Anyone else having trouble playing All About My Mother on Amazon? I carved out some down time this morning to watch it and it doesn't fucking play. Bastards! Just tried it, and yup, won't play for me either. Son of a bitch...

Kagemusha joins Criterion Channel in October. Are Naked, Mishima, Double Life of Veronique, Chungking Express or Come and See in danger of leaving before October 1st?

Anyone else do a blind purchase rather than rent something unavailable to them?
Bought Heat and Kagemusha

I want to make a thread so people can confess their film blind spots if only so we have some ammo for the film club. Had I known I would have partnered myself with you just to make you watch Heat.

Interesting idea. I know i have a ton, and there's probably more that i don't know I have.
I didn't join the film club until 1-2 years back, and I'm not exactly a film historian though i've watched a ton of my parents' movies and certain cultural touchstones/award winners of the 80s onward. I've sought out more B horror movies than I care to admit

Ya know, maybe I'll rewatch Hard Boilded too. I bought the Blu-Ray and I still haven't taken it for a spin yet.

Caught up with The Vanishing and Tombstone. Now I just need to see The Three Colors Trilogy and All About My Mother. Borrowed a Three Colors blu-ray from the film department, but All About My Mother...maybe I'll blind buy the Criterion. I do like the cover art.

What I haven't seen: 19. The Three Colors Trilogy46. The Vanishing83. All About My Mother 93. TombstoneOnly first time watch left is All About My Mother. Enjoyed everything here, but especially the Three Colors Trilogy. And of those movies, especially Blue and Red. White was interesting too but it's the bookends here that really soared. Very happy we got these on the list and I finally pushed myself to watch them. Speaking of this list prompting good viewings, I also found revisiting Das Boot to be quite rewarding. That film is a masterpiece of craft and the ending is fantastic. Definitely went up on a rewatch. Sadly, my rewatch of The Fifth Element was less fruitful. Sorry, frankyt

I disagree. It's clearly masterclass of craft.
Rewatch it again.

I disagree. It's clearly masterclass of craft. Rewatch it again. I think my Letterboxd review says it all: I absolutely despised this movie back in high school and while it did go up a little bit on this rewatch...I still don't like it at all. Look, I can admire elements of The Fifth Element. It shows real visual imagination and I like some of the practical effects but this movie just annoys the shit out of me. It's so obnoxious and loud, with the most juvenile sense of humour and tedious indulgences. I get that the idea first germinated when Luc Besson was a teenager but if I wanted to watch a sci-fi fantasy for horny 15 year olds, I'd just rewatch Heavy Metal. 1.5 stars

I think I'm gonna kill two birds with one stone and watch Videodrome both for this list and 31 Days of Halloween. Same with Evil Dead II.
The Three Colors Trilogy was indeed very rewarding. The more they sit with me, the more I think Blue is my favorite of them.
And I haven't seen The Fifth Element since I was a teenager, so I probably owe that a re-watch, too. But I do remember Chris Tucker being annoying as fuck in it.
