Hopefully Godzilla vs. Kong is still in IMAX by then. And replaced by what, Mortal Kombat?

April 16th for my IMAX theater i'll take it.
Not until May for the one that's closer to me.

Doomsday Dracula 1godzillafan PG CooperAnd now apparently ALL Arc Light Cinemas are closing. This is fucking horrible news. Holy shit! www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/arclight-cinemas-and-pacific-theatres-to-closeArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres to Close The two brands operated more than 300 screens in California, including the coveted Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. In a blow for California moviegoers — and those in Los Angeles in particular — the ArcLight Cinemas and Pacific Theatres are closing all of their locations for good after seeing their business decimated by the pandemic. ArcLight's stable includes the prized Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. The Dome, built in 1963, is the crown jewel of the small theater complex constructed in more recent years. ArcLight Hollywood is a bastion for both first-run movies and independent titles and, at one time, was one of the first L.A. cinemas to offer high-end food. It has also been a favorite site place to stage premieres of indie titles, and is beloved by many cinephiles. ArcLight's locations in Hollywood and elsewhere, including Sherman Oaks, are operated by Pacific Theatres. The Pacific side of the aisle includes such popular locations as the Grove in West Hollywood. "This was not the outcome anyone wanted, but despite a huge effort that exhausted all potential options, the company does not have a viable way forward," said a statement issued by Pacific Theatres, which is owned by the Decurion Corporation. No ArcLight or Pacific location has reopened since the pandemic began. On Monday afternoon, word quickly spread across Hollywood that they will remain dark for good. It wasn't immediately clear who the pool of potential buyers might include for the more high-profile locations, should they be up for sale, such as the ArcLight Hollywood complex. Last year, Netflix closed a deal to operate the Egyptian, another landmark Hollywood theater that's not far from the Cinerama Dome. Among the mega chains, Cinemark only has two L.A. locations (one in Baldwin Hills and the other in Playa Vista). "To all the Pacific and ArcLight employees who have devoted their professional lives to making our theaters the very best places in the world to see movies: we are grateful for your service and your dedication to our customers," the statement continued. "It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you." The National Association of Theatre Owners has warned all along that smaller and regional independent chains, such as Pacific and ArcLight, might never recover from the COVID-19 crisis. "To our guests and members of the film industry who have made going to the movies such a magical experience over the years: our deepest thanks," read the statement issued by Pacific Theaters. "It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve you."

This just shouldn't be happening. I seriously hope someone steps up and keeps them from closing because this is a travesty to everything cinema.

The Arclight theaters, especially the one in Hollywood off Sunset, were staples for hardcore film fans and casual moviegoers alike. They frequently screened older films too, one of my first dates with the lady was to see The Godfather there which she had never seen before. It's too bad, and right when we were coming out of the pandemic too, theaters just started opening up here in the last few weeks.

The Alamo Drafthouse has finally begun to announce theater re-openings. The ones here in D/FW are going to be a while yet, unfortunately. The three at the far end of Dallas are going to open in June, while the three that are closer to me in Fort Worth don't open until July.

Went on my first non-Tenet trip to theaters today... saw Spiral. Nothing too much to report about the experience (aside from the fact that Spiral is not very good), masks aren't fun and while I was personally glad the place wasn't very crowded it certainly wasn't a great sign.

I don't think anyone in their right mind is saying "Just got double vaxxed, now I can go see the latest Saw movie."
That being said I hold out hope that it sucks less than Mortal Kombat.

That being said I hold out hope that it sucks less than Mortal Kombat. My Gen-Z co-workers (who are mostly girls) hated it. Apparently they’re fans of the core Saw series — which caught me off guard. I didn’t know PG Cooper’s people were into the torture porn. So your best bet is to watch Demon Slayer.

I'm okay with maybe half the movies they did so far. 5 and the 3D one were nutsack, and the last reboot they did was a total "Who gives a fuck?"
That being said, I'm always here to see how convoluted this series can get. And if this one doesn't make it even more convoluted then it has wasted my time.

Damn. Opening of D/FW Alamo Drafthouse locations have been pushed back to July 23rd. Are they TRYING to drive me mad? If I don't have a Royale with Cheese soon, I don't know what will happen!
I can't remember if I ever got around to posting it, but a while back I discovered that the bankruptcy of Alamo Drafthouse corporate didn't actually affect any of the locations in North Texas. Those are all owned by a franchisee whose investments are apparently diverse enough to allow them to have muddled through The Pandemic. This is also why, unlike some other Alamo locations across the country, all the ones here remain closed, and will now continue to do so until the end of July. I really thought they'd manage to open for Black Widow, but apparently not. Maybe they'll move the opening date forward? One can hope.
