I introduced the 5 year old to the 1990 movie. She can't turn it off, she absolutely loves it. Is she too young and is it too violent for her age? Probably, but it came out when I was 5 and it was one of my earliest movie-going memories.

Age appropriateness aside though, this movie is still so good. The stunts are awesome, it's charming and funny but also just gritty enough, it has that level of grit that kids movies have long since abandoned. I haven't seen the new one and I don't know how well its being received but I seriously, seriously want to walk into a studio and pitch a direct sequel to the early 90s series. I don't know what Jim Henson Studios is up to these days but bring them back for the puppeteering, bring back as many original voice actors as possible including Corey Feldman and Kevin Clash, cast a new April O'Neil and Casey Jones but give Judith Hoag a small role, maybe as April O'Neil's boss. Make Elisa Koteas the skeptical police chief who learns his lesson by the end of the movie. It doesn't have to be big or flashy or cost $250 million.  Practical effects, practical puppeteering, great stunts.  SnoBorderZero can meet me at Randy's Donuts so we can come up with a pitch.
