No blackout option, though. The spoiler function here works exactly the same as the previous forum. Even without the button, you just use the bbcode tags [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler ].

I don’t know how I feel about this movie. I thought there was a lot that worked and a lot that….didn’t. Ultimately the whole isn’t as great as the sum of its parts but there is enough to take away that I would recommend it to the casual movie-goer.
Liked: -The effects were enormous. -It’s enjoyable watching a science fiction space-travel movie that seemed real. You can tell there was great care in the craft of many areas of the screenplay. -The score I thought was excellent. I enjoyed the variation between ambient sounds to thundering, futuristic sounding scores. -Pretty much everything else people liked on a visual and story level.
Didn’t like: -This movie commits my #1 most egregious movie crime – having a kid who’s really written as an adult. Think Dakota Fanning in War of the Worlds, an almost-movie-ruining performance that I think is my most hated by anyone in anything ever. These are characters that talk like adults, think like adults, talk to adults like other adults, and would never, ever be found in real life. They’re take me out of the movie almost instantly and almost always bring the movie down in a big way. Fortunately the young Murph doesn’t get a whole ton of screentime but she certainly gets enough to get the point across. -Blatant exposition? In a Christopher Nolan movie? Get out of town! Sarcasm aside, the parent teacher conference scene at the beginning is almost unwatchable as it gives us almost the purpose of the entire movie. In a parent teacher conference. -The movie asks us to make some pretty huge leaps in logic as well as understanding the decision making process behind each character. The ‘ending’ makes little sense even though it’s trying its damndest to be 2001. -I don’t know who felt the same way but I found this movie to be extremely predictable. If you’ve seen a handful of sci-fi movies (and I’ve only seen a handful) you know exactly how things are going to play out well before they do. Between unthawing the scientist, ‘who made the wormhole?’ and even ‘who’s trying to communicate with us?’ it’s all pretty obvious if you let the power of deduction take command. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s just…predictable. -On the whole there was a lot of ‘fluff’ in the film. For example the climax with Casey Affleck coming back to the house was unnecessary and was only there to add conflict that didn’t go anywhere. I went in with middling expectation for Interstellar and in some ways they were exceeded and in others they were just met in the middle. The scope of this movie is enormous but ultimately it’s a one-and-done film that I don’t see myself watching again. The Nolan brothers have great vision and gave us another interesting if bumpy movie.

I agree about the predictability, right when Murph says there's a ghost trying to communicate I knew it was Matthew mchougney.
Also right when Mr Mann was revealed i knew he would betray everyone.

I didn't consider Mann's motivation betrayal. Dishonest and selfish yes, but he just wanted to be rescued. He knew his planet was unsuitable, and when Copper decided to leave after the revelation of the unsolved equation, that's when Mann shifted toward aggression. He didn't wake up thinking this. He panicked and "it became them or me." He still wanted to complete plan B.
I, for one, did not see Cooper as the "ghost" until much later, though I speculated it was advanced humans. I decided to let the movie just play itself out and enjoy the ride rather try to figure out the twist.

I dont really care about exposition. It feels like its more something that is supposed to bother us, but I just dont think its that big a deal.

Sometimes exposition is needed. It isn't always something that's belabored ad-nauseum.

And the line tends to be tailored to the individual.

No blackout option, though. The spoiler function here works exactly the same as the previous forum. Even without the button, you just use the bbcode tags [ spoiler ] [ /spoiler ]. Not the same - spoiler tags throw the spoilered words into a blocked off section. Not as clean when you just want to blackout a part of a sentence.

I didn't mean to imply the two were the same. I added spoiler tags, which yes throw the spoiler words into a blocked off section, exactly as it did on the old forum. Unfortunately there is no blackout option.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Captain America 2? X-men?
Uhh... I wouldn't consider those terrible by any in-fact I would put those 3 way above Interstellar.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Captain America 2? X-men? Nope. Guardians was certainly a lot of fun, Captain America 2 was a solid-enough action film and, yeah, Days of Future Past was pretty great, but Interstellar just has more ambition, more depth and is more emotionally resonant. But, hey, different strokes and all that...

Yeah but just because it had ambition doesn't mean the movie completely works.
All of the movies I mentioned worked completely and entertainment value is also much higher

I wouldn't say either Guardians or Captain America 2 worked completely. Both have their faults.

I'd put Interstellar over Guardians for sure and Captain America as well, even though I quite like the latter. Days of Future Past trumps all of them.

This was a fanatic year for movies. The box office just didn't reflect the reviews.
That I give the edge to Interstellar for shear scope.
