Okay, new topic:
Dazed and Confused is just...okay. I can see why it's so popular, but I dunno. While I found a lot of the characters themselves charming and the soundtrack undeniably cool, I just couldn't relate to a lot of it, so this is the first time I've found Linklater's looser style to feel more meandering and uninvolving. I've liked/loved a lot of his films that I've seen so far...but they've all just worked better for me than Dazed and Confused.
Dazed and Confused is fine, I enjoy it for what it is but not a movie I go back to. So I guess I agree with you for the most part. What really makes me scratch my head is Everybody Wants Some. I watched about 30 minutes of that movie before turning it off. Every beat, every scene of that movie is just generic coming of age shit. And people LOVE that movie. I dunno, maybe I should give it another chance but I watched some and almost felt insulted.

Yeah, I'll watch Every Wants Some eventually cause it's Linklater, but I've kept hearing how similar it is to Dazed and Confused in some ways. So maybe I'll have to keep expectations in check a little in that regard.

I agree with Drac, it increases on repeat viewing.
My hot take is that I actually liked The Circle.

I thought that movie could've been a lot better, but neither did I think it was a trainwreck like everyone else.

Are the Austin Powers movies still well-liked? Were they ever? Cause I just went through them again for the first time since the...mid-2000's, and good God, they're truly awful.
Again, not sure how much of a "hot take" that'd be these days.

Austin Powers was huge in the late 90s/early 2000s. Huge. People were quoting and imitating him endlessly. I liked it when it first came out, I was just graduating junior high when #2 came out and it was the funniest thing I had ever seen. By the time Goldmember was released it was obvious even to a teenager that it was wearing very thin. The Fook Me/Fook Yu gag was cringe worthy. Still, I think there are still a lot of funny moments in #1. We’ll see if Mike Myers will ever follow through with his 2 decade-long threat of filming a 4th one.

This is the first time in history that Goldmember is considered the 2nd best Austin Powers. Next you’re gonna tell me Love Guru is better than Wayne’s World 2.

I really like the first Austin Powers. The humour is simple, but its simple in sort of a classic way. The spy riffs work, especially Dr. Evil as the villain.
The sequels for some reason decided that this was a gross-out humour franchise (it wasn't) and got really, really stupid.

A lot of the jokes in 3 always seemed to be rehashed of jokes from the first two. I think the only thing that really stands out is the celebrity "Austin Powers movie" that bookends the movie.
I haven't really watched any of them in over a decade though. One thing I will say is that a lot of jokes in the first two got way funnier after I watched the Sean Connery and Roger Moore Bond movies.

The first Austin Powers came out when I had become a James Bond fan, so I appreciated it as a spoof. But the sequels were indeed sketch comedy films, no different than Leslie Nielsen movies. But I did enjoy Spy Who Shagged Me. Like Doomsday, I was the right age. With Goldmember it got stale. I enjoyed the opening with Tom Cruise as Austin Powers and the Hard Knock Life scene with Dr. Evil & Mini Me. The rest was mostly forgettable. Austin Powers 1 & 2 are classics. Austin Powers 3 is like... Airplane 2 or Scary Movie 3.

I didn't watch all of the Bond movies until after Casino Royale came out. I had seen GoldenEye, which I liked, and Tomorrow Never Dies, which was shit.
So I had actually watched the Austin Powers movies first, and I think I was at the right SNL age for the second one when it came out and have a lot of nostalgia for that movie. The first movie was less so, probably because of that one feeling that it was trying to be something else and didn't really care for it as much. Goldmember, on the other hand, was just there.
Then I watched all the Bond movies and was like "Oh my god, that's...didn't Ausitn Powers...?" so many times during those first fifteen movies. When I was done, I was like "I gotta watch that first Austin Powers movie again." Then on rewatch, so much of it is so referential and clever that it held up pretty well, I thought. I didn't blame my before-Bond self for not liking it too much, as there are so many jokes in that movie that only click if you know the Bond movies back to front. I'd say the second one has a bit of that as well, as it seems a bit extravagant like a Roger Moore Bond.

The sequels for some reason decided that this was a gross-out humour franchise (it wasn't) and got really, really stupid. That's the first movie as well, though.
I recognized a lot of the James Bond riffs throughout all three, obviously, and when the movies were more focused on that kind of humor, they got more of a response from me. However, the problem is that the vast majority of screentime in these movies is predicated on the fact that Mike Myers seems to think he can just say whatever he wants while under the most ridiculous make-up and making the silliest faces and get a free pass. But that gets stale even during the first movie.
On average, the Dr. Evil-related scenes proved more entertaining to me than anything with Austin himself, but again, by the second movie, even that starts to wear out its welcome.
