one's a bit harder to explain and to rank in my list. Basically, there's a scene when they're all sort of talking for the first time, you all remember it, and there's about a half dozen funnier than average moments or quotes in a very small space of time. Just a great scene (with highlights in the above photo), with the best part being the line about him being adopted.


22. Guardians of the Galaxy - "What do you still have it for?!"



Funnier within context, this is right after the purple Infinity Stone blows up the whole damn room, and Peter and Gamora (?) put it back in its case and walk out with it. Rocket's reaction is perfect.


21. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Baby Groot doesn't get it



Oh gosh. I couldn't stop laughing when he slowly began to put the badge on top of his head. They knew exactly what they had with Baby Groot in this movie. Too bad the movie wasn't better, but more on that later.
