Welcome, one and all, to The CS! AFI Top 100 Movies: 1980 - 1999! Brought to you by thebtskink and myself.
As you'll recall, last year around this same time, we compiled a similar list for The 2000's and 2010's. The goal here will be the exact same as with that one, only for the twenty years before. The process will basically be the same as last time -- nomination/voting based -- but just to give you a refresher... Rules:
- All films nominated have to have been theatrically released.
- Concurrently, all films have to have been released theatrically from anytime between January 1st, 1980 and December 31st, 1999.
- Films can be produced by Britain, Australia/New Zealand, etc. and/or be in a foreign language. - Films also have to be in the Narrative format, which is another stipulation of the AFI. Modus Operandi:
- We will adjust this as necessary, but to start off: Participants choose FOUR movies at a time to be voted on and the top SEVEN with the most votes will go on the list. Again, this ratio will be adjusted as necessary as we move on, but this is just to get us going and not to have the process feel too tedious. Plus, it helps get the "heavyhitters" taken care of early. - Films can be re-nominated as many times as a person wants until it's on the list. - Please look at other nominated movies before you submit yours to avoid duplicates. A movie can only get one nomination per round.- Horse-trading/negotiating is allowed, even encouraged -- to make things more interesting. - OFFICIAL VOTES WILL ONLY BE COUNTED AS COMMENTS IN THIS THREAD.
- If, by the end of the list, we have more than 100, then there will be a special ranking or voting process to weed out potential stragglers.
- Winners of each round will be listed below on a pre-ranking masterlist as we go along.
So, without further ado, let's get this party started!

Drac already put The Shining up. What else ya got? Additional rule added to the main post just for clarification: movies can only get one nomination per round. Please give the other lists a gander before putting forth yours, guys. Thanks.
