Months of listening to muffled mumbling through masks in real life have trained him for listening to the muffled mumbling through masks in Tenet.
This was all planned by Nolan, which is just part of his brilliance.

I got the Blu Ray for Christmas and while I haven't re-watched the movie in full yet, I did a test run of the first half hour out of curiosity for the sound. From my perspective, it sounds perfectly fine to me -- as it did when I saw it in theaters. Even in the action-heavy first ten minutes, I could make out everything clearly. What is this wizardry? Seriously, in theaters I could make out, like, 98% of the dialogue. The only two instances where I had some trouble were the wind-sailing scene and the climax where everybody's wearing those masks -- both of which were clearly intentional choices from Nolan. |

Would have preferred a Dunkirk IMAX re-release, but obviously since the initial release of this was botched, this makes more sense.
