I did this in 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006 , 2005, 2004, and for both the 2000s decade and the 2010s decade. It's worked out fairly well. It's very simple. You post your top ten movies list of 2020 then I will splice them all together into one definitive list of the top ten of 2020. The lists should be ranked, no ties. Traditionally I did this the week before the Oscars but every year I get people who don't come to the boards every day who miss the whole voting period so now I'm setting it up almost a month before the due date to help turnout. You have until 2:00 P.M. CST on 4-24-2021
Just to clarify: Qualifications are a bit difficult this year given the pandemic. After some discussion here we are going to contuinue to limit qualification to movies released in the United States during the 2020 calendar year. We will NOT be opening it up to January and February movies like the Oscars have. Among the films NOT eligible are: Cherry, The Dig, French Exit, I Care A Lot, Judas and the Black Messiah, The Little Things, Malcolm and Marie, The Mauritanian, Music, Saint Maud, Supernova, Two of Us, Quo Vadis Aida, The United States Vs. Billie Holiday, and The White Tiger All of these films will be eligible in next year's poll (assuming they're released on time) Nomadland, Minari, and The Father WILL be elligible When in doubt about eligibility of a given film, just ask me and I'll make a ruling You're welcome to edit your list after posting, but please give me a heads-up when you do and keep you original post intact so I know what has changed. Oh, and try to list them in ascending order from one to ten, and not the reverse. Anyway, I really want the highest turnout possible for this, don't hesitate to vote, even if you don't think you've seen as many movies as you would have liked, just vote. This forum has 108 registered members if even a quarter of them vote in this we'll still have numbers that rival the old board. I will be promoting the hell out of this and will not hesitate to start tagging people if the turnout isn't great.

Alright. I may end up seeing a few more like the Father, but I'm confident enough that this won't change much:
1. Minari 2. She Dies Tomorrow 3. After Midnight 4. Soul 5. Mank 6. The Vast of Night 7. Martin Eden 8. The Invisible Man 9. The Assistant 10. Sound of Metal

Counting films that Drac ruled out, I've watched 50 2020 releases this year.

I saw 14 2020 movies this year which isn't a lot to pick from and even those toward the bottom of my list I only feel so-so about. But if it's 10 you want then 10 you shall have. If I see any more in the next month and the list changes I'll ping you.
1. Sound of Metal 2. A Sun 3. Minari 4. Soul 5. Nomadland 6. Ma Rainey's Black Bottom 7. News of the World 8. Mank 9. The Trial of the Chicago 7 10. Greyhound

She dies tomorrow won't end up in the average top 10, but all I'm saying is I'm begging you folks to watch it on edibles.

To compare to other years, these would probably be mid to bottom on a list for a regular year. Not great quality at all. 1. The Social Dilemma 2. Extraction 3. Spenser Confidential 4. The Decline 5. The War with Grandpa 6. Death to 2020

Death to 2020 Many if not most of the movies on Coop's, skink's and my lists are on Netflix or Amazon Prime. You should try to check out Sound of Metal, Mank and A Sun if you can. If you have Hulu then Nomadland should be ripe for the pickin.

Loving the Minari dominance. I was pleasantly surprised to see that as well. Smart people on these boards. Very smart. I really liked all of the contenders this year (haven't seen Promising Young Woman or The Father), but Minari is a cut above the others for me. I think we'll see one or two Oscars parceled out here and there to a lot of these movies, but I'm rooting for Minari to take Best Picture.
