Wow, didn't know he died until I read your post and looked it up. For shame.
Van Halen was always a tier 3 band for me. I liked some of their stuff but I never loved them. Never saw them live either which at this moment I'm not sure if I regret or not.

We're too young for that. Van Halen peaked before we were even born.

We're too young for that. Van Halen peaked before we were even born. The Right Now video and Crystal Pepsi commercial were my first imprint of them, picked up the earlier stuff as I got older.

We're too young for that. Van Halen peaked before we were even born. They had a couple tours in the late-2000s, one with Sammy Hagar and later with David Lee Roth. Not really in their prime I would say.

All the bar regulars I knew that went to the Tattoo tour said they were actually pretty good on that tour.
That song sucked ass, but that album was good.

I bet you PG Cooper didn't know about Van Halen until Superbad I'd heard Van Halen most of my life on classic rock stations, but probably started listening on my own accord in middle school right around the time I started to get into Rock and Metal.

The Right Now video and Crystal Pepsi commercial were my first imprint of them, picked up the earlier stuff as I got older. My introduction was their infamous appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards. They announced a reunion with David Lee Roth and by the end of the show they had broken up again. LOL. They had a couple tours in the late-2000s, one with Sammy Hagar and later with David Lee Roth. Not really in their prime I would say. And David Lee Roth and Sammy Hager did a tour together. LOL.

Dracula thebtskinkIt's funny we went from Bee Gees to Van Halen cause they're technically contemporaries. Van Halen released their first single You Really Got Me on January 28, 1978. It peaked at #36 on March 25. The #1 song that week was Night Fever by the Bee Gees. They also had the #2 spot with Stayin' Alive. Just The Way Your Are by Bill Joel was at #11. Dust In The Wind by Kansas at #12. Flash Light by Parliament at #24. Hot Legs by Rod Stewart at #29. So if you were listening to Top 40 radio in March of 1978 you'd get a dose of Van Halen, Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Kansas, Parliament and Rod Stewart. Crazy that Van Halen went from that to the Michael Jackson/Prince/Madonna era. Plus all the 80's hair metal bands. They had some longevity.

Always had mixed feelings about Van Halen. Eddie was great axe man and they were obviously a solid band instrumentally but their lyrics and songwriting always just seemed kind of basic and lunkheaded and within classic rock most of their songs have been overplayed to oblivion. Still, they made some good stuff. Favorite songs of theirs were probably Cradle Will Rock, Runnin With the Devil, and Jump.
