As a side note, there's a chance that PhantomKnight and I broke Google forms. If his same issues recur here, would people have access to send me their list in excel, or should I pursue a course of us ranking our bottom (or top 10-25) until the Google Form is un-fucked? Go do a donny style tournament, ya bum.

Why can't we just post the rankings in regular posts or PMs? I brought up to thebtskink a possibility wherein we use the voting process we’ve been using in my thread to go from the bottom up to form the ranked list. For example, everyone would post their 100-96 choices and we can see if there are enough commonalities to form the list that way until we have everything ranked. But I’m not sure if that would work out smoothly or not.

This pairing brought to you by Westerns:
Director: John Ford Written by Frank S. Nugent Starring: John Wayne, Jeffrey Hunter, Natalie Wood Genre: Western
#96 on 1998's AFI Top 100
In this revered Western, Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home to Texas after the Civil War. When members of his brother's family are killed or abducted by Comanches, he vows to track down his surviving relatives and bring them home. Eventually, Edwards gets word that his niece Debbie (Natalie Wood) is alive, and, along with her adopted brother, Martin Pawley (Jeffrey Hunter), he embarks on a dangerous mission to find her, journeying deep into Comanche territory.
Trivia: Natalie Wood was still a student in high school when this film was being made, and on several occasions both John Wayne and Jeffrey Hunter had to pick her up at school on days when she was required on the set. This caused a good deal of excitement among Wood's female classmates.
Directed by: Sam Peckinpah Written by: Walon Green , Sam Peckinpah Starring: William Holden, Ernest Borgnine Genre: Thriller
#80 on 1998's AFI Top 100
In this gritty Western classic, aging outlaw Pike Bishop (William Holden) prepares to retire after one final robbery. Joined by his gang, which includes Dutch Engstrom (Ernest Borgnine) and brothers Lyle (Warren Oates) and Tector Gorch (Ben Johnson), Bishop discovers the heist is a setup orchestrated in part by his old partner, Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan). As the remaining gang takes refuge in Mexican territory, Thornton trails them, resulting in fierce gunfights with plenty of casualties.
Trivia: The film was shot with the anamorphic process. Sam Peckinpah and his cinematographer, Lucien Ballard, also made use of telephoto lenses, that allowed for objects and people in both the background and foreground to be compressed in perspective. The effect is best seen in the shots where the Bunch makes "the walk" to Mapache's headquarters to free Angel. As they walk forward, a constant flow of people passes between them and the camera; most of the people in the foreground are as sharply focused as the Bunch. The editing of the film is notable in that shots from multiple angles were spliced together in rapid succession, often at different speeds, placing greater emphasis on the chaotic nature of the action and the gunfights.
My Votes:
The Searchers: Keep. You can't have Lawrence of Arabia on the list on not the film that influenced its landscape photography. The Wild Bunch: I'm ambivalent, convince me. I think you can't really disentangle this movies' influence from other movies that came out that year. I'm not really sure it's a crucial movie to have on here.

Keep and keep
The Wild Bunch is one of the most innovative action films of all time in terms of its violence, editing, and use of slo-mo. Its basically the template that John Woo followed. And while it wasn't the first revisionist western it did really break the door down in terms of deglamorizing the genre.

Definitely keep Searchers.
I'm on the fence about Wild Bunch. While I understand its impact, try as I might it's a movie I just can't come to love. But that's not the point of the thread so I vote keep.

This pairing brought to you by courtroom dramas:
Director: Robert Mulligan Written by Horton Foote Based on the novel by Harper Lee Starring: Gregory Peck, Mary Badham Genre: Courtroom Drama
Does not appear on 2012's Sight and Sound Polls #36 on 1998's AFI Top 100
Scout Finch (Mary Badham), 6,and her older brother, Jem (Phillip Alford), live in sleepy Maycomb, Ala., spending much of their time with their friend Dill (John Megna) and spying on their reclusive and mysterious neighbor, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall). When Atticus (Gregory Peck), their widowed father and a respected lawyer, defends a black man named Tom Robinson (Brock Peters) against fabricated rape charges, the trial and tangent events expose the children to evils of racism and stereotyping.
Trivia: Gregory Peck's summation speech, which runs for 6 minutes and 30 seconds, was nailed in a single take.
Directed by: Sidney Lumet Written by Reginald Rose Starring: Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb Genre: Courtroom Drama
Does not appear on 2012 Sight and Sound Polls Does not appear on 1998's AFI Top 100
Following the closing arguments in a murder trial, the 12 members of the jury must deliberate, with a guilty verdict meaning death for the accused, an inner-city teen. As the dozen men try to reach a unanimous decision while sequestered in a room, one juror (Henry Fonda) casts considerable doubt on elements of the case. Personal issues soon rise to the surface, and conflict threatens to derail the delicate process that will decide one boy's fate.
Trivia: At the beginning of the film, the cameras are all positioned above eye level and mounted with wide-angle lenses to give the appearance of greater distance between the subjects. As the film progresses the cameras slip down to eye level. By the end of the film, nearly all of it is shot below eye level, in close-up and with telephoto lenses to increase the encroaching sense of claustrophobia.
My Votes: To Kill a Mockingbird: Keep. The movie is a pretty straightforward retelling of the book, but Gregory Peck's performance here is sublime both in and out of the courtroom. I do like the initial touches to make the Radley place seem like a horror film 12 Angry Men: Keep. The staging here goes a long way to helping it feel less boring that the film would otherwise be in one room the entire time.

Cut To Kill a Mockingbird, which to my eyes is just a well done adaptation of the book, which to me is the real accomplishment.
Keep 12 Angry Men

Upon reflection, cut Mockingbird. I think I was thinking more about the book, which I would say is more important than the movie.
